An Honest Look at the La Gomera Day Trip from Tenerife

La Gomera Day Trip from Tenerife - An Honest Look at the La Gomera Day Trip from Tenerife

If you’re considering a day trip from Tenerife to explore the charming island of La Gomera, this tour could be just what you’re after. It promises a mix of scenic landscapes, local culture, and some well-loved highlights, all wrapped into a full day of adventure.

While many travelers find it a convenient way to tick off La Gomera’s must-see sights, it’s worth knowing what you’re signing up for—especially if you want a relaxed, in-depth experience.

The island of La Gomera is beautiful. The ferry ride was nice. The driver on the island was fabulous. Everything else was subpar or worse. The guide was unintelligible, even in her native language. She droned on and on at a speed that was too fast and with intonation that was like she thought she was performing for an opera. We wanted to cover our ears because her voice was so grating. Despite everything, we were going to tip her, but she jumped off the bus at the first stop on the return, and left everybody else on the bus with a bus driver who kept crossing the midline and driving erratically. We felt a bit abandoned. We were supposed to arrive at the hotel at 6:30p but ended up getting dr…

Teresa is a great tour guide!! She was giving us information in three languages and we saw so much. The lunch was amazing. The bus driver was very skilled in driving on the narrow, winding roads. I highly recommend this tour!

The ferry ride to/from La Gomera was nice. There was an auto race on the island so we had to get to the national park before noon before the road closed, so we didn't make stops on the way there, but did on the way back. There was plenty of time to see things on our own in the places we stopped. Beautiful views of El Tiede!

Two things we really like about this tour are the inclusions: a comfortable bus ride that takes you across stunning terrain and a well-organized schedule that hits key sights without rushing. Plus, the chance to enjoy a local lunch and see the famous Silbo whistling performance adds authentic flavor to the day.

On the flip side, some reviews point out that the guided commentary can be hard to understand and that the itinerary might feel a little tight for those wanting more time at each stop.

This tour generally suits travelers who want a structured, all-in-one experience with comforts like hotel pickup and return. It’s particularly good for those with limited time or who prefer guided visits over self-planned exploration.

But if you’re after a leisurely, in-depth look at La Gomera or traveling with small children who need more flexibility, you might want to consider other options or do some prep beforehand.

A long day. Pick up and drop-off. Predominantly scenic tour with a short demonstration of communicative whistling. The lunch offered was fair and is wholly reflected in the price. A comfortable trip on the ferry. The commentary was delivered in several languages, which I found interrupted the flow of the narration. Worth doing the tour just to experience La Gomera.

Variability of visuals. Excellent tour guide and driver. Bus was very comfortable. Significant walking through the forrest… not for beginners or those with limited mobility. Would recommend this after tour to Mt. Tiede
Thereza H
Gorgeous views. However, boarding the ferry was chaotic and frustrating because the tour guide wasn't easily spotted and I almost missed her. She also spoke English with an unusual cadence and emphasis on words, making her difficult to understand and sometimes making the English unrecognizable.

What to Expect on the Day

La Gomera Day Trip from Tenerife - What to Expect on the Day

Morning Pickup & Ferry Ride

The day starts early, with hotel pickup in Tenerife, usually around 7:30 am. The convenience of hotel collection simplifies logistics, especially if you’re staying centrally. Once on the bus, the journey to the ferry port is smooth, and the high-speed ferry crossing is generally comfortable.

Many reviews mention the ferry as a pleasant part of the trip—some even say it’s a highlight, thanks to the scenic views and calm ride.

Arriving at San Sebastian

Once on La Gomera, you’ll arrive at San Sebastian, the island’s charming capital. Here, you’ll walk through sun-dappled plazas, listen to stories about Christopher Columbus’s connections with the island, and get a sense of local life. The small, walkable city provides a glimpse into La Gomera’s history and culture.

Reviewers note that the guide’s commentary is delivered in multiple languages, which sometimes makes it hard to follow, especially if the sound system isn’t great.

I booked this trip as I realised last minute that I had a spare day and I'd always wanted to see what La Gomera was like and I appreciated that they had last minute availability. It's a great way to get a taste of the island, you travel a fair distance and it's well-paced. I enjoyed the free time to stroll in the national park and used the time at the end to go for a swim as the beach next to the ferry port is really nice, soft black sands and safe for swimming. The meal we had at lunch was good, it was 3 courses which was appreciated. However I would say that though the practicalities are there and it's easy it do, it's actually a bit bland. All the facts that are red out are clearly just…

Antonio was an amazing guide! We got to see everything without feeling rushed. The pick up was a bit late but the tour was well organized so there was enough time for us to catch the ferry even will the delay. I was wary when I realized that the tour would be done in 3 languages. But it was never an issue. Antonio shared his love for La Gomera through stories that made the history come alive. This is such a good deal considering that it includes, pick up, the ferry, a tour, and lunch.
Bardia H
The beautiful sites we visited and the ferry ride were absolutely memorable. We won't forget the experience. The only areas that can be improved are the duration of stay at each site and the number of languages used during the tour. Translation in four languages, although understandable, became exhausting after a while.

