If you’re dreaming of witnessing the Aurora Borealis and want a well-rounded experience with guides, cozy amenities, and plenty of chances to capture those moments on camera, this Tromsø tour could be just what you’re looking for. We’ve reviewed this experience based on numerous glowing reviews and detailed descriptions, so you get a clear picture of what’s on offer.

What draws us in? First, the expert guides who know the land and weather inside out—they go the extra mile to chase clear skies and rare light shows. Second, the hot meal, local snacks, and fire-side atmosphere make the experience feel both adventurous and comforting, even in the Arctic cold.

Of course, no experience is perfect. One thing to be mindful of is that Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, so even with the best planning, visibility can vary. Sometimes, the lights only appear on camera or not at all, which can be a bit disappointing for those expecting guaranteed sightings.

The tour was excellent from start to finish! We were supplied with warmsuits and boots at the meet up location. Margo, our guide, was very attentive to the aurora conditions and where the best viewing was. She also explained how they base their decisions on where to go. She was very attentive to us as her tour group, and answered all our questions. We were fortunate to have clear skies and lots of solar activity, so we did not have to travel far to be absolutely gobsmacked at how beautiful the lights were! We enjoyed a bonfire with hot dogs, hot chocolate, and marshmallows to roast. After, we were all dropped off at our respective hotels. A magical evening for sure! I recommend this tour 10/…

The tour was amazing! Even though aurora activity was quite low the day we booked the tour the overall experience was great. We went to a beautiful place by the sea, lit a bone fire, drank some hot chocolate, and ate some s’mores and hot dogs. Margot, our tour guide, went above and beyond getting everything set up, she even installed a heated portable bathroom for us. The pictures and time lapses she took with her camera were fantastic (we took other tours and this was the only one that sent us videos). Thank you for the experience, would definitely recommend this tour!

This tour is well-suited for travelers who want a blend of adventure, comfort, and photography. If you’re someone who appreciates a small, personalized group and no-fuss arrangements, this experience could be a highlight of your trip to Tromsø.

How This Tour Stands Out

Tromsø: Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Hot Meal & Drinks - How This Tour Stands Out

This Northern Lights tour is designed around maximizing your chances of seeing the Aurora while keeping the experience comfortable and memorable. The use of a smart Aurora tracking system — powered by over 50 live cameras — is a game-changer.

It allows guides to make informed decisions about where to go, rather than relying solely on weather forecasts. Meaning, fewer wasted nights and more time spent in prime spots with clear skies.

Another perk is the live sky camera monitor inside the vehicle, where you can watch the Aurora appear in real-time even before stepping outside. It’s a clever touch that amps up the anticipation and helps you understand the science behind the lights.

The tour was very well organized and highly recommended. The guide, Margaux, was very throughly. She even told us stories around the world on northern lights so we didn't get bored while aurora started to appear. Can't appreciate it enough!
Alejandra
Everything was great! Margeux (I hope I am writing it right) our guide explained us a lot from the very beginning, how auroras appear, short stories about them and helped us set our cameras for pictures. We loved the tour and the details they put into it, like little snacks, a dessert, hot coffee if you do not like chocolate and the blankets.

Very good, the guide is very patient and professional for light tour,we had a great experience!!five stars!!!

What really sets this experience apart is the heated tent with a private toilet. This isn’t just a quirky extra; it’s an essential comfort in the Arctic cold, especially when waits can stretch for hours. The campfire with hot food and drinks is more than just a snack—it’s a cozy gathering spot that turns an outdoor adventure into a genuinely enjoyable evening.

Tromsø: Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Hot Meal & Drinks - The Itinerary & What You Can Expect

The tour begins at Skolegata 24 (Ami Hotel) in Tromsø at 5:45 pm. After a brief introduction from your guide, you’ll hop into a luxury Mercedes-Benz minibus—a big plus for comfort and style. The drive into the wilderness is where the magic starts, as the guides continuously monitor the sky and weather, often adjusting the plan to optimize your chances of catching the lights.

The first part of the evening involves driving to the best spots, which sometimes include nearby Finland, thanks to the guides’ expertise and the Aurora tracking technology. It’s worth noting that smaller groups (max 15 guests) mean more flexibility and personalized attention.

Reviews repeatedly mention how well the guides adapt to shifting conditions, often moving locations if the sky clouded over in one area.

