Planning an evening under the stars in Tenerife? This Mount Teide Stargazing with Dinner tour promises a mix of sunset views, a hearty three-course meal, and close-up star spotting using professional telescopes. It’s a popular choice, thanks to its high ratings and the promise of expert guidance—an experience that many travelers find both educational and awe-inspiring.

What we love about this tour is how well-organized the experience is. From the pick-up service to the well-paced itinerary, everything seems designed to maximize your enjoyment. Plus, the combination of a scenic sunset and star gazing makes for a memorable evening, especially if you’re keen on astronomy or simply want an impressive night out.

However, it’s worth mentioning that weather can be a bit unpredictable, especially when it comes to clear skies. A few reviews note that cloud cover or a bright moon can limit what you get to see through the telescopes. So, if you’re visiting during a full moon or expect cloudy skies, keep your expectations flexible.

A truly breathtaking experience with loads of wow moments. Our Tour Guide Kieran was very knowledgeable and experienced. He answered all our questions in detail and also answered our children’s questions with full explanations which was very much appreciated. The complete end to end experience was very smooth and very well executed. Theory downside for a specifically was the food given that we are vegetarians and do not eat eggs, fish meat or mushrooms so our your choice was a bit limited, but we expected it so we had actually eaten a heavy lunch in the town before going on the excursion. They don’t lie when they say it does get nippy up there the good thing is those puffer jackets are a…

The sunset viewing was amazing but, unfortunately, the stargazing was somewhat underwhelming because of the bright moon and scattered clouds. However, it was very well organised and the staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The star pointer wasn’t always easy to follow. The telescopes were much smaller I expected- only 8” – so the images were quite small. My husband’s SkyView app was more impressive!

Absolutely fabulous evening from start to finish. Kieran and his very knowledgeable staff ensured that everyone had the same opportunities to view the moon and stars through their amazing telescopes.

This tour suits those who appreciate a blend of good food, scenic views, and a serious dose of stargazing. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a relaxed yet engaging night that offers a deeper look at the cosmos, guided by knowledgeable staff.

This experience was very well organised, the guides were very knowledgeable and approachable to answer any questions, and made the experience enjoyable.

Brilliant from time picked up, lots of information all the way there. Due to the weather we didn't see sunrise but no one can control the weather. The stargazing and informative talk was fantastic, so much knowledge. We were well looked after, the use of extra coats was invaluable as it was a very cold night up so high and refreshments added bonus. The stars were amazing, such a great fun tour.

From bring picked up & dropped back to our hotel, the whole experince was 1st class. All the staff of Night Skies were superb helpful & professional & a lovely meal as well, it's a must do experience.

Many reviews highlight how beautiful this moment is—”stunning sunset above the clouds,” as one traveler put it, with a glass of champagne or wine in hand.

Dinner at a Charismatic Local Restaurant

After the sunset, the group heads to an authentic Canarian restaurant for a three-course meal. The dinner is described as good quality, with some reviewers mentioning it as a highlight, especially paired with a glass of local wine or beer. The meal is a great way to relax before heading into the evening’s main event, and it adds a layer of culture.

The Star Gazing

As darkness falls, your guides will take you to an area with minimal light pollution—crucial for good star viewing. Here, you’ll use professional telescopes and laser pointers to identify constellations, planets, the Moon, and even distant galaxies. Several reviews love the quality of the equipment, with travelers noting the “A+ quality telescopes” and how “everyone had a chance to see through them.”

Learning and Mythology

One of the tour’s strengths is the knowledge shared by the guides. They not only point out celestial objects but also tell stories and myths associated with them, making the experience both educational and entertaining. As one reviewer said, guides “share tips on the best sunset spots and stargazing areas,” and “explain the science and mythology” in a friendly manner.

We had an excellent evening on the Tuesday night, meal and sunset great, moon looked amazing but there were clouds so it was cancelled, however options were offered which was amazing and we went back on Friday night, the team are really knowledgeable and gave us a good insight into the stars. It was cold but they provided jackets and hot chocolate, it is extremely well run and everyone involved were great.

The Atmosphere and Group Size

The tour is capped at 52 participants, which keeps things lively but not overwhelming. Some reviews mention the large group size—”lots of people as in a giant tour bus”—but many still found the experience enjoyable, especially with enthusiastic guides.

The tour’s timing, typically about 6.5 hours, allows for a leisurely pace with plenty of opportunities to take photos, ask questions, or simply marvel at the sky.

Weather Considerations

Weather is a factor worth noting. While Tenerife generally boasts excellent conditions for star gazing, cloud cover or a bright moon can interfere. Several reviews mention that clouds or the moon’s brightness limited their view, but the staff made good efforts to adapt, offering alternative options or rescheduling.

It’s smart to check the weather forecast beforehand and be prepared for chilly temperatures—warm clothing, hats, and gloves are highly recommended.

Picked up on time. All guides (and driver) were great and very knowledgeable. Restaurant was basic – really this tour should not include a meal and then it could leave later in the day. Fantastic stargazing. Unbelievable what you can see with the naked eye, all enhanced with the telescopes. We had a great night. Awesome professional photos taken by Craig, included in the price – much appreciated. It is very, very cold up Lady Teide – be warned!

Fab evening – Canarian dinner, followed by catching a magnificent sunset and then an amazing star gazing experience. Lots of WOW moments throughout the evening. The magic half moon and seeing Jupiter for the 1st time. Would definitely do again as the guys were so knowledgeable and easy going. Having the special photos included was a superb bonus. Highly recommend.
Tracey L
Excellent guides, excellent events for the excursion. Take their advice when they say to bundle up. I recommend hats and gloves. If I had one comment for improvement it would be with regard to the building next to the location we stopped at for star gazing, regarding a security light that seemed to be directly pointed at us really was distracting from the event. I heard others comment on it as well. Were it not for this, I would give the excursion 5 stars. I really think it is one of the best excursions of our trip and one I think everyone should consider.

Great experience and very well organised. Sunset with cava was lovely and looking through the telescopes was amazing / Sirius my favourite.
Richard K
Even though the clouds threatened to spoil the evening the group and Hans persisted to the end and had an amazing night. One thing twas bloomin cold !!!
Susan W
We were overwhelmed by being able to see the stars with the naked eye. It was truly magnificent. Be advised to wear more than a jacket. It’s extremely cold!

It’s worth noting that if you’re a seasoned amateur astronomer with your own equipment, this might be more of a tour for first-timers or casual stargazers. The large group size and early start may not suit those seeking an intimate or highly personalized experience, but for most visitors, it strikes a good balance.

People who are generally comfortable outdoors in colder temperatures will appreciate the chilly mountain air and should dress accordingly. It’s also a family-friendly activity, provided children are able to sit through a six-and-a-half-hour evening.

The experience is flexible enough to appeal to first-timers and casual travelers alike, especially those who want to enjoy Tenerife’s incredible night sky without the hassle of planning every detail.

If you’re looking for a memorable way to spend an evening and are prepared for the cold, this tour offers a great mix of natural beauty, cultural storytelling, and astronomical wonder. It’s a solid choice for a special night in Tenerife.
