I took this photo in a Naples back street on an amazing guided Vespa tour of the Italian city. My guide, an archaeologist called Emilio, collected me from my hotel and took me around the main sites as well as some less well-known places in the city. Here we are just about to go in to a Lotto shop to buy a ticket for the local lottery. I found the experience fascinating because before we bought our ticket the shop owner (who can just be seen through the window in the photo) consulted a vast and aged book to interpret our dreams and to tell us which numbers to pick. It was a very serious business. We don’t win.
