Guide was very good. Kept us all together. No issues at all. We were a little hesitant because we didn’t know company but reviews were good. We agree. Comfortable ride, good knowledge, just the right amount of time in each place. This is 100% recommended by this Tennessean. Friendly folks, easy to locate off ship. All in all well done!
Michael
Gianni was great, did an awesome job of keeping people together and reminding people to be aware of their surroundings. Gave some light history on other communities during the commute to Florence and Pisa.
Heidy
Gianni was amazing tour guide! He was very knowledgeable, caring and personable. He made this experience absolutely the best for my group. The driver was great as well. He drove safely. We were back at perfect time to the ship.

However, one thing to consider is that the day is quite packed, which means you’ll need to be ready for a long, energetic day.

This experience is best suited for travelers who appreciate guided trips with clear structure and want to see both Florence and Pisa without the hassle of organizing multiple tickets or transports. It’s especially good if you’re on a cruise or have limited time but still want a taste of Italy’s art, history, and iconic landmarks.

The Overview: What To Expect

La Spezia: Guided Tour of Florence & Pisa with Bus Transfer - The Overview: What To Expect

Starting at the La Spezia Cruise Terminal, your day begins with a meet-up point clearly marked for a smooth start. Once everyone’s gathered, you’ll hop onto an air-conditioned bus for a journey that lasts around two hours. During this ride, your guide will set the scene, sharing interesting tidbits about the countryside and the history of the cities you’ll visit.

The bus ride is generally comfortable, with plenty of space and cooling climate control, which makes the long journey more bearable. Because of recent changes in Florence’s road system, buses will no longer arrive directly in the city center. Instead, you’ll take a 20-minute tram ride from the bus parking area into Florence’s heart—something to keep in mind if you’re not used to city tram rides.

Exploring Florence

La Spezia: Guided Tour of Florence & Pisa with Bus Transfer - Exploring Florence

Once in Florence, you’ll have about two hours of free time. This is your chance to explore key spots like Piazza della Signoria, the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, and, naturally, see Michelangelo’s David. The guide provides some pointers, but most travelers tend to enjoy wandering at their own pace.

A popular recommendation is to indulge in an Italian ice cream while strolling through these historic streets—it’s one of those simple pleasures that makes Italy so special. Many reviews highlight how the guides’ commentary enhances the experience, with several mentioning how knowledgeable and friendly the guides are, like Gianni who was praised for his light humor and good storytelling.

One of the biggest perks here is that you get to see the city’s highlights without the pressure of an overly structured tour—giving you time to get a feel for Florence’s vibe, take photos, or grab a quick snack.

The Pisa Stop: The Iconic Leaning Tower

La Spezia: Guided Tour of Florence & Pisa with Bus Transfer - The Pisa Stop: The Iconic Leaning Tower

After your Florence visit, it’s back on the bus for about an hour heading to Pisa. Your disembarkation point is close to the Miracle Square (Piazza del Duomo), home to the Baptistery, Cathedral, and Camposanto. Here, you’ll have roughly 30 minutes, which is enough to marvel at these architectural masterpieces and snap a picture in front of the Leaning Tower.

Kim
Our tour guide Jonny did a fantastic job keeping everyone together and despite some who failed to return to meeting points at the designated time, he didn’t leave anyone behind. It was a lot to fit into a day but definitely worth it to see everything we did in the time we had.
Anthony
Gianni, Embre, and driver Newfus were excellent! Awesome communication and they really went beyond their duties! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Lindsay
Johnny was excellent and very informative! We loved our tour and learned so much! Thank you!

Many reviewers mention that the time at Pisa feels a bit rushed—just enough for a quick walk around and some photos. You’ll walk approximately 15 minutes to reach the tower, so be prepared for a little bit of walking. Despite the brief stop, the photographs and memories made here are well worth it.

Your day wraps up with a final bus ride back to La Spezia, around one hour. It’s a good time to relax and reflect on the day’s sights, or chat with fellow travelers about their favorite moments. Given the long hours, you might find yourself tired but satisfied with the whirlwind experience.

