If you’re eyeing a day trip from Malaga that combines striking scenery, fascinating history, and cozy town vibes, this semi-private tour of Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas might just fit the bill. While I haven’t taken this exact tour myself, the consistent glowing reviews and detailed descriptions suggest it offers a genuinely enjoyable experience.

What really catches our attention are two things: the tour’s small group size—max just 8 travelers—which promises a more tailored experience, and the expert guide, who, from reviews, seems to make the places come alive with stories and insights.

On the flip side, a potential consideration is the long day, with quite a bit of walking under the sun, so it’s best suited for those in good shape and comfortable with some physical activity.

Setenil de las Bodegas is quite different. Manu took us beyond the Sol and the Sombra. Try the payoyo cheese. Ronda has grown so much since I was here about 30 years ago. It was still spectacular the second time around. Manu has so much to share. He was quite careful about giving us the truth about a place vs what a touristy story.

Excellent day out. Group of 6 very friendly passengers and our excellent travel guide Manu. Manu kept us entertained all day and adapted things to take in extra requests. I would highly recoiment a visit to Setenil & Ronda and if you do choose Travel Factory.

This quirky town is the first highlight. Known for its houses built into and against massive rock formations, it’s a sight to behold. Streets like Calle Cueva de las Sombras and the Calle del Sol are especially iconic. Walking here feels like stepping into a fairy tale, with homes and businesses embedded into giant cliffs.

The town’s old medina offers sweeping views of the old abbey, giving a sense of history layered into the landscape.

Our Ronda tour was truly one of the highlights of our entire Spain trip. The dramatic views from Puente Nuevo and the El Tajo gorge were absolutely breathtaking, and every corner of the old town felt like stepping into a storybook. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about Ronda’s history and culture. We learned so much about the city’s Moorish roots, its bullfighting traditions, and the legends behind its stunning architecture.
Ngoc D
Good tour. There is a bit of walking during the hot afternoon hours. Shops to eat / shop and interesting historical town

The tour’s three-hour exploration of Ronda includes a walk through its historic center, narrow alleyways, parks, and key sites like the House of the Moorish King. Many visitors mention how the city’s imposing cliffs and panoramic views make it a memorable place.

Our reviews also commend Emilio’s storytelling—he takes his time to point out details, explain the significance of sites, and answer questions. One reviewer noted, “His knowledge was amazing, and he made it feel like exploring with a friend,” which really captures what makes this guide stand out.

The Experience in Detail

Ronda & Setenil de las Bodegas, land of contrasts / Semi-Private - The Experience in Detail

The transportation is a key part of the experience. Traveling in a comfortable Mercedes van, the journey feels relaxed but efficient. The small size of the group, capped at 8, contributes to a sense of intimacy and flexibility that larger tours simply can’t match.

The timing is well-managed—each stop offers enough time for photos, exploring, and soaking in the atmosphere without feeling rushed. You’ll have around 1 hour 30 minutes in Setenil and 3 hours in Ronda, which should allocate enough flexibility for personal exploration.

Absolutely stunning small group tour. Emilio our guide felt like an old friend by the time we ended the excursion! So much was learned about the history and culture of this area. I wouldn't hesitate to book with him again and would highly recommend him. This type of tour is well worth a little extra for a personal more informative experience with like minded travellers.

This tour was first class. We got to see so much during the tour. Emilio our tour guide was excellent. It felt like going on a tour with a friend rather than a guide. His knowledge of the places visited and seen was amazing and he took his time and explained everything and answered any questions we asked. The pace of the tour is easy going which is good and as it is a small group, it felt more relaxed. Thank you for a great day out!!!

This is a full day of exploration. Emilio picked up our group of 7 in a nice Mercedes van. He drove us to Setenil, where we spent about an hour walking that amazing little town where many homes and businesses are embedded against giant overhanging rocks. Then on to Ronda which was larger and even more beautiful than expected. Emilio did a great job of communicating the logistics of our trip both before and during the trip. He is a native of the area and clearly passionate and knowledgeable about its culture and history. His English is excellent so it was a pleasure to listen to him; he’s easy to understand. The tour was just the right mix of group exploration and time on our own. Als…

One thing worth noting is that lunch isn’t included—so you might want to bring some snacks or plan to enjoy some local eateries during free time. Many reviewers mention the charm of local shops and cafes where you can sample regional flavors.

Emilio took time to give us detailed information including a great deal of historic information. He took as much time as we wanted. Amazing guy!

This was one of our bucket list of things to do. Firstly, we had a great guide in Manu, he was on time and gave us the greatest news possible that this tour would be equivalent to a private tour as some other guests had cancelled their booking. He explained our itinerary very thoroughly highlighting the reasons why we would visit Serenity first and then Ronda which turned out to be the correct decision due to the weather. Both places were really a sight to behold, though for me Ronda was truly amazing. My wife and I really enjoyed this tour and will make every effort to book with Manu again if ever we are back in Spain
