Amsterdam: Tulip Fields Day Tour with Lunch & Windmill

Discover vibrant tulip fields, historic windmills, and a delightful Dutch lunch on this 6-hour guided tour from Amsterdam, perfect for nature lovers.

4.9(82 reviews)From $143 per person

If you’re dreaming of the classic Dutch experience—rows of vivid tulips, cozy windmills, and a taste of traditional cuisine—this Tulip Fields Day Tour promises to deliver just that. Hosted by Tulip Tours Holland, it offers a well-organized day out that balances stunning scenery with cultural insights, all within a manageable 6-hour window.

What we really appreciate about this tour is twofold: first, the exclusive access to tulip fields, where you can walk between the flowers, snap incredible photos, and even pick your own bouquet—something not available on all tours. Second, the expert guides from the tulip industry who bring a level of knowledge and enthusiasm that makes the experience engaging and educational.

However, a potential downside is that if you’re visiting late in the season, the tulip blooms might be less spectacular, which is something to consider. Also, at $142 per person, it’s a fair price, but some travelers might find it a bit on the pricier side if they’re budget-conscious.

Both Mike and Roel were so knowledgeable, kind and welcoming. Made for such an enjoyable experience. The fields were lovely and their amount of information was so educational. Highly recommend.

Knowledgeable guides, great places to visit and the food was very nice

Great day seeing 3 tulip farms, and a working windmill. Hosts were lots of fun, bus was not too big (and a nice size group) and lunch was delicious! Highly recommend.

That said, this tour is ideal for anyone who appreciates beautiful landscapes, learning about local agriculture, or simply wants a leisurely outing outside Amsterdam.

If your idea of a perfect day involves colorful flowers, historic windmills, and a hearty Dutch lunch, this experience could be a great fit. It’s especially suited for those who enjoy guided tours, want a taste of authentic Holland, and prefer to leave logistics to someone else.

Amazing day out with Tulip Tours Holland! Our guide Roel was superb with amazing knowledge of the Tulip cycle and the overall farming of Holland. He was friendly, smiley and very approachable as well as the happy bus driver Renee (probably spelt it wrong). Was overall a wholesome day and the food at the buffet was exquisite with amazing Mustard soup!! (Recommended by Roel). All this was included in the trip and no extra costs are needed so it is a wonderful all inclusive day tour! We started at 9:30 and finished around 16:00 so it was a whole day experience which we would absolutely do again with this tour guide!

Guided tours’ success to a large extent depends on the guide. Roel is a great guy. We caught almost the end of Tulip season in the fields, still saw lot of tulips.

It was an amazingggg trip honestly 10/10. I have no complains. We toured three tulip farms, a windmill museum and had lunch in between. Everything was excellent and the tour guide gave us so much insight about the dutch culture and information about tulips. I loved every part of it.

The Departure Point & Convenience

The tour kicks off at Market 27, a restaurant located just a quick metro ride from Amsterdam Central Station. Specifically, it departs from the Noord metro station, reachable via the North-South Line (M52). The short commute makes it an easy start, and the details are straightforward, even if you’re not familiar with the city. A helpful video is available to guide you on how to reach the meeting point.

First Stop: Eastward Scenic Drive & Middlebeemster

From the city, you’ll travel in comfort with a small group, typically no more than 30 people. The journey starts with a scenic 45-minute drive towards Middenbeemster, a picturesque Dutch village. Here, your guides—well-versed in tulip farming—will introduce you to the region’s farming practices and history.

Traveling in a modern bus, you’ll appreciate the relaxed pace, and the scenic drive is a chance to get excited about what’s ahead. The reviews suggest that guides like Mike and Roel make a real difference; their kindness and deep knowledge elevate the experience. One review highlights how Mike’s expertise about tulip cultivation and history made the visit even more engaging.

Tulip Fields & Photography Opportunities

Next, the real highlight begins. You’ll visit three separate tulip fields, each offering a chance to walk between the flowers, breathe in the fragrance, and capture unforgettable photos. The experience of walking through the tulips—being surrounded by endless colorful blooms—is genuinely special and not something you get to do every day.

Daria
It was fantastic! With professional help of our guide and his deep knowledge of tulip growing process, exceptional lunch and positive energetic atmosphere overall, I couldn’t wish for a better experience! Thank you, again!
Marina
We loved visiting different fields, seeing different stages of tulip growing, learning about the industry from our guide Mike who grew up on a tulip farm. Even though we caught the end of the tulip season, we still had a wonderful experience and saw plenty of colorful flowers. Lunch was nice and the mustard soup was delicious. Mike and Ellen were the best guide and driver we could ask for. The van was very comfortable. Don’t hesitate to book this tour if you get a chance.