Exploring Garajonay National Park & El Cedro Forest

The UNESCO-listed Garajonay National Park is a major draw—lush mossy forests, dramatic mountains, and scenic viewpoints. We loved the way the tour takes you through this enchanting landscape, often described as scenic and otherworldly.

You can expect about an hour here, which some travelers say feels a little brief given the park’s beauty. The El Cedro forest is another highlight, with its mossy trees and cool air great for a short walk.

Lunch & Silbo Whistling

A local restaurant inside the national park hosts your lunch, which is typically described as decent, with traditional Canarian dishes. The included meal gives you time to relax and enjoy the views of Mount Teide in the distance.

The Silbo whistle performance—an ancient communication method—adds an interesting cultural touch that many travelers find fascinating. Reviewers say the lunch is satisfactory, though not gourmet, and some mention the meal can be simple or rushed.

The change in landscape when we travelled over highest point from one side of island to the other. I did not care for the stopping point at village of Masca. We stopped outside restaurant and I thought the owner/staff on duty were very unfriendly. They made it very clear, by having toilet locked, that you could not use their toilet unless you purchased something! I think this was very unwelcoming or rather unnecessary as most tourists who take tour of island are generous when it comes to supporting their economy.
Adam P
Get picked up from bus stop close to my hotel, had to walk about 600m which is not a problem at all. Picked at 8.35 in the morning and get back to the hotel at 19:20. Tour guide was very nice, she said everything in 4 different languages at the begining it was confusing when she is speaking in English but after a while we get used to. W had stop many times on the road for nice sight views to take a picture. I think there was about 8 stops. When we get to the top we had a nice but not long walk in the forest. We get to restaurant where I get disappointed. 4 course meal and best part of it was bread and water. We did not expect an Michelin star food but a decent one as many people mentioned it…
Julian B
We had a great time on this trip. The scenery was beautiful and the food was marvelous. I especially enjoyed getting to chat with our fellow travelers at lunch. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that we happened to book on a local holiday, so the trip was cut short by the lack of a late ferry. Had I known this would happen, I would have booked it for a different day of our trip. I definitely wish we had gotten another hour or so in La Gomera. The tour company should make this clear if not in their description, then when they reach out to arrange for the pickup.

Passing Through Villages & Seeing Roque de Agando

On the way back, you’ll pass through quaint villages like Chipude and El Cercado, where scenery shifts from lush forests to rocky landscapes. The striking Roque de Agando, a protruding volcanic formation, is often praised for its dramatic appearance. It’s a quick stop, about 10 minutes, but enough for a photo or two. Several reviews mention the breathtaking views here, making it worth the journey.

Return & Drop-off

The day concludes with the ferry ride back to Tenerife, then a bus transfer to your hotel. Some reviews mention that delays or local events (like a race) can affect timing, so flexibility might be necessary. Expect to arrive back around 7:30 pm to 8 pm, making it a long but rewarding day.

  • Comfort & convenience: Hotel pickup and drop-off, plus a well-organized itinerary, make for a smooth experience.

Is the Price Justified?

For around $120, this tour packs a lot into one day—ferry rides, guided sightseeing, lunch, and transportation. Many reviewers find the value reasonable, especially considering the convenience. However, those seeking a more in-depth or leisurely visit might find it a bit rushed, especially if they’re keen on exploring at their own pace.

Who Should Consider This Tour?

This trip is ideal for travelers who want the essentials—spectacular vistas, cultural highlights, and a hassle-free experience—without needing to organize every detail themselves. It’s great for those who enjoy guided tours, don’t mind a busy schedule, and want to get a good overview of La Gomera’s highlights.

We thought the tour was only in English however turned out to be in 4 languages. The guide was good but the sound system was very poor and was unable to hear commentary. The lunch was good
Andrew W
Spectacular views and a very nice lunch all in all a very good experience! If I had to make any comments, the descriptions in 3 languages began to grate a bit but Marcel obviously knew his subject and explained it all fully! From my personal point of view the pick up bus could have had better leg room but I am over 6feet tall! The bus driver (jose) on the island negotiated the winding roads brilliantly, thank you!
Charles R
Scenery was spectacular! Very good careful driver. Restaurant food was better than expected and wine was pretty good too

If you’re traveling with limited time, or if you value comfort and structure over extended exploration, this tour offers a practical solution. But if you’re after a slow-paced, in-depth exploration, or traveling with small children needing more flexibility, you might prefer a different approach or a private tour.

The Bottom Line

All in all, this La Gomera day trip offers a solid way to see the highlights of this beautiful island without the hassle of planning. While it has some shortcomings—like limited time at each stop and occasional communication hiccups—it’s generally appreciated for its scenic drives, comfortable transportation, and inclusive extras like lunch and the whistling show.

It works best for travelers who enjoy guided experiences, want a snapshot of La Gomera’s landscapes and culture, and appreciate the convenience of hotel pickup. If you’re prepared for a full, energetic day with some moments of rushed sightseeing, this tour can be a memorable part of your Tenerife adventure.
