Vancouver’s Snorkel, Kayak, and Seal Adventure: A Detailed Look
If you’re dreaming of exploring Vancouver’s stunning waters and getting up close with wildlife, the Snorkel, Kayak, and Seal Adventure by Sea Dragon Charters might be just what you’re after. We’ve taken a good look at this tour based on countless reviews and the detailed info provided, and here’s what you need to know before booking.
What we love about this experience are the friendly, guides who make sure everyone feels safe and excited, and the opportunity to see seals in their natural environment—a true highlight for wildlife enthusiasts.
This was the most incredible experience! The guides were so nice and very knowledgeable. Also Kevin was a great sea captain. The seals were adorable and very playful! One jumped up in my husband’s kayak and another nosed and softly bit at my kayak paddle playing with it. The snorkeling was also super fun and it wasn’t too cold since we had the wetsuits. Plus they provided hot chocolate and soup once we got back on the boat. Overall the experience of a lifetime and would recommend this tour a million times over!
This was one of the most enjoyable holiday experiences we have ever had. We Ubered there from downtown Vancouver, and bused back (super easy). From our first glimpses of Horshoe Bay we were excited, it's gorgeous! The team taking the tour were super friendly and helpful, and the experience itself was one we will remember for a lifetime. The scenery is absolutely stunning, the seals are adorable, and we even saw a humpback whale! If you love the water, and animals, do this tour!
Amazing experience! We went out on the boat on a sunny day. Stopped at two different seal colonies. The guides were very respectful and showed us how to behave in the water. Not too close to the seals with a good distance and they might come to us by curiosity. Some were curious and played with our fins whilst some of them just swam in the water. It was amazing to see them in their natural habitat. Snacks were provided as well and the guides answered all the questions we had. It really was an amazing experience
One potential caveat is that this tour requires a moderate level of physical activity, so it’s not ideal if you’re not comfortable swimming or being active. Still, with options like a sightseeing-only boat ride, it’s flexible enough to suit different comfort levels.
This tour feels perfect if you’re into wildlife, outdoor fun, and scenic boat trips, especially if you’re traveling with a sense of adventure.

Starting Point and Logistics
The adventure kicks off at the Horseshoe Bay expedition center, a charming spot in West Vancouver. From there, you hop aboard a well-equipped boat, ready for a half-day of marine fun. The tour lasts about five hours, which is a generous amount of time to enjoy all the activities and scenery without feeling rushed.
One thing to note is that transportation to Horseshoe Bay is not included, so you’ll want to plan your arrival, either by car or public transit. Parking fees in Horseshoe Bay are on you, but the convenience of starting from this scenic setting makes up for that.
The Journey to Pam Rocks
Once on board, the boat heads north toward Howe Sound’s Pam Rocks, home to a lively seal colony. The journey itself offers gorgeous views of Vancouver’s coastline, with mountain vistas and sparkling water. This stretch is as much about soaking in the scenery as it is about the wildlife.
Wildlife Encounters with Harbor Seals
The main event is at Pam Rocks, where seals spend their days sunbathing and swimming. According to reviews, the seals tend to be quite relaxed and curious, sometimes swimming close or popping their heads up near kayaks and snorkelers.
So much fun swimming with seals is great for the soul and the company was lovely. Wildlife is unpredictable but we had an amazing experience and having a hot chocolate after each swim was great. Highly recommend
Great experience and amazing hosts! Would definitely recommend to anyone! Make sure to get there at least 30 minutes before the said time.
It was very fun, we got to see a lot of seals! The suits made it possible to enjoy the water. The staff was kind and helpful.
One reviewer fondly recalls, “The seals were a little shy the day we went, and I was also a tiny bit scared to get too close to them, but on the second part…” This honesty highlights that the seals can be a bit reserved but generally approachable for those respecting their space.
Snorkeling with Seals
Snorkeling gear and wetsuits are provided, making it accessible even for those without experience. The wetsuits help make the water more comfortable and extend your time in the water, especially on cooler days. Under the guidance of friendly professionals, you'll float near these adorable creatures, often feeling like part of their world.
Reviewers mentioned that seals are "sunbathing on the rocks, swimming underneath, or bobbing at the surface." The chance to observe them up close is what makes this tour unique and exciting. However, some travelers noted that the seals can be shy initially, so patience and respect are key.
Kayaking Around Howe Sound
Following the snorkel, many guests take to the kayaks, paddling gently around the rocks and bay. The kayaks are stable and easy to handle, even for beginners, and the guides are attentive, offering tips and assistance. During this time, seals might swim underneath or bob nearby, adding a playful element to the adventure.
If kayaking isn’t your thing, no worries—the sightseeing-only option means you can stay comfortably on the boat, admiring the landscape and wildlife from a safe distance.
Food, Snacks, and Relaxation
The tour really shines in the hospitality department. Light snacks, hot soup, and beverages like hot chocolate and cold drinks are included, served while cruising back to Horseshoe Bay. These little touches turn the trip into a relaxing experience, giving you time to chat, enjoy the views, and reflect on the wildlife encounters.
Guests frequently mention the quality of the refreshments: “They made soup and hot chocolate and gave out chips and Ricola,” one reviewer shared, emphasizing how well the crew takes care of everyone’s comfort.
Scenic Return and Final Remarks
The boat’s return ride offers more spectacular views—mountains, islands, and the expansive Howe Sound. Many reviewers, like Kristy_W, mention how the guides and crew make the trip fun and informative, often feeling like traveling with friends.
