If you’re planning a holiday and want to know how much things cost in different parts of the world you can use this NatWest Holiday Spending Calculator to help you find out. Unless you’re on an all-inclusive holiday it’s handy to have an idea of these sorts of costs so that you know how much spending money to allow when you’re away.
The calculator compares the price of a list of different items across 25 different destinations. You choose from the list of 18 items and work out the most and the least expensive places to buy the item. For example, it says that a tube of toothpaste is most expensive in San Fransisco at £3.59 and cheapest in Cape Town at 60p. (My children are so fussy about toothpaste that we always take ours with us and have never bought any while we’re away, but I guess you never know.) You can also click on the 25 destinations shown to see a price list for all of items there.
I think that the choice of places is odd and it’s a shame that many of the most popular family destinations are missing from the list. For example there are three separate cities shown in Italy but none at all in Greece, Portugal or Florida. The calculator is fun to play around with though – Siem Reap looks like the place to go for a beer or to the cinema if you’re on a budget, but I don’t know what films would be showing there!
