If you’re planning a trip to Tromsø and want to combine the thrill of husky encounters with the awe of the northern lights, this tour might catch your eye. While I haven’t done it myself, the reviews and details paint a pretty compelling picture of what you can expect.
Whether you’re a dog lover, a keen aurora chaser, or just looking for a memorable Arctic evening, this experience hits many of the right notes.
What I really appreciate about this tour is how it balances wild Arctic scenery with warm comfort—think cozy fires, hearty Norwegian fish stew, and cuddles with gentle huskies.
This was an amazing tour. They made us feel so welcome. The entire tour was extremely well-organized, and there was no confusion. The meal was amazing and exceeded our expectations. The employees were extremely knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions we had. Dogs were so cute. We even got the chance to see the northern lights. They even organized s'mores by the fire for us. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
Had a lovely evening, the guides were very informative about the Huskys and the Northen lights. We were lucky enough to see them just for a few minutes. But overall a very enjoyable evening!
This tour is just a tour to visit the dog kennels. Northern lights isn't really part of it. The dogs are nice but by night time they are tired so most are in their kennel. Only around 10 or so dogs were out with around 40 people. Visit the puppies but it's very brief. The best bit was the meal. Afterwards a strange talk is given about the northern lights whilst toasting marshmallows or rolling down a hill as was said? This tour was the most underwhelming tour I had in Tromso. If you want to see the dogs, book a husky sled tour instead.
Plus, the fact that it includes warm clothing gear and professional guides means you’re well taken care of, even in the coldest night. On the flip side, it’s not a dog sledding adventure, if that’s what you’re after, so keep this in mind.
Still, for those who want a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of dog interaction and a good chance to see the northern lights, it offers a solid experience.
This tour is best suited for animal lovers, those interested in Arctic culture, or travelers who want a comfortable way to enjoy the northern lights without the more demanding activities like sledding or chasing multiple locations. It’s also a good pick if you want a balanced mix of wildlife, local food, and stargazing, with the comfort of hotel pickup and drop-off.

The Itinerary and Location
The tour kicks off with hotel pickup at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø around 6:45 pm, with around 25-minute transport to the Aurora Camp—about 30 minutes from the city center. Being away from the city lights is a major plus; the darkness is essential for catching the northern lights at their best.
We took the bus to a group of houses where we changed into one of their snowsuits. They didn’t smell good. I had done a tour of the Northern Lights before so I expected this would be a chase of the lights maybe accompanied by one or two dogs. It says “husky visit”, right? No, you are taken to a dog compound and it’s not until you get around the dogs and they start pooping and peeing all over their houses that you realize you need to be careful where you step….. we ended up staying there for what felt like an hour and then they took us to the puppies and then took us to eat soup which was actually really good along with chocolate cake and then we went out by the fire, which was love…
Great staff at Husky location. Really friendly and knowledgeable about the dogs and the Nordic life. Food was excellent. Travel to and from the location was comfortable and on time. Great value trip
This was an amazing experience from start to finish. We saw the Northern Lights immediately, which was an absolute bonus. Then they took us in to pet ALL the dogs. The handlers are all so knowledgeable and taught you all about them. Next we had a lovely dinner (vegetarian option was so good). Finally we went out by a campfire to admire the lights and the guides gave a talk about them as well. Obviously, the northern lights aren’t a guarantee, but this would have been worth it without them.
The camp is set up specifically for aurora viewing, which means fewer distractions and better chances of seeing those shimmering green curtains.
The Setting and Atmosphere
Once at the camp, you’ll find yourself in a warm, welcoming environment. The guides are described as knowledgeable and engaged, eager to share insights about the northern lights, huskies, and local customs. As you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the sight of over 300 huskies—a dog lover’s paradise. Many reviews mention how relaxed and happy the dogs seem, which is a testament to their well-being.
Meeting the Huskies
One of the highlights, according to reviews, is the time spent with the dogs. Visitors love cuddling with the huskies and puppies, exploring the kennel at leisure, and getting to know these animals.
The dogs are described as relaxed and genuinely enjoying the interaction, which makes for a warm, friendly atmosphere. Guides often share stories about sled racing and animal welfare, making the experience both fun and educational.
Absolute must do. We were lucky to see the Northern Lights! Getting to play with the dogs under the Lights was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.
