5.0(1,905 reviews)From $160.90 per person

Traveling to Mexico City and craving a mix of adventure, culture, and unique experiences? This tour offers exactly that—combining a hot air balloon flight over Teotihuacan, a scenic breakfast in a natural cave, and ample time to explore the iconic pyramids. It’s a popular choice, boasting a solid 5.0 rating from over 1,300 reviews, which tells you many travelers find it worth their while.

What makes this experience standout? First, the early morning balloon ride really delivers on those sweeping, panoramic views of the pyramids—something you won’t quite get from the ground. Second, the breakfast in a cave adds a touch of magic and history to the day.

But like any tour, it’s not without a few considerations—namely, the weather dependency for the balloon and the potential for a rushed feeling during the visit.

The tour guide was very patient. The scenery is worth seeing. You can witness the sunrise in the hot air balloons

It was beautiful and everyone was very accommodating! Lovely experience! The views from up in the ballon were breathtaking!

The balloon ride (with Globo Tetris) and the breakfast at La Cueva (for chilequilas) was fantastic – our guide for the morning Barbara was lovely and shared some local knowledge. The overall tour was probably a little long for us (especially after getting up at 4am) as after breakfast it includes an artesian experience at a touristy store (30 mins), and then an hour and a half at Teotihuacan on foot – so we didn’t get back to Mexico City until 1-2pm after leaving at 4:30am (a little longer than expected). It would be good to have the option of just the balloon ride and breakfast, as you see Teotihuacan from the balloon. Cheers !

This tour is best suited for those who want a combination of adventure and cultural exploration without sacrificing comfort. If you’re looking for a memorable day that mixes stunning scenery, delicious food, and the chance to learn a bit about one of Mexico’s most famous archaeological sites, this could be a great fit.

GREAT EXPERIENCE!! Awesome hotel pickup, the ballon ride was out of this world!!! Definitely make sure to bring a warm jacket! The views were out of this world!! The Cave Breakfast was also an amazing experience!! The timing was also great, we were picked up at 4:30 am and were dropped off at our hotel around 1. So we still had the rest of our day to explore! Great Experiance would definitely recommend!!

Overall the concept of the excursion is great and includes a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, the execution seemed pretty inconsistent. I booked 2 pairs of tours for 4 people total (friends wanted to join late). My friends had a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, me and my wife had only an ok experience at best. We were told we were not able to go on the hot air balloons because of wind.. I understand the safety concern, but our friends and it seems like many of the other launch sites launched balloons and were able to go on the experience (at the same time as we were grounded). This was disappointing and didn't seem to make much sense. Additionally, I heard our friends were off…

I had such a great time on the hot air balloon and breakfast in a cave. Everything was really well organized and everyone was super nice and patient, which made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. Mike was our guide and he was great! He was very friendly and helpful. Luis also took amazing photos for us to buy and they turned out so good. I really loved this experience and would definitely recommend it.

The Hot Air Balloon Experience

Balloon flight + pick up in CDMX + Breakfast in Cave + Teotihuacan - The Hot Air Balloon Experience

This is the core of the tour. The balloon takes off early in the morning, around dawn, when the light is soft and the air is still. Expect about 45 minutes of flying, giving you ample time to see the pyramids from above and appreciate the vastness of the site.

Reviewers describe the flight as “smooth and safe,” with one noting it as “a lifetime memory.” The pilots are experienced, and the company emphasizes safety — many reviews mention feeling secure throughout the ascent and descent, even for those who are a bit nervous about heights.

The large balloon, which can carry up to 32 people, offers a spectacular vantage point. You’ll see the pyramids of the Sun and Moon from above, with some reviewers mentioning the thrill of floating right over these ancient structures.

However, keep in mind that weather conditions influence whether you’ll get a direct overhead view of the pyramids; some reviews note flying at a distance or not over the pyramids, depending on the day.

