Planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas and wondering how to make the most of its incredible marine scenery? This half-day kayaking and snorkeling tour to Santa Maria and Chileno Bay might just be what you’re looking for. It’s a solid choice for anyone wanting a mix of relaxing paddling, vibrant underwater sights, and a taste of Cabo’s famed coastal beauty—all in just three hours.
What we love about this tour is how accessible it is for a wide range of travelers. The glass-bottom kayaks offer a unique perspective, letting you see marine life without even getting wet, and the two snorkeling stops give plenty of chances to spot colorful fish, coral reefs, and maybe even a turtle or two. Plus, the friendly guides are often praised for their knowledge and care, making the experience feel safe and fun.
One thing to keep in mind is that weather can impact the plans—if it’s too windy or rough, the tour might be modified or rescheduled. That’s pretty common in water-based activities, but it’s worth noting if you’re counting on a specific schedule or are sensitive to choppy waters. Still, for those who enjoy a good adventure with a touch of unpredictability, this tour can be quite rewarding.
Carlos and Nacho were excellent. We got picked up right on time in the exact spot. The weather was windy so they modified our plan a bit but they were open to the original plan if we wanted to do it. Our group trusted their opinion on the modified plan and it was great. They took care of all the manual stuff with the kayaks and safely took us out to the arch and snorkeling beach. I was thankful for Carlos expertise because the current was swift that day and he kept us safe. Some of the groups out there didn’t have good guides and they were getting swept away. Would highly recommend them for any of their excursions.
We liked the Santa Maria Bay, the snorkeling was the best I've seen in a while even when we went in the afternoon when the water is a little rougher. We didn't kayak due to rough waters between the two bays. Instead we went to the dry riverbed and did a hike to a spring. It was very cool. The only thing that was stressful at the end was that we barely made our tender boat back to the cruise at 7pm. But thanks to Carlos and Louie we made the second to last tender boat.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We had the best time with Carlos!! Our two boys (14 and 10) loved every minute. The kayaking was amazing around the bays and snorkeling in Chilleno Bay was perfect. We saw so many fish and the conditions were perfect. Carlos was the best guide and we can’t wait to book again. Highly recommend!!
This experience is best suited for travelers who enjoy outdoor activities, want a quick but fulfilling taste of Cabo’s marine life, and appreciate a guided, all-included setup. It’s especially good if you’re traveling with family, friends, or solo and looking for a memorable, well-organized excursion without spending a whole day on the water.

Convenient Pickup and Equipment Setup
The tour kicks off with hotel pickup in San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, or along the corridor—making it pretty stress-free to start your adventure. Once you’re picked up, you’ll be transported to Santa Maria Bay, where all the gear is ready and waiting. The organization here is generally praised, with many reviewers mentioning prompt pickups and smooth check-in.
Santa Maria Bay: Calm Waters & Vibrant Marine Life
Your first stop is Santa Maria Bay, a classic Cabo snorkeling spot. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, this bay offers calm, shallow waters that are perfect for snorkeling, even for beginners. It’s a fantastic introduction to Cabo’s underwater scenery, with colorful reefs and schools of tropical fish. One reviewer loved that the snorkeling was “the best I’ve seen in a while,” even when the water was a little rougher in the afternoon.
Here, you get to see a variety of marine creatures including fish, sea urchins, and possibly eels or turtles if luck is on your side. The calmness of the bay also makes it a safer, more relaxed environment to learn or practice your snorkeling skills.
Glass-Bottom Kayaking: A Different Perspective
After snorkeling, you’ll switch to glass-bottom kayaks—a highlight that sets this tour apart. These kayaks allow you to paddle along the surface and look down through the transparent hull at the marine life swimming beneath you. It’s an engaging way to enjoy the water without needing to be a strong swimmer or worry about gear. Many guests rave about the views, especially when schools of fish dart below the kayak.
Guides typically handle the manual work, making sure everyone stays safe and comfortable. As one reviewer noted, “Carlos and Nacho were excellent,” and they even adjusted their plans when weather conditions turned windy, showing genuine flexibility and care.
Unfortunately the winds were too high in the afternoon to be able to kayak to the other bay. The snorkeling was good, but make sure you wear water shoes, especially to Santa Maria bay because the small rocks are murder on the feet. The guys did the best they could given our situation.
Went to one bay and was told it was Chileno but found out next day on a tour with Cabo Adventures that it was actually Santa Maria. Snorkeling was fantastic. We didn’t see any whales or other wildlife. Would suggest they already have the gear with kayaks unloaded on beach before arriving in order to save time especially if cruise trip passengers have to be back by 2pm.
We only ended up snorkeling in Chileno Bay (we were under the impression you snorkelled twice) but it was a great experience – we saw so many fish and overall had a great time.
Chileno Bay: Tidal Pools & Scenic Snorkeling
Next, you'll head to Chileno Bay, one of Cabo’s top snorkeling spots, known for its tidal pools and finger reefs. This area teems with tropical fish, and the shallow, protected waters make it easy to explore. If you’re lucky, you might see sea turtles, which are often spotted here.
The scenery en route is also a highlight—craggy cliffs and ocean views make the journey as enjoyable as the stops. Many guests appreciate the time spent relaxing on Chileno’s sandy beach after snorkeling—perfect for unwinding with a snack or just soaking up the sun.

