If you’re looking to explore some of Crete’s most scenic spots without the hassle of planning every detail, this Imbros Gorge and Libyan Sea tour offers a solid option. From what we’ve gathered, it’s a day packed with hiking, swimming, and authentic local flavors — all at a price that won’t break the bank.
Two things really stand out: the manageable hike through Imbros Gorge and the opportunity to relax with a swim in the Libyan Sea. These are great for those who want a mix of activity and chill time. However, a word of warning — the tour involves a decent amount of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must.
This tour suits travelers who want a taste of Crete’s natural beauty without committing to the more strenuous Samaria Gorge or overly long excursions. It’s also a good pick if you’re traveling with a group or family and prefer a well-organized day with a guide to point out the highlights.
it's quite a ride from Chania but the scenery is wonderful and the coach was cool and very comfy. The gorge walk is self guided and very rocky and sandy so care is needed and good shoes. It's a lovely walk for 4 miles and by the end my knees and ankles were definitely aching. We got lunch at the tavern and it was tasty and good value. The trip to the Libyan Sea village takes 10 minutes, we had a swim in the really warm sea and a coffee then it's back on the bus. it's quite a long journey back, 1hr30 to Chania but again it passed pleasantly.
The trip in itself was ok, but the return journey was a disaster. The driver picked up an unrelated group of 15 people and gave them priority in getting them off in the other part of the city. We wasted over an hour compared to the announced schedule.

The Imbros Gorge Hike
Once at the gorge, you’ll set out on an easy 3-hour walk. The path is known for being less challenging than the famous Samaria Gorge but still offers plenty of wow moments — narrow passages, tall rock walls, and iconic formations like the Mesofarango and Xepitira Arch. The reviews highlight that with good shoes, the hike becomes much more enjoyable, as the terrain is rocky and uneven.
A guide will accompany you, providing insights about the area’s geology and history. Some reviewers mention that the guide shares local WWII facts, like the Allied flags still visible on the beach, adding a layer of historical interest if you’re into that.
Exiting at Komitades and Free Time in Chora Sfakion
The walk concludes at Komitades village, where your bus will pick you up for the next stop — Chora Sfakion. Here, you’ll find some free time to relax at a seaside tavern or cafe. From reviews, it seems like this part of the day is a favorite for many, especially because the town is less crowded and has a laid-back vibe. Expect beautiful views and a chance to soak in the atmosphere.
Swim and Lunch on the South Coast
Afterward, you’ll travel to a picturesque beach along the Libyan Sea. This is the perfect spot to cool off with a swim in the clear waters. The tour includes a traditional Greek lunch, which many travelers say is a highlight. Expect fresh salads and local dishes that give you a real taste of Crete’s cuisine.

The Value of the Tour
