Top 5 family trips

November 26, 2012 by Gretta Schifano 4 Comments

surfing dog. copyright Gretta SchifanoSince we got back from our half-term trip to Turkey, Bella and I have been thinking about where we’d like to go next year. Here’s a round-up of five new family trips we like the sound of. (I’d love to go on any of them. Bella fancies Sri Lanka).

Mountain Kingdoms www.mountainkingdoms.com is offering a new family adventure tour of Sri Lanka. The trip balances time to relax on an Indian ocean beach with activities such as riding an elephant to look for leopards. Prices start at £1,995 per adult, £1,455 per child for 14 days, including flights.

Oasis Overland www.oasisoverland.co.uk is introducing family adventure tours to Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. On the Egypt tour families visit the main sights with an Egyptologist guide and can also try camel riding and spend an evening with a local Nubian family finding out about everyday Egyptian life. Prices start at £535 per person for eight days, excluding flights.

Explore www.exploreworldwide.co.uk are introducing a new family activity holiday in Sicily. Families can go to the top of Etna, Europe’s highest volcano, go river trekking in the Alcantara Gorge as well as try archery, tree-climbing and learn how to cook pizza and pasta. Prices start at £1,187 per adult and £1,046 per child for eight days including flights.

Closer to home, Nature Trek www.naturetrek.co.uk now offers dolphin watching day cruises off Lyme Bay in Dorset. As well as dolphins, you may spot porpoises or even a Minke whale. Rather than having set dates for these tours, they run when the weather is suitable. If you want to go along, you need to register your interest to be contacted when a tour is on. Tours cost £95 per person.

If that all sounds far too tiring, Mr & Mrs Smith, who specialise in romantic hotels for couples, are launching a new website for families www.smithandfamily.co.uk offering unique hotels where fans of the Mr & Mrs Smith style can take their children along with them. Maybe a night or two at one of their places would be a good idea after any of the above trips.

Where are you planning to go for your next trip?

    Ciao Gretta,
What a great site you have here. And I was happy to learn about the family activity holiday in Sicily. People often ask me what there is for kids to do in Sicily and I go totally blank! jann

Hi Gretta, thanks so much for mentioning our new site. It launched two weeks ago and we are adding new hotels every day.