Authentic Experiences & Authentic Feedback

From the many reviews, it’s clear this tour hits the mark for most travelers. Guides like Gianni have been praised for their knowledge, friendliness, and ability to keep everyone together. Comments such as “very knowledgeable,” “organized,” and “friendly folks” highlight the overall positive vibe.

However, some reviews note that the day can feel rushed, especially at Pisa, where just 30 minutes is allocated. Participants also mention the bus ride into Florence involves a tram transfer, which can be warm or crowded. Still, for many, these small inconveniences are outweighed by the convenience and the opportunity to see two cities in a single day.

Doug
since we were on a cruise, and we wanted to see both Florence and Pisa, we didn't end up with time to go inside many places (like Il Duomo or the Leaning Tower), but we definitely got to see everything. our guide also let us know about the tombs inside a different church and I got to see the tomb of Galileo, which was amazing.
Tae
The guide was helpful and gave good fun vibes during the tour, thus making it an enjoyable experience!
Whelmi
Managed to see a lot of Tuscany during a long day. Bus ride was quite comfortable, kudos to the driver. Gianni, our guide, did a commendable job of keeping us well informed, providing commentary in English as well as Italian (for a mostly Spanish-speaking audience). Stops at Florence and later Pisa turned out nicely. Enough time to individually explore the two city centres. Gianni managed to keep the flock together despite a rich schedule. Well done!

Transportation & Timing: Why It Matters

The bus transfer is a major selling point—it’s a comfortable, air-conditioned way to cover long distances without fatigue. The roughly 2-hour ride to Florence provides a scenic break from city walking, giving you a glimpse of Tuscany’s rolling hills.

The organized schedule means you won’t have to worry about missing connections or finding your way, which is especially helpful if you’re traveling with limited time or in a cruise port.

The 20-minute tram ride into Florence’s city center is a key logistical detail—something to prepare for, especially if you’re unfamiliar with city transit systems. Once in Florence, you get about two hours, which is enough to see major sights or wander to local cafes.

Free Time & Sightseeing Balance

Most travelers appreciate having some free time in Florence, though a few mention it’s not enough to see everything deeply. If you’re eager to visit specific sites like the Duomo interior or Michelangelo’s David inside the Galleria dell’Accademia, keep in mind that this tour offers just outside views and quick visits.

Petina
What a lovely day! Thank you to Gianni and his team for a fantastic, fun and very informative day.
Manish
Excellent guide. Gianni was knowledgeable and was clear with his instructions. The bus ride was nice. Pick-up was smooth. Clarity of meeting point on GYG is appreciated
Alex
Great day trip exploring Florence and Pisa. Greta was a great guide and very knowledgeable. It is quite a long day with lots of driving, so you do feel as though you have spent more time driving than actually seeing things, but that isn’t the tour’s fault only that Florence is quite far away. As this is quite a long trip i think it would be better if the tour started at 9am rather than 10am, as it was nearly dark by the time we got to Pisa and we got back quite late.

In Pisa, the time is more limited—about 30 minutes—which some find too brief, especially if you want to explore the square or take more photos. Still, it’s enough to appreciate the iconic tower and snap a few pictures with minimal fuss.

Cost & Value

La Spezia: Guided Tour of Florence & Pisa with Bus Transfer - Cost & Value

Final Thoughts: Is This Tour for You?

If you’re someone who loves guided tours that balance sightseeing with free exploration, this trip will suit you well. It’s ideal for cruise travelers, busy day-trippers, or anyone aiming to see the highlights of Florence and Pisa without worrying about logistics.

However, if you prefer to explore at a more relaxed pace or want detailed inside visits to interior sites, this might feel a bit hurried. The brief stops, especially in Pisa, mean you’ll want to prioritize your photo opportunities and key landmarks.

In summary, this tour delivers a reliable, well-organized way to tick off two major Italian cities in one day, with guides and scenic rides that make the long hours more comfortable.
