We’ve looked into what travelers are saying and what you can expect, so you can decide if this desert adventure is right for you.
What really makes this tour stand out is how well-organized it appears—with experienced guides, a variety of unique stops, and genuinely stunning scenery. Two things we love are the chance to see the moon-like White Desert and the opportunity to sleep out in the open, under a blanket of stars.
Unfortunately, this trip was a waste of money and very poorly organized. I paid for a 3 days / 2 nights tour to the Black and White Desert, but the itinerary did not match what was sold. On the first day, we arrived in Bahariya Oasis, and only around 2–3 pm did we actually start visiting both desert. After spending the night in the White Desert, we returned early the next morning back to the hotel. Since I had booked 3 days and 2 nights, I expected a clear plan for the second day. However, there was no itinerary at all. The hotel had no plan for me and no activities scheduled. Instead, they placed me with an Egyptian family who had booked their own private tour. I should not have been incl…

The desert camping was a great experience. The food cooked over the campfire was delicious. The desert sunset and sunrise over the horizon are a must-see.
Plus, the tour includes a good mix of sightseeing, adventure, and cultural insights that make it feel like more than just a quick trip.
However, a potential consideration is the long hours of driving and activity-packed schedule, which might be tiring for some travelers, especially those looking for a more relaxed pace. Also, some reviews mention minor logistical hiccups, like the return transfer, but overall, the experience seems to deliver on its promises.
This tour works best for those who love geological marvels, outdoor adventures, and authentic desert camping. If you’re after a comprehensive, well-reviewed desert experience that combines natural beauty with cultural charm, this could be a great fit.

Day 1: Discovering Bahariya Oasis
We start early, with pickup from Cairo, heading into the heart of Bahariya Oasis. After a traditional lunch, the tour kicks off with visits to hot and cold springs—over 500 springs in the area make this a fascinating start. These springs aren’t just scenic; they also offer a glimpse into local life, as residents use them for water.
Next, you’ll climb to English Mountain for sunset views. It’s the highest point in the oasis, and the panoramic scene is worth the climb. One reviewer loved this spot, calling it “Healing of the soul” because of the tranquil mountain views.
You’ll also explore Bahariya Cemetery, a spot where history and local culture intertwine, and take in the salt lake area, which combines mountain views with lush palm gardens—a mix that’s quite surreal.
A very well-organized tour filled with wonderful sights. On the first day, we explored the Black and White Desert, and on the second we visited the attractions around the Bahariya Oasis. The food throughout the trip was outstanding, not only delicious but served in generous portions. Sleeping in the desert on the first night was an unforgettable experience, followed by a stay in a beautiful, clean, and well-kept hotel on the second night. It’s definitely worth choosing the three-day, two-night option instead of the shorter tours. After the busy program of the first day, the second day offers the perfect chance to rest a little and enjoy a more relaxed itinerary. I can only recommend it!
This is a wonderful tour to see the stuff you don't see on the package tours. Adventure! Riding through the desert in 4WD vehicles, dodging ancient windswept sandstone sculpted by nature – it's like being in a video game! The camping is very basic – no toilets in the white desert (so ladies be prepared for that). The Ahmed Safari lodge is beautiful, comfortable and clean. Meals were generous. Visits to the English House and around the oasis were really interesting. I would thoroughly recommend this tour!
My partner and I did the 2 night, 3 day tour, where you spend one night sleeping under the stars in the desert and the second in the Ahmed Safari Hotel. We had Hazam as our guide, who was absolutely great. He’s friendly, a great conversationalist, a good driver and has very deep knowledge of the desert, from the history and geology, to the local towns and cities, to the best off-roading spots and sunrise camping areas. By the end of the trip, our 5-person group (4 total visitors plus Hazam) felt like we’d known each other for years. Thank you Hazam for an unforgettable experience.
An optional stop includes a visit to the Old Bawiti, where some of the old-style buildings and small streets give you a sense of the oasis’ past. You’ll also visit the Pyramid Mountain, famous not only for its geological interest but also as the site where parts of the first giant dinosaur were discovered. This adds a fun, educational twist to your day.
Day 2: Desert Wonders and Moonlike Landscapes
The second day is all about diversity. After breakfast, the adventure continues with a trip to the Black Desert, known for its volcano-like mounds. The terrain here is a stark contrast to the white sands—more rugged and wild. Though the tickets aren’t included, this spot is highly praised for its otherworldly landscape.
Then, you’ll visit Crystal Mountain, a ridge filled with sparkling mineral formations. It’s a free stop that’s particularly photogenic, and many reviewers mention how special it feels to see nature’s crystalline artistry.
The highlight of the day is the White Desert National Park. As you arrive before sunset, the landscape transforms into what many describe as “like being on another planet,” with chalk-white formations shaped by nature over millions of years.
The landscape is both eerie and beautiful, and camping here is a major highlight, offering a chance to sleep under the open sky and enjoy the silence of the desert.
You’ll also experience sand dune surfing at Aqabat ar Ramlyah—a fun activity that adds a dash of adrenaline to the trip. The dunes are immense, and surfing down them is as fun as it sounds, offering incredible views and a sense of adventure.
Day 3: Return and Relaxation
On the final day, after breakfast, the group begins the journey back to Bahariya Oasis. A stop at warm springs allows you to unwind and enjoy a quick swim after days of desert exploration. The return trip is a chance to reflect on the adventure and take in the familiar sights of the oasis.
What the Reviews Say

The majority of travelers—96% recommended the tour and rated it a perfect 5/5. Many highlight the guides’ friendliness and knowledge, with one saying, “Hazam was absolutely great. He was friendly and a great conversationalist.” Others love the landscapes, calling the White Desert “spectacular” and describing sleeping under the stars as “an incredible experience.”
A common praise is the value for money. For the price, travelers feel they’re getting a well-rounded experience—rides in 4WD, visits to geological sites, and unforgettable camping.
Of course, not everyone loved every aspect. Some found the return transfer a bit disorganized, and a few mentioned that the second day’s activities felt a bit slow or less engaging compared to the first. There are also comments about basic accommodations in the oasis, but most agree that the experience outweighs this minor drawback.
