Thinking about trying something different on your trip to Istanbul? This cooking experience hosted in a local’s home might be just what you’re looking for. Rather than a typical tour or a crowded cooking class, this one offers a cozy, genuine peek into Turkish culinary life, guided by someone who truly loves sharing her culture.
What we love about this experience is how personal and relaxed it feels. You get to cook authentic dishes, sip Turkish tea and coffee, and share stories with your host—creating a genuine connection. Plus, the food is reportedly delicious and hearty, making it a tasty highlight of any trip.
That said, a potential consideration is the location and transportation—it’s not in the heart of Old Town, so depending on your plans, you might need extra time to reach it. Also, if you’re not a fan of furry friends, the shared home with the host’s cat and dog might be a small hurdle.
Lovely afternoon with hosts and good cooking lesson and delicious food. My only suggestion is to in lude in description how far away it is from where most tourists stay (Central -Kadikoy, Karakoy etc) it took us an hour to get there in non- rush hour traffic and almost 2 hours to get back to Kadikoy in rush hour
I really enjoyed my time learning Turkish dishes! I learned baba ghanoush, cacik, and patatesli kofte, all vegetarian by request. All the dishes were so yummy and fun to prepare, and the baba ghanoush was my favorite because I’ve been wanting to learn how to make it for awhile now. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone visiting Istanbul 😊
One of the highlights of turkey was this class, I wanted to learn how to cook Turkish food at my home after this class I feel more confident in cooking Turkish food. Highly recommend making the trip to there home.
Overall, if you’re after an experience that combines food, culture, and warm hospitality, and you’re okay with a bit of travel to get there, this could be a memorable part of your Istanbul visit.
