Thinking about adding a charming day trip to your Geneva itinerary? This Annecy half-day tour from Keytours offers a chance to explore one of France’s most picturesque towns just a short ride away. Whether you’re after a scenic escape, a taste of medieval architecture, or some leisurely lakeside moments, this trip might just fit the bill.

What we really like about this experience? First, the expert-guided walking tour brings the colorful streets and historic landmarks of Annecy alive. Second, the free time for exploration and shopping means you can soak up the town at your own pace. Yet, it’s worth noting that, being a half-day outing, the time in town is limited — especially if you’re craving a full day to relax and explore.

This tour suits travelers who appreciate scenic drives, want a snapshot of a fairy-tale town, and enjoy guided insights. If your goal is a quick but memorable taste of the Alps and French lakeside charm, this could be a good fit. Just keep in mind, if you’re aiming for a more in-depth visit, you might find the schedule a little tight.

Annecy is a very beautiful town. The canals are clean and beautiful. We enjoyed our trip. Viator was very unhelpful when I booked the wrong day and I was made to pay twice when I cancelled and rebooked. That was very disappointing.
Poppi H
Fantastic place and great tour. Gabriel was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly!

It was a last minute trip. Nice to not think about where to go because there are no stops on the bus. 75 francs was the last minute price for the geneve to annecy tour. Flix bus was about 15 francs each way also last minute. The tour was very short so maybe it's better to take Flix bus and then a separate tour guide in annecy. However, the tour guide for swiss tours (Arnault) was very nice and definitely cared about our learning. Perhaps they could expand by 1 more hour to allow some more time in annecy.

Enjoyable side trip from Geneva to Annecy. Our guide Hector was very knowledgeable and struck a nice balance of informing enough without too much. We appreciated the flexibility in Annecy with the option for a short 30 minute guided tour or choosing to explore without a guide.

Once in Annecy, the guided portion kicks off with a one-hour walking tour of the Old Town. The guide points out the colorful, flower-filled balconies and medieval buildings that give Annecy its fairytale charm. As you stroll cobbled streets, you’ll get to see the famous Palais de l’Isle, a 12th-century castle sitting on a small canal island, which many consider the town’s most iconic photo spot.

One reviewer even noted, “Snap some pictures of the Palais de l’Isle, a 12th-century castle that’s a symbol of the town,” highlighting how photogenic this spot is.

Exploring the Landmarks

The tour continues with a visit to Château d’Annecy, a hilltop fortress that offers sweeping views of the lake and surrounding Alps. Inside, you can browse exhibits on the town’s history, models of Alpine chalets, and panels about Lake Annecy.

From reviews, it sounds like this part of the tour adds both context and visual interest, though some travelers find the time in town a bit tight to explore thoroughly.

We enjoyed the trip very much. The tour guide was very nice. He explained the history of the places that we visited. We had a wonderful time in Switzerland.
Sandy
On reaching Annecy, the tour guide just went on his own after disembarking from the bus with no effort to get the group together to follow his lead, leaving half of the tour party on their own. We had to explore the town using google maps. Truly my first bad experience with booking tours with Viator.

Free Time to Wander and Shop

After the guided tour, the remaining part of your day is yours. You’re encouraged to explore independently, which many reviews describe as a highlight — whether it’s browsing local markets, trying crepes, or just wandering along the lake. Some travelers mention enjoying the market day, with one saying, “Market days do add a special touch, and I was glad I got to enjoy it!”

Food and Entrance Fees

It’s important to note that lunch isn’t included in the tour price, so you’ll want to plan for a quick bite or bring snacks. Entrance to Château d’Annecy costs €12, which is not included in the price (roughly $12 USD). Many reviews mention the value for money at the $93 price point, especially considering the guided insights, transportation, and the chance to see a stunning Alpine town.

Beautiful city only 45 minutes from Geneva. Lots of bridges and waterways, very picturesque. Would have been nice to have stayed an extra hour on the tour to have enjoyed sitting in a cafe having lunch etc.

Absolutely fabulous morning in beautiful Annecy. Tour guide was great too. We managed to fit in a boat trip to take in the beautiful lake. I can’t fault this trip.

Several mention how picturesque and charming Annecy is, with phrases like “Annecy and the drive there are beautiful,” and “Annecy is a fairytale village.” Even those who experienced some limitations, like shortened visits during busy days or Carnival crowds, still overall enjoyed the trip, highlighting its reliability and scenic appeal.

One reviewer summed it up: “This is a half-day excursion worth taking. Annecy is exquisite with stunning scenery and architecture, and the tour guide made the trip so interesting.” Conversely, a few felt the time was a bit short, or that an extra activity like a boat ride would have elevated the experience.

Beautiful community with lots of bridges & small alleys with many outdoor cafes… a very pleasant visit

The old town is charming and fairly small. Some of the hills are steep but worth it and the lake is beautiful as well.
