Planning a trip to Tenerife and considering a tour of El Teide National Park? We’ve looked into this experience to give you a clear, honest picture of what to expect. It’s a popular choice, especially for those eager to see the iconic volcano and enjoy sweeping views of the Canary Islands—all without too much fuss.

What we like about this tour is the convenient hotel pickup, which takes away the hassle of self-driving or navigating unfamiliar roads. Plus, the chance to witness breathtaking landscapes—from lunar-like volcanic terrain to pine forests—is definitely a highlight.

However, a potential downside is that the cable car ride isn’t included, which means an extra expense if you want to get closer to the summit.

It wasn’t made clear that it wasn’t a walking trip. We spent most of the time waiting for on a bus. 1

A lovely trip with fantastic sights. Fernando the tour guide did a great job, was informative and was clear with instructions. A special thank you to Victor the driver who saved an idiotic tourist like me that came without the right warm clothes on. He gave me his coat and it saved the day.

Teide National Park is really an amazing place to visit with a really stunning landscape! This was definitely the highlight of our winter break in Tenerife. We were collected on time and met our tour guide Enrique, who is a very nice guy and then we started the very interesting drive up into the mountains. I picked this tour as it gives the national park the time it definitely deserves rather than so many other tours which just seem to have a short stop at Teide. We made two stops for about 30 minutes each where we had time to walk around the incredible landscape and take some pictures. Then there was the cable car stop… unfortunately we didn't get tickets with this company as we had thoug…

This tour tends to suit travelers who appreciate a guided, relaxed day with plenty of photo opportunities and interesting stops. It’s also good for those who want a straightforward way to see the volcano without dedicating an entire day, though be aware that weather can impact some aspects of the experience.

What Is Included and What Isn’t?

The tour covers hotel pickup and drop-off at selected hotels, which is a major bonus in terms of convenience. Once at El Teide National Park, you’ll enjoy several stops to take photos, walk around, and explore the lunar-like terrain formed by lava flows, sand, and rocks. These stops are spread across roughly four hours, giving you ample time to soak in the scenery and snap some memorable pictures.

However, food and drinks are not included, so plan to bring some snacks or buy at stops along the way. Also, the cable car ticket is an add-on you’ll need to purchase separately if you want to ascend closer to the volcano’s peak—weather permitting, of course. The tour operator advises booking your cable car tickets in advance, as they can sell out during busy months.

It was beautiful view on the Teide Mountain! It was a long journey when the coach returned, it took us from 8:45-18:06, over 9 hours for the whole journey but it shows 5-7 hours on the activity information.

I hate to grade humans, because I’m not a perfect person, but our tour guide for the Tiede national park tour was above ,and beyond 100 percent-he works well with the driver ,of the tour bus, and is working a perfectly flawless game plan for fun, education and information-both men made us feel like family, and was always there with answers to our questions-not sure how you find such talent, but glad you do-well done, and excellent full day, thank you much! See you again in the near future amigos!

The tour guide and the driver were excellent, I enjoyed the whole experience, The mountain was beautiful.

This initial stop allows some time for photos and a short walk to stretch your legs. If you’re interested, you can take the cable car at this point, but keep in mind that the ticket isn’t included. The landscape here is fascinating: a moonscape of lava flows, sand, and rocks, great for those who love geology or just enjoy otherworldly scenery.

Stop 2: Volcan El Teide

The highlight of the day is visiting Mount Teide itself. The guide will take you closer to the volcano, offering insights into its formation and significance. If the weather is clear, you may be able to buy a ticket for the cable car and ascend towards the summit.

The views from the top can be spectacular—whether you’re above the clouds or on a clear day, you’ll see the surrounding Canary Islands stretching out in every direction.

Many travelers mention the breathtaking vistas from the volcano, with some reviews highlighting how incredible it is to see multiple islands from this vantage point. Keep in mind that cable car tickets are not included, and the guide can help you purchase them if you decide to go up.