Optional Extra: Exploring Tidal Pools
Some travelers, like one review mentioned, chose to skip kayaking due to rougher waters and instead did a short hike to a spring, which they found "very cool." While this isn’t officially part of the tour, it shows that the area offers more than just water activities, and guides can often accommodate such requests.
Return and Drop-off
After about an hour at Chileno Bay, the group relaxes for a short break before heading back to your hotel. The total activity lasts around three hours, including transportation, which is a nice, manageable chunk of time if you’re balancing other Cabo activities.
Is It Worth the Price?

At around $100 per person, this tour offers a balanced mix of equipment, guides, and time. Given the included snorkeling gear, kayak, refreshments, and the convenience of pickup and drop-off, it’s a good value, especially for first-timers or those wanting a safe, guided experience.
While some reviews mention that weather can affect the experience—sometimes making kayaking less feasible—the guides generally do a good job of adjusting plans or offering an alternative activity. If you’re someone who loves being on the water and seeing marine life up close, many find this worth the cost.
The Real Experience: What Travelers Say

Many reviewers highlight the quality of guides like Carlos, praising their expertise and attentiveness. For example, one wrote, “Carlos kept us safe in swift currents and was very knowledgeable,” adding that guides make a big difference in how enjoyable and safe the experience feels.
Snorkeling in Santa Maria Bay consistently gets high marks—"the snorkeling was fantastic," being a common refrain. Guests love that they get multiple opportunities to see different marine habitats in one tour, making it a worthwhile half-day activity.
Weather challenges are a recurring theme—wind and rough waters can limit kayaking or snorkeling, but most guides handle these situations professionally, offering reschedules or alternative plans.
Who Should Consider This Tour?

This experience really suits travelers looking for a relaxed yet engaging water activity in Cabo. It’s great for those who want to see marine life without diving deep or spending hours on the water. It’s also family-friendly for kids over 6, provided they’re comfortable in water, and the guided nature ensures safety.
If you’re after a more adventurous or secluded experience, you might prefer longer or more specialized tours. But for a quick, scenic, and educational taste of Cabo’s underwater treasures, this one hits the mark.
The Sum Up

It’s particularly suitable for travelers who value safety, convenience, and seeing vibrant marine life without needing prior experience. The flexible plans due to weather are a plus, and many guests leave feeling they got their money’s worth thanks to the stunning views and professional guides.
While weather can sometimes be a factor, most find that the tour’s highlights—beautiful bays, lively reefs, and friendly guides—more than compensate.