Great tour! David, our guide, was so enthusiastic and conscious of us having an amazing time. He made so much effort to take great photographs, make us comfortable and of course have the best chance of seeing an amazing aurora. Definitely recommend !

You couldn’t it was an amazing experience! A must for everyone to see the magic of the Northern Lights in Tromso
Valérie
Where to begin! I absolutely loved the tour! It was a dream come true to experience The Nothern Lights in Tromsø and the excitement of our guide David was contagious. He has so much knowledge and was super helpfull with the whole tour. It was so interesting to hear more about the Northern Lights and I loved that he took all the time for our questions and took so many beautiful pictures of us and the Northern Lights. When I look back at puctured, I just get goosebumps. Also the bonfire with (vegan) hotdogs, hot choco and marshmallows was truly so magical. It was my first night in Tromsø and to be this lucky to see the lights and dancing, it was more then I could have ever imagined it to be….

About two hours into the tour, you’ll reach your viewpoint with a campfire setup. Here, you’ll find hot food, local snacks, and drinks—probably hot chocolate, marshmallows, and hot dogs—served in a warm, Arctic atmosphere. The campfire creates a cozy scene against the vast, starry sky, making the wait for the Aurora more of a social and relaxing experience.

The highlight is, of course, the Northern Lights dance overhead. Many reviews mention how spectacular and varied the displays can be—colors swirling, dancing, sometimes with pinkish hues or multiple shades. Guides like Margaux and David are often praised for their photography skills, taking professional-quality photos of guests against the Aurora, often within an hour of the end of the tour.

After the show, you’ll be driven back to Tromsø, often stopping for a moment to admire the night sky or take additional photos through the sky camera system. Many guests find the entire experience more personal than large bus tours, thanks to the small group size and attentive guides.

Our tour was amazing- the best northern lights tour out there. The guide David was brilliant and knowledgeable and involved in the tour was so many snacks, food, and drinks, not to mention the heated toilet! The driver was exceptional also. We received our free (unlimited) portraits less than an hour after we were dropped back at hotel. Also we were very impressed that the company moved our date free of charge. We arrived on Wednesday night to tour and the weather was awful for northern lights spotting. The tour guide offered to change us to the next day free of charge! We were so thankful as we had the best night the next night! Thank you so much

My activity was on 24 November 2025. Mr. David was Our driver and guide and was very cordial and helpful. Before journey he enquired whether we would be comfortable in a 7 seater van. Since we were comfortable with fewer crowds we agreed to it and no remorse because we enjoyed the trip and he took us privately to very remote places near Finland border where buses cannot approach. Thus we could enjoy the Northern lights privately and take photographs without any disturbances from other crowd. That was an advantage of choosing the 7 seater van and having a guide like Mr David. He is really an expert in capturing the magnificent northern lights. He took wonderful photos of us with northern ligh…

What a wonderful tour company and guide!! Our guide Margauz was so professional and took care of us so well. She knew exactly where to set up the bonfire and wait for the spectacle to begin. We got the best show above us over the fire and they were strong and dancing too. Guide helped us to take so many pictures and timelapse videos and the best part, they were in your mailbox just before you reach back to Tromso. I will absolutely recommend this tour for everyone who wants to experience this magical spectacle.

For groups of 7 or fewer, the tour might use a 7-seater van, which some reviews mention as a bit cramped, but still cozy and personal. The heated toilet tent is a thoughtful addition that keeps guests comfortable during long waits.

The tour’s flexibility—including free cancellations up to 24 hours before and the option to reschedule at no extra cost if the weather isn’t cooperating—is a real advantage. It means you’re not locked into a night that might be cloudy or less ideal.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on our Northern Lights excursion! We were incredibly lucky with the conditions and got to see multiple displays – even the magical dancing auroras. It was truly unforgettable. The whole experience was so well organised. The mini bus was comfortable, Gregor (our driver) was brilliant, and the heated tent toilet was a surprisingly amazing addition on such a cold night! The team had a cosy camp set up with a fire, chairs and unlimited hot drinks. We enjoyed marshmallows, hot dogs, doughnuts, and even extra snacks on the bus. We loved having access to snow suits, boots, and tripods too – it made everything so much easier and more enjoyable. Margaux, our gu…