Great day out, well organised, super lovely guide and driver, excellent value and amazing landscape. Had a few nice stops enroute to visit a pine forest, cafe, scenic points etc very well paced. If you don’t opt for the cable car included make sure you pre purchase your cable car ticket if you’re wanting to go to the top of the volcano 🌋 and check with the company timings- I didn’t realise it’s really hard to get tickets on the day

The bus came a bit later but then we realized that driver picked up guests from hotels or spots closed to the hotels driving through the small streets, so it was ok. After the tour everybody was dropped off at the same locations. It was a pity that cable car didn’t work that day due to weather conditions but company arranged refunds for cable cars tickets very quickly, so here also no comments. The tour itself is a separate story because seems we’ve got the most funniest guide I’ve ever seen – Enrique (I hope I wrote his name correctly). Together with the driver (Juan Ramon, ex Formula 1 driver, as he was represented) they made perfect diet 😁. People in the bus were laughing the wh…

Enjoyed the trip the guide was just lovely and driver also. Air very thin at top was warned of this en route and found out so much about Tenerife too

Optional Cable Car Ride

The cable car can take you partway up the mountain, offering a short ride that saves walking and escalates the adventure. But it’s important to remember that weather conditions can affect operation—sometimes the ride may be unavailable if clouds or wind are too strong. The cost is extra, and some reviews mention that the ticket is best bought online beforehand to avoid missing out.

The Experience: What Travelers Are Saying

Teide National Park (5-7hours) - The Experience: What Travelers Are Saying

Many reviewers are positive about what this tour offers. For example, one reviewer praised Fernando, the tour guide, for being “informative and clear with instructions,” making the experience enjoyable. Another shared how Victor, the driver, went above and beyond by giving his coat to a fellow traveler caught unprepared for the mountain’s chill, which many found heartwarming.

The landscapes are often described as “spectacular”, with some reviewers calling the national park “the highlight of their Tenerife trip.” They appreciated the well-organized stops—such as the pine forests and scenic viewpoints—and the opportunity to take plenty of photos.

One traveler pointed out that, despite the long journey (sometimes over 9 hours including pickup and drop-off), the trip felt worth it because of the views and the peaceful atmosphere around the volcano. Many mention how helpful and knowledgeable the guides are, making complex geological features accessible and engaging.

Great trip to a really fascinating area and highly recommended. Amazing views from the top of the Volcano but very cold. Tip for doing this trip take some warm clothing even in the height of summer it will be cold due to the high altitude. Overarching a well organise and enjoyable trip

Fantastic tour with different spots to see. Even time for a little hike around Mirador de La Rulata. The guide was providing us with lots of information and they stopped at many important locations. The tour is highly recimmended. Be aware that the ticket for the cable car is not included. You can buy it on your own via internet.

Brilliant day out! Views were spectacular. Our tour guide was amazing, brilliant humour and so informative. Could listen to him all day. Got a good few stops for photos and something to eat or drink. Also plenty of stops for toilets. 100% recommend!

The Downsides and Considerations

Teide National Park (5-7hours) - The Downsides and Considerations

While most reviews lean positive, a few travelers mention some drawbacks. The most common is the length of the bus ride, which can be quite long, especially if you’re picked up from a location far from the main meeting points. Some found the journey a bit tiresome, especially if they prefer shorter trips.

Another consideration is the cost of the cable car, which is not included in the tour price. It’s wise to budget for this extra if you want the full experience. Some travelers also expressed disappointment that the cable car was not operational on the day of their visit, turning what could have been a highlight into just a scenic viewpoint.

Plus, the tour is mostly a bus ride with stops rather than a walk-focused adventure. If you’re hoping for a hike or a more active experience, this might not be the best fit, as it’s designed to be a relaxed day out, not a mountaineering trip.

Who Is This Tour Best For?

This trip suits travelers looking for a hassle-free way to see the volcano and the landscapes around Teide without dedicating an entire day or dealing with self-driving. It’s ideal if you want stunning views with some informative commentary, and don’t mind paying extra for the cable car if you choose to go up.

Unfortunately they only leave on certain days from the north, so I was refunded! But I appreciate them not just keeping the “free” money. 🙂

Such an amazing trip. My friend and I were meant to go on the half-day trip but did not realise we booked the wrong day. The company were really kind and helpful by letting us go on the full-day tour and it was great. Really lovely guide (Alicia) and driver (Solomon) who made sure everyone had a good time. It was a quick and easy pick-up from the hotel and we managed to get to the tour spots in better time than other tour coaches, meaning we had great views without a mass of people. Thanks so much again!
Zaynah A
Tour guide speaks English, French and Spanish, fluently And is really funny, making whole experience memorable and a good laugh

It’s also a good option for those who prefer small group tours (maximum 15 people) for a more personal experience. If you’re comfortable with a long bus journey and want to enjoy the scenery from the comfort of a coach, this will work well.

However, if you’re after more physical activity, or if you’re on a tight budget and want to include the cable car, you might want to explore other options. Weather-dependent elements mean some flexibility is advisable when planning your day.
