Rioja Wine Route with winery owner

Discover Rioja’s best wines with a guided tour from the winery owner, featuring visits to three unique wineries, tasting, and a traditional lunch.

5.0(54 reviews)From $356.01 per person

If you’re considering a wine tour in Spain, particularly in the Rioja region, this experience caught our eye. It’s a trip that promises intimate insights into Rioja wines, guided by the very person who makes them— the owner himself. From what we’ve gathered, it’s a highly-rated, small-group adventure that combines scenic vineyards, genuine education, and a memorable lunch.

What really draws us in is the personalized touch of visiting the owner’s own winery, La Bodega del Tesoro, and experiencing tasting sessions in three carefully selected wineries. Plus, the inclusion of a traditional meal at a winery from 1881 makes it feel authentic and special.

The potential downside? For some travelers, the price tag of over $340 per person might seem steep, especially when you need to book well in advance—about 45 days on average.

This wine tour felt so unique and personal. The host is really passionate about local and family wineries. (He is also very serious about it) We visited two family owned wineries and one more commercial one. My only regret was not buying some of the wine from the first place we visited (they export some of their wines but not all). The really unique part was that he and his family live in a village and their house has its own old winery building and wine cave. He showed us around there and then we had a wonderful and relaxing homemade lunch _inside_ an old wine barrel. It's been reworked to be a cozy nook. Okay, I have one other regret — I didn't ask his wife for her stew recipe!

Jose was a great guide and the end of the tour was at his own wine experience.. it’s hard to describe other than to say that it was spectacular and worst way more than 5 stars. We would highly recommend this experience! Please support Jose and his family in keeping the wine history of small producers in the region alive. The renovation of a historic wine property is incredible.

Excellent experience that was seamlessly managed from the beginning until the end. José picked us up from our hotel before taking us to see some of the vines, explaining the Rioja regulations / label colours before heading off to three wine makers aka Bodegas to sample their wines – note be prepared for larger than usual samples so pace yourself and I’d suggest definitely having breakfast beforehand! After visiting the vineyards and winemakers José takes you to a restored winery for more wine and a delicious, home cooked three course meal (plus appetiser) which is a great experience, particularly if you like a bit of history. Definitely worth the money for a full day out!!

Best Day of our vacation. Jose provided a very complete explanation of the grape/wine processing and brought us to his home restored winery. We met and enjoyed Jose's family and his prepared dinner. Must rate the tour a 10. we have a new friend in Spain.
