If you’re eyeing a trip to Switzerland and want to see some of its most iconic sights without the hassle of planning every detail, a guided day trip like this one from Geneva might catch your eye. This tour promises a blend of mountain grandeur and lakeside glamour, taking you from the city’s doorstep into the heart of the Swiss Alps and along the shores of Lake Geneva.

While it’s not perfect — some may find the timing a bit tight or the cost a bit steep — it offers a solid overview of what makes Switzerland special.

What we really like about this experience is how it combines spectacular mountain views with the chance to walk on a suspension bridge connecting two peaks — a once-in-a-lifetime photo op. Plus, the opportunity to relax afterward in charming Montreux, with its elegant lakeside atmosphere and celebrity history, rounds out the day nicely.

Kris was a wonderful tour guide and driver. He answered all of our questions and helped make sure everyone on the tour was taken care of.

I loved it. The experience was better than i expected to be honest. And the guide and the driver (Babbis and Julius), were both friendly and professional. Beware it can be super windy on the walk.

I was originally booked for the Glacier 3000 tour but the cable car went faulty and had to cancel. Keytours offered me alternatives or a full refund and I opted to go to Zermat (hoping to see the Maternhorn and visit the glacier). The tour guide Tom was very helpful and a great lad offering insights and tips on how to make the most out of the visit. Unfortunately however due to bad weather we only (barely) made it to the restaurant at the top and all activities were closed. We also had to make a rush of it as we were instructed to leave soon, again due to bad weather. The village Tash was nice and pretty but with the highlight of the event mostly unavailable brings down the rating.

One thing to consider, however, is that the tour can feel a little rushed, especially at the glacier and Montreux stops. If you’re the type who prefers a more leisurely pace or detailed exploration, this might not be your best fit.

This tour is best suited for travelers who want a comprehensive day out of Geneva with diverse experiences — stunning vistas, glacier activities, and a taste of Swiss culture. It’s a good pick for those who enjoy guided trips that cover a lot of ground in one day, especially if you’re keen on seeing Glacier 3000’s highlights but don’t want to organize it all yourself.

Departure and Scenic Drive along Lake Geneva

We start bright and early from Geneva, with a comfortable, air-conditioned coach. The drive along the lake’s shoreline is already a treat, offering glimpses of the city against the water and the mountains beyond. This part helps set the peaceful, scenic tone for the day ahead.

Stop at Col du Pillon and Les Diablerets

Our first pause is at Col du Pillon, a picturesque mountain pass in the heart of the Alps. Here, you get a quick 20-minute window to stretch and appreciate the scenery. The charming mountain village of Les Diablerets is also nearby if you’re interested in a quick stroll. Since it’s a free stop, you can soak in the mountain air and snap some photos.

It's always fun going to a peak in the Alps. We loved the Alpine Coaster – fun and different. The peak to peak walk was also unique. It was a nice ride through vineyards and up the mountain. And, who wouldn't enjoy a pic w/Freddie Mercury's statue and his recording studio. Montreaux is beautiful. Aristotle did a nice job! Great driver and good information sharing. A fun day!

Absolutely fantastic day out. The tour guide David was brilliant and handled everything perfectly from explaining the tour to showing all the points of interest along the way, his driving was also flawless and I was really impressed with it too be honest on these tight windy roads 👏🏻. Glacier 3000 itself was just excellent, it's almost like a different world once you get up in them clouds. Taking my daughter to play in the snow is not something you can usually do in August 😂… personally I don't like heights but I kinda conquered that fear as you have little choice up there sitting on a ski lift. If you are able to do it then you need to experience the Alpine coaster, you have to p…

Glacier 3000 Experience

This is the highlight for many. If you’ve opted for the cable car, you’ll ascend over the peaks to reach Glacier 3000, at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,000 meters). Once there, the views are genuinely breathtaking — a 360-degree panorama of legendary peaks including the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, and even the Matterhorn in the distance.

Walking on the glacier trail, you’ll get close to the icy surface, which is a surreal experience. Several reviewers have raved about the suspension Peak Walk by Tissot, the only bridge in the world connecting two mountain peaks. Standing on this 107-meter-long bridge offers unrivaled views that make for memorable photos and a sense of achievement, especially if heights challenge you.

