Emma Williams is the mother of Matthew, 17, and founder of epilepsy charity Matthew’s Friends. Today she carried the Olympic torch through Gillingham, and this evening she brought the torch to Oxted so that people could see it and have their photo taken with it, along with Emma and chef Tony Tobin, the charity’s patron.
My son didn’t come with us to see the torch this evening as he had already seen it twice today and is proud to have received two bottles of Coke as he watched. Fizzy drinks are only allowed on special occasions in our family, and although I guess the Olympics is a special occasion, I can’t believe kids are being handed out free Coke in its name. But, as his sister said, ‘at least they weren’t throwing free McDonalds Happy Meals at people’.