Kids had great time visiting the huskies. Also did marshmallows around campfire and sledding down a hill, which was a highlight. Went for a walk through trees, idyllic. daughter loved the puppies. Didn’t see northern lights but it was a snowy, cloudy night. Equipment was great (snowsuits and boots provided) and well organised.
A really magical evening, spent a lot of time meeting the husky’s, admiring the views (and incredible northern lights!) great views and then finishing off with marshmallow toasting
The Dinner and Warmth
In our cozy Gamme-hut, you’ll sit around an open fire, savoring a local bacalao—a spicy fish stew with regional ingredients. Vegetarian options are available if you request beforehand, which is a thoughtful touch.
The meal is described as tasty, with reviews mentioning delicious food and a friendly setting. After the meal, there’s time for photo ops and to say goodbye to the dogs before the lights appear.
Waiting for the Aurora
The guides are vigilant, watching the sky for signs of activity. They keep you informed and are quick to call everyone outside for optimal viewing. Even if the weather isn’t perfect—cloudy or rainy—many reviewers still appreciated the warmth inside, the chance to pet the dogs, and the overall ambiance.
Several reviews mention how the guides helped enhance the experience, whether through storytelling or calling guests out to see the lights at just the right moment.
We had the most amazing experience. We were really lucky as the sky was clear so we could see the Northern Lights in all their glory. We also very much enjoyed cuddly the huskys. The camp fire was wonderful. All in all a great trip enjoyed by all.
Such a fun time! Our guide was really informative and went out of her way to make sure everyone had a lovely time. The dogs are obviously very loved and well cared for. We had plenty of time to cuddle with both the adults and puppies, were given plenty of food and had an unreal view of the northern lights! Perfect for animal lovers!
Absolutely amazing. Such a fun time with the huskies and watching the northern lights at the same time. Transportation easy and good. 10/10 recommend
The Aurora and Final Moments
If the northern lights do make an appearance, you’ll love the magical glow dancing across the sky. Many reviewers mention how lucky they felt to see even a mild aurora, describing the moment as unforgettable. For those who don’t see the lights, the campfire, good company, and cozy atmosphere still make the trip worthwhile. The tour wraps up with a relaxed return to Tromsø, usually around 10 pm.
What’s Included and What’s Not

However, it’s important to note that dog sledding is not included, so if that’s your main goal, you’ll need to look elsewhere. Also, there’s no dedicated northern lights chase—the focus is on a comfortable, relaxed viewing experience at the camp, with guides doing their best to spot the aurora if it appears.
Price and Value
At around $171.57 per person, this tour offers good value when you consider the included clothing gear, dinner, and transportation. Multiple reviews mention how the experience exceeded expectations, especially with the delicious local food and engaging guides.
A fabulous activity for dog-lovers. Plenty of time to explore the dog yard at your leisure, with 100+ dogs to meet and fuss. The dogs appear to be relaxed and genuinely enjoy the experience too, with each having the option for quiet time in their kennel, or play with visitors on the yard. Northern lights were the icing on the cake, if you're lucky enough to have clear skies and solar activity whilst there, then this is a brilliant dark location to see them, without venturing too far from Tromsø. Food and drink was also delicious, topped off by campfire and marshmallows. Also… a huge thank you to Tom (one of the staff there) for helping my now fiancée capture images of the moment he got d…
I went mostly for my kids who really love dogs as we couldn't do the dog sleighing. They had a great time! The dogs are super sociable. The dinner (cod fish stew) was really nice and we even saw a mild aurora (the weather wasn't on our side). The kids had a great time slidding down the snowy slopes with mattress sledges!
The husky dogs are gorgeous. I cuddled lots of them! The location is about 30 mins from the centre and it is possible to stay overnight there. It's also a good location to see Northern Lights. It was too cloudy on this night but I didn't mind as I'd seen them the night before. We watched a 10 min film about dog sledding and then we got to meet the dogs. The veggie meal option was couscous and I had hot chocolate to drink. Overall, a very nice experience.
Some note that the price might feel steep compared to other Arctic activities, but for the convenience, warm gear, and the chance to interact closely with huskies, many agree it’s worth it.
The Experience’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Potential Drawbacks:
- No dog sledding included, which might disappoint those specifically wanting that activity
