The Portland beer club is a fantastic meet up spot where we met Christopher- he is such a gem that we decided to go back after the boat ride for a round of beer and cider. Denny and the captain were super warm and knowledgeable about the history. Highly reccomend this company and the tour!

The Captain was very friendly and took us on a smooth and scenic ride. The tour guide wasn't quite as friendly, but was very knowledgeable. It was difficult to hear him at times. He would benefit from a mic. The lighthouses were wonderful and the history was fascinating. They gave a small pour of beer on site while you wait and a can onboard. They had beer, wine, seltzers and soda on board. It was was well worth the price and I would definitely recommend them.

A nice son set boat ride. Both captain and crew were fantastic. Loved the location, the sites and the history. We were also able to see seals, which was a treat. Highly recommend.

What we really like about this cruise is how intimate and personal it feels. With just a small group, you get plenty of space to breathe, ask questions, and really take in the scenery. Plus, the guides and friendly crew seem genuinely passionate about sharing Portland’s maritime charm.

One thing to consider is the lack of onboard restrooms—so if that’s a concern for you, plan accordingly before you board. Still, if you’re after a peaceful, scenic hour-and-a-half on the water with good company and local drinks, this cruise fits the bill. It’s especially well-suited for those who enjoy a laid-back vibe, beautiful views, and a touch of local history.

Who should consider this experience? If you love scenic water views, lighthouse photography, and a relaxed atmosphere, this tour is a solid choice. It’s also good for those who appreciate guides and small groups, making the experience feel more personal. It’s not a party cruise, but rather a gentle, scenic adventure great for unwinding at sunset.

Fabulous evening on the water! Seeing the lighthouses from the bay and, then, watching them as the sunlight faded – spectacular. Our Captain took us on a wonderful route and our guide provided SO much information! The addition of a cold beverage to sip on was just the cherry on top!

What a lot of fun. The information about Portland was great and all my questions were answered about the area. My original reservation was rained out but the captain rescheduled anyone interested for the following evening.

Cruising Casco Bay and Its Highlights

Once on board, the boat glides into Portland Harbor, with the first stops being Fort Gorges and Portland Head Light. Fort Gorges, built between 1858 and 1864, is a fascinating relic—though no battles were fought there, it offers a glimpse into the area's military past and its strategic importance.

Many reviews mention how much more accessible the sights become from the water, saving time and energy compared to land-based visits.

Portland Head Light is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, and for good reason. Sitting on a rocky promontory, the lighthouse offers striking views especially as the sun begins to dip. The guide often shares tidbits about the history and architecture, making the experience richer.

Island Views and Seal Sightings

The tour also takes you past Peaks Island, a serene spot known for its history and relaxed living. Travelers often comment on the peaceful beauty of the island and how it adds to the overall sense of escape. On top of that, wildlife sightings, such as seals swimming or perched on rocks, are a delightful bonus, adding an element of nature that’s easy to miss from land.

Sunset Over the Bay

As the sun starts to set, the entire scene transforms. The bay glows with warm hues—reds, oranges, and purples—creating a picture-perfect backdrop. Many reviews mention how stunning the sunset views are, describing them as “spectacular” and “gorgeous.” It’s a peaceful, almost meditative time to enjoy a locally crafted beer or a non-alcoholic beverage, included with your ticket.

The Return and Lighting Up of Portland

Once the sun dips below the horizon, the boat turns back towards Portland, where the city begins to light up. The contrast of the glowing city skyline against the darkening sky offers a different kind of beauty—urban lights mingling with the natural scenery. The gentle cruise back is smooth and relaxed, giving everyone time to reflect on the experience.

Many testimonials highlight the guides and friendly crew as a definite high point. One reviewer notes, “The guide and the boat captain were wonderful,” emphasizing how much they appreciated the personal touch. Another mentions how much they learned, describing the guides as "very knowledgeable."

The scenic views are consistently praised, especially the lighthouse sightings and wildlife encounters. Gabriella G. calls it “IN-credible,” highlighting the seals and lighthouse views that made her trip unforgettable. Several reviews mention how the water views are much more accessible from the boat than from land, making it a worthwhile outing.

People also appreciate the small-group setting, which fosters a sense of camaraderie and allows for questions and conversations with the guides. It's clear that this small, intimate tour feels more like a friendly outing than a crowded commercial activity.

The Drinks and Atmosphere

The inclusion of a local craft beer or non-alcoholic drink adds a fun, relaxed element. Reviewers mention how the beverages and the laid-back pace made the experience even more enjoyable. One person said, “Loving the added option of a drink,” noting how the small detail elevated the cruise.

The Downsides

The main drawback—mentioned by a few—is the lack of onboard restrooms. While this isn’t uncommon for small boat tours, it’s worth noting if you’re sensitive to needing facilities. Also, since the tour is weather-dependent, poor weather could lead to cancellations or rescheduling, though the provider’s flexible policy helps mitigate this concern.

Is It Worth the Price?

At $69 per person, this cruise offers a balanced value. You’re paying for a well-guided, scenic experience with plenty of opportunities for great photos and wildlife sightings. The small group size means more personalized attention, which many travelers value. When you consider the included drink, the relaxed atmosphere, and the stunning views, it feels like a fair price for such a memorable outing.
