If you’re dreaming of stepping onto a glacier and trying your hand at ice climbing, then the Sólheimajökull Glacier Walk and Ice Climbing tour might just be your next must-do. It’s a well-rated, small-group adventure that promises a mix of breathtaking scenery, educational insight, and a healthy dose of adrenaline.

From what we’ve seen in reviews and details, this experience offers a genuine taste of Iceland’s wild, icy side—without needing to be a seasoned mountaineer.

Two things we really like about this tour are the personal attention from guides (especially in small groups of up to 12 people) and the chance to get up close and personal with a glacier—something that’s increasingly rare and special.

This was so much fun!! Highly recommend doing this before the glacier melts and you can’t anymore. Although me and my friends had never gone ice pik climbing or glacier hiking, we felt super safe since our guide was very experienced and made sure we were harnessed, had crampons, etc. Thankfully we all had plenty of hiking & skiing experience, which was good because this activity was quite the hike and definitely required some stamina and muscles. There were also folks in our group who had done this before, and they also enjoyed it, so I think this is good both for beginners and those with experience.

We had so much fun on our glacier hike and climb! Maria was an amazing guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about the glacier and taught us a lot. The climb was super fun too, challenging but manageable! There was very little time standing around or waiting for others. Highly recommend!
Natasha P
Lilly was a wonderful guide and did a great job explaining how to ice climb. We enjoyed the experience and the glacier walk.

On the flip side, one thing to consider is that the tour is weather-dependent, so if the conditions aren’t right, it might be canceled or rescheduled. Still, for anyone keen on adventure and eager to see glaciers from the inside out, this tour might be a perfect fit.

This experience suits travelers who are physically comfortable with moderate activity, love learning about natural wonders, and are ready to try something a little different. Whether you’re traveling solo, with a partner, or even with friends who enjoy outdoor adventures, this tour has enough flexibility to make it memorable.

One of the highlights of our trip! We did glacier hiking and ice climbing with Boris on Solheimajokull. Boris was an amazing guide, explaining to us in just the right amount of detail about glaciers. The trail was done with utmost professionalism. Whilst my husband and I were new to ice climbing, we felt completely safe, and got the chance to try two climbs at different locations. We also appreciated the small group size of 5 people (compared to other tours where there seemed to be 10-15 people). Would highly recommend this experience to others looking for a bit of adventure!

We had a great experience going ice climbing for the first time with Hang, our guide. We suited up and walked out to the glacier, where there are some incredible views. Our group was small – 7 total, including 4 of us. We learned how to use our gear and how to climb. Everyone was able to make it to the top and have as many turns as they liked. We also learned a ton about Iceland and the glaciers. Hang made sure to keep us safe as well as give us a personalized experience according to our abilities and needs. Amazing time!

Sam was an amazing glacier guide; very knowledgeable and made our experience fun and comfortable! Having never ice climbed before, we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but Sam encouraged us and made us feel safe. Sólheimajökull is beautiful and we were so glad that we had the opportunity to do this on our first trip to Iceland.

The tour costs around $237.23 per person, which is a fair price given the inclusions—especially the gear, guides, and the chance to do some ice climbing. Reviewers often mention how the experience surpasses their expectations, noting that it’s worth the price for the memories and skills gained.