Loved the archeological site. Balloon ride is great if you’ve never done one (l hadn’t). Enjoyed the fire pit and coffee at the start. Great guide (though didn’t guide us through the archeological site which was totally fine by us – just something to know). Would skip the cave breakfast and tequila tasting next time. Our guide was great but nobody tipped her even though she deserved it. This is likely due to there being tip jars and signs absolutely everywhere (in the Van, in the balloon, in the restaurant where a server told us tip was not included); also due to it being really really difficult to get small money in CDMX where all of us where coming from – l had to pay with a card to…

The all inclusive experience is seamless! Driver picked us up at our hotel on time at 4:30am. The balloon flight was incredible! Balloons weren’t too crowded and pilot rotates the ballon so everyone gets a 360 view. Champagne toast at the end was a nice touch. Our pilot and our guide were so, so friendly!! Breakfast in the cave is great and we really appreciated the extra time to explore the pyramids. It was everything we could have wanted!!
Nairika C
It was an exciting day, especially the hot air balloon experience. The day was managed well though we wish we had more time at the pyramids given the distances we had to walk and enjoy all the offerings including the museum. It felt rushed. We also wished we had a guide at the pyramids to help us understand the historical relevance. While the pyramids were exceptional, we missed learning about them and the people who built them. A guide was necessary.

Post-Flight Toast and Breakfast in the Cave

Balloon flight + pick up in CDMX + Breakfast in Cave + Teotihuacan - Post-Flight Toast and Breakfast in the Cave

After safely landing, you’ll enjoy a traditional toast with your pilot, a charming tradition that many find a highlight. Then, it’s time for breakfast — but not just any meal. You’ll head to “La Cueva,” a restaurant set inside a natural cave, which adds a mystical vibe to your morning.

While reviews vary, many mention the breakfast as “delicious” and unique, with some noting that the food is “okay,” but the experience more than makes up for it. One reviewer clarified that the cave in question isn’t La Gruta but still found the setting charming and memorable.

A few travelers have expressed that the service during breakfast can feel a little rushed, and some mention that the food might not be gourmet, but overall, the scenery and atmosphere make this stop extra special.

Exploring the Archaeological Site

After breakfast, you’ll head to the Teotihuacan archaeological zone. You’re given roughly 1.5 hours of free time to explore at your pace, which many find sufficient to see the main pyramids and walk around. The entrance fee isn’t included in the tour price, so be prepared to pay around $5 USD if you want to go inside.

A wonderful experience! The staff was incredible and dynamic, and they delivered on their promises. The breakfast was delicious and the place was beautiful. The only suggestion I would make is to send the information a little earlier the day before the activity. They sent me the instructions at 8 pm, which left me a bit confused. But during the activity itself, everything was perfect!

I had the time of my life. Super tailored all inclusive experience. By the time the tour wraps at noon, you’ve had a world of experiences. Highly recommend!
Arumi E
The driver was punctual, there wasn't traffic, the organization was great, the balloon flight was perfect and gorgeous, we flight just over the pyramids, good breakfast and shops, really good staff, Sara was our guide so kind and nice, the service is high quality. Just one question, how can I get my pictures?

Many reviews mention how impressive the pyramids are, and some appreciate the flexibility to pick their own route. A reviewer noted, “You get enough time to enjoy the site, but if you want more, another tour might be better.” For those who want a more in-depth experience or guided commentary, it’s worth considering a dedicated archaeological tour.

Post-exploration, the group visits Tlalocan Artesanías y Experiencias, a local cooperative where you can enjoy craft workshops and sample some traditional drinks. This stop acts as a cultural warm-up and a way to support local artisans.

Some travelers enjoy this extra touch, describing the workshops as “interesting,” while others see it as a brief diversion before heading back to Mexico City. It’s included in the itinerary, which adds value, especially for those curious about local crafts.

I had originally been super picky with where I booked & I ended with them, and thank god!! They’re fantastic! I’m type A and they are too!! Great communication. Very timely in all capacities. Super safe. Amazing photographer! Loved the cave! The mezcal tasting was great. The pyramids were so cool! My pictures were coordinated well. All payments and transitions between activities were well coordinated. Like this was IDEAL!!! def worth the price!!

We really enjoyed the balloon experience as this was a first for both of us. Back to earth in a field, which was ok. Worthwhile the early rise. Breakfast in the cave was ok. Visit to the pyramids was ok. If I'm honest the experience was padded out a bit with visits to gift areas etc., which i get but took too long. Be prepared for a long trip – approx. 8 hrs in length. from start to finish.