For those seeking more thrills, optional activities like the Alpine Coaster (a high-altitude toboggan run), Snow Bus ride, or even riding a snowcat are available — but they come at extra costs. Keep in mind, weather can influence these options; windy or rainy days might mean closures or limited visibility.

Glacier Walk and Peak Walk

The glacier walk trail is well-marked and offers a safe way to tread on the icy surface, giving a close-up look at the glacier environment. Crossing the Peak Walk suspension bridge is a definite “wow” moment, with views spanning the Alps and iconic peaks. A few reviewers mentioned the bridge’s length makes it feel short, but the scenery compensates.

The driver to the activity was excellent, the organisation was also super. My only criticism is that it is quite expensive but the experience was worth it

Return to the Coach and Drive to Montreux

After descending from the glacier, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive to Montreux, the lakeside resort town famous for its jazz festival and lush microclimate. The town’s historic charm, with its palm-lined promenade, Freddie Mercury statue, and lakeside cafes, is a perfect place for a relaxed stroll.

You’ll have about an hour of free time here, which some travelers found a little tight, especially during busy seasons or if you want to visit the Queen studio or explore more beyond the main walkway. Several reviews mentioned that a longer stop might improve the experience, but overall, most found it a delightful conclusion to the day.

Final Drop-off in Geneva

The tour wraps up with the coach returning to the original meeting point, generally around late afternoon or early evening.

What We Think About the Cost and Value

Glacier 3000 and Montreux Riviera from Geneva - What We Think About the Cost and Value

At roughly $143 per person, this tour offers a packed day of diverse experiences, which many see as worth the price. The actual activities at Glacier 3000 — from the suspension bridge to glacier walks — create memories that last. Plus, the convenience of round-trip transport from Geneva and a guide adds to the appeal.

Wonderful thats all i can say even though the weather wasnt so good but the stop at montreux was paid it off Roger our driver and guide was great he came before time explained everything thoroughly was very lively and even gave all of us an suprise after the glacier 3000 tour Highly recommend this tour
Nithin P
Amazing tour guide, explained everything well and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Made trip to Switzerland very worth.
Michael B
Great trip led bye knowledgeable guide Roger was great freindly bloke driver guide all in one Hot wine was nice little touch The glacier itself is amazing

However, some reviews point out that the experience might feel a tad expensive considering the optional activities cost extra and the short time allocated at certain stops. If you’re on a tight budget, you might find some optional add-ons like the alpine coaster or Snow Bus tempting but ultimately costly.

Weather and Timing Considerations

One of the recurring themes in feedback is weather’s impact. Visibility at high altitudes can be limited by fog or rain, and some activities depend heavily on good weather. It’s wise to keep a flexible mindset, especially in winter or shoulder seasons.

Accessibility and Group Size

Given the typical group size of up to 200 travelers, expect a lively, bustling atmosphere. The guides are generally praised for their friendliness and knowledge, making the long day more enjoyable.

Food and Dining

Lunch at the panoramic restaurant at Glacier 3000 is not included, and reviews note that food and drinks there are at your own expense. The prices are reportedly on the higher side, so packing snacks or planning accordingly might be a good idea.

I did this trip as a solo traveler who has just turned 19. The experience was unbelievable and the views are one of a kind. The tour guide was also amazing and extremely knowledgeable about the entire area and offered hot tea to the group after the Glacier 3000. Everything is planned out great and refunds and alternative trips are offered if the excursion cancelled as the weather is unpredictable. Must do as a Solo Traveller or Group Trip 10/10 🙂

Super easy to find the tour company the tour guide was very friendly and funny the mountain I have no words for most beautiful place I’ve ever been absolutely incredible 100% recommend the cafe and gift shop at the top was not bad price either.
Andi P
Glacier 3000 was an amazing place to visit, like nothing I've seen before. Getting on the bus at the office was very disorganised and resulted in leaving 30 minutes late, which reduced our time at the Glacier. The stop in Montreux needs to be longer than 1 hour when xmas markets are on.