Learned more than I ever imagined I would about 17th century windmills and tulip farming. The lunch was really great, too. So glad we went and got so many amazing photos at the windmills and in the tulip fields. The only issue was it was for 6-hours and it was just a little over 5, so I am guessing we had good traffic.

The tour offers exclusive access, meaning you’re walking in between the flowers and not just viewing from a distance. You also have the chance to pick your own tulip to take home, a lovely souvenir that adds a personal touch to your day.

One reviewer mentioned how their guide helped them take incredible photos and that the fields were in bloom even late in the season, which speaks to the quality of the experience.

Scenic Viewpoints & Photo Stops

Between the tulip farms, there are carefully planned stops at viewpoints and historic sites. One notable stop is at a windmill from 1633, where you can learn about traditional Dutch milling, meet the miller, and explore inside. It’s a chance to see a working windmill, which adds a layer of authenticity and charm.

Another stop in a scenic area offers panoramic views and photo opportunities. These pauses are well-spaced, giving you time to soak in the surroundings and snap pictures without feeling rushed—something reviews confirm is appreciated.

I booked this trip for my Mum who turned 85 last November. She had always wanted to see the canals of Amsterdam and tulip fields. Roel our guide was wonderful and very knowledgable. The bus we travelled was extremely clean and comfortable and our driver, whose name I unfortunately am unable to remember was great, a really lovely guy and did a great job transporting us safely on our day trip. Visiting the working windmill was a great experience. The lunch we had at De Zeedijk Grand Cafe was wonderful, a really very nice spread was put on for us all. And, of course, the tulip fields were stunning. My Mum and I had an amazing day! I highly recommend this trip.

Is It Worth the Price?

Amsterdam: Tulip Fields Day Tour with Lunch & Windmill - Is It Worth the Price?

At $142 per person, this tour offers a lot—guided access to private tulip fields, a traditional windmill experience, a hearty lunch, and comfortable transportation. When you break down the value, you’re paying for a curated, educational experience with insider access that would be difficult to organize alone.

Chris
Very comfortable bus, Mike the guide was excellent and very knowledgable.
Leslie
My tulip tour with Mike and Tulip Tours Holland was PERFECT! The pace was great, the lunch stop was delightful, and the fields were absolutely gorgeous. This tour goes north (where Obama visited in 2023) instead of south and we did not deal with crowds at all! The private tour size was perfect and the van was comfortable. The windmills and beautiful scenery were all added bonuses. You will not regret booking this tour!

The tour of the tulip fields was amazing, I highly recommend it. It is a much higher level of beauty than the famous Keukenhof gardens, a private tour away from the crowds. It was worth every penny invested. The guide Roel, who has years of experience with tulips, gave great explanations, made sure everyone was enjoying the tour the whole time and the best part was that he helped us take incredible photos!!! It was great to enjoy the tulip fields without entering private farms without authorization, as many tourists do. On the tour, the producers were totally in agreement with our visit!!!

The reviews consistently praise the value for money, especially considering the quality of guides, the scenery, and the included meals.

What Travelers Say About the Experience

Many reviewers point out how guides like Mike and Roel made the trip memorable, often describing them as friendly, caring, and full of insights. The chance to walk among the tulips, take photos, and pick your own flower makes this tour stand out.

One review mentions, “The process of tulip farming was explained well by Roel, and the windmill visit was fascinating,” emphasizing how educational and immersive it is. Others highlight the delicious lunch and the absence of crowds, making the experience feel intimate and personal.

Downsides to Consider

While the tour is highly praised, it’s worth noting that if you’re visiting late in the season, the tulip fields might not be at their peak. Plus, the price might be a barrier for budget travelers. Also, because the day involves some long drives and walking, those with mobility issues should confirm accessibility, although the bus and windmill visits are generally manageable.

Who Is This Tour Best Suited For?

Amsterdam: Tulip Fields Day Tour with Lunch & Windmill - Who Is This Tour Best Suited For?

This experience is great for nature lovers, flower enthusiasts, and anyone interested in experiencing authentic Dutch scenery without the hassle of planning. It’s ideal for travelers who value guided insights and want to see multiple tulip farms, not just the famous Keukenhof gardens.

It's also a good pick for those who appreciate local culture—the inclusion of windmill visits and regional food makes it more than just a flower tour. The small group setting and expert guides tend to make the day more relaxed and friendly than a large, noisy bus trip.

If you’re traveling alone, with a partner, or even with a small group of friends, you’ll likely enjoy the personalized attention and fewer crowds. Families with older children might find the pace suitable, but younger kids might find it less engaging unless they love flowers and history.
