Exploring Brussels with a Food Lover’s Perspective

If you’re thinking about a way to truly get a feel for Brussels beyond just sightseeing, a private food tour like this one offering 10 tastings sounds like a perfect fit. While I haven’t experienced this specific tour myself, plenty of travelers have praised it for its delicious offerings and intimate local insights. What we really like about it is how it combines authentic Belgian bites with a walk through the city’s scenic streets, giving you a taste of both the food and the culture.
One standout is the focus on classic Belgian favorites—think crispy fries and rich chocolates—paired with stories about their significance. Plus, the fact that it’s a private experience means you’re not just another face in a crowded group. However, a consideration worth noting is that this tour isn’t designed for people with mobility issues or wheelchair users, which might matter if that applies to you.
Su was an excellent guide!! She walked us around the city center and we got to try sea food, fries, beer, chocolate, waffles, and tea/coffee! She was knowledgeable about Brussels history and landmarks and was so kind. She brought along a friend and it felt like we were just out with friends around town. Highly recommend!
We had such an excellent experience with Su. She was immediately warm and friendly. It was like visiting a friend and having them show you around. She loves Brussels and it shows in her tour. She shared with us about local history but also chatted with us and got to know us. The food was amazing and the perfect amount to share. We did the tour on our first day in Brussels and it was an excellent way to become oriented to the city and find points of interest. When we go back to some of those places, we’ll remember what she shared and the history or significance of the buildings, etc. Would definitely recommend this tour to find great places to eat and to learn about Brussels. A Deep Dive into What the Tour Offers

This 3-hour private food tour is designed to give you a comprehensive taste of Brussels in a manageable, enjoyable way. It’s centered around 10 tastings, which means you’ll sample everything from savory to sweet foods, including local drinks. It’s a well-rounded approach that ensures you’re getting a genuine glimpse of Belgian culinary delights.
The Food Highlights
What truly makes this tour stand out is the chance to try Belgian classics like authentic fries and chocolates at local hotspots. These aren’t just any snacks—they’re carefully chosen to reflect what Belgians hold dear. For example, visitors often rave about visiting a kiosk that double fries the frites, producing that perfect crispy texture. One guest mentioned, “The frites were amazing!” which really emphasizes the quality of this staple.
Another favorite is sampling Belgian chocolates in their pure, local flavor. Visiting an authentic chocolate shop allows you to witness how Belgium’s famous chocolates are made and, of course, taste some of the best. A reviewer described the experience as “visiting seafood stores with delicious mussels,” highlighting how the tour includes a variety of local flavors.
City Highlights and Cultural Context
Beyond just the food, your guide will point out key spots like La Bourse, Saint Gery, and the Impasses (or Culs-de-sac). These are not only scenic or historically interesting but also add context to your bites—understanding why certain neighborhoods or landmarks matter enriches the experience.
Several reviews mention how guides like Su and Steph make all the difference. They’re described as warm, knowledgeable, and engaging, making the tour feel more like a friendly exploration than a structured event. One review states, “It was like visiting a friend who loves Brussels,” which captures the personal touch guides bring.
What better way to start the tour off at the oldest pub and enjoying a Belgium beer! Our favorite part was visiting a seafood store that made the most delicious mussels. There is another seafood store directly across that is also good. Then she took us to a kiosk that double fried the "frites". Amazing! We had other local favorite samplings. We really enjoyed our local food tour with Steph, he was such an welcoming, knowledgeable and entertaining person to show us around. Highly recommended!!
Our tour guide was fun and energetic. She provided good information and took us to some amazing food vendors!
The Value in Price
At $178 per person, this tour is priced on the higher side for a 3-hour experience, but considering the private group setting and the 10 tastings, many find it reasonable. The tastings are curated to be satisfying, and the tour provides a good introduction for first-timers or those who want to avoid tourist traps.
