Exploring Turkey’s Past: Full-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour Review

Canakkale: Full-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour - Exploring Turkey’s Past: Full-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour Review

If you’re planning a trip to Turkey and especially if history is your thing, this Canakkale: Full-Day Troy and Gallipoli Tour might just tick the boxes. It promises a long but enriching day that combines the legendary ruins of Troy with the poignant World War I battlefields of Gallipoli—all in one go. The fact that it’s rated 4.8 out of 5 from 65 reviews suggests most travelers find it worth their while.

What we really like about this tour is how it combines two very different historical eras: the mythic tales of Troy, with its legendary walls and the infamous Trojan War, and the somber, reflective sites of Gallipoli, where stories of sacrifice and military strategy unfold. Plus, the tour is well-regarded for its knowledgeable guides and seamless organization. On the flip side, it’s a full 10-hour day, so you’ll want to be prepared for the long haul and early starts.

Very well organised. Crowded House do a lot of tours and during the off season, these often end up being combined. So it was great to see some very well planned coordination between all guides and drivers! Troy was nice, but the highlight for me was definitely Gallipoli!

The Troy guide was very in tune with his brief. Without his professionalism and knowledge, what we witnessed would have just been a pile of rocks, and it people in on this tour ill informed, ignorant of the facts,, without serious in depth detail that made this tour of Troy a vey enjoyable exercise. The guide for Gallipoli was not of the same personality, nevertheless keep his group together and updated on the vital history that took place here. There is probably no other way to organise this tour, but constantly getting out, then back into the mini bus was a drain on one’s patience.’ Overall a great day out from Canakkale. Well worth the effort.
Tess
We had the best time, our guides Cindy and Charlie were so knowledgeable and absolutely brilliant! Fantastic experience.

One thing to keep in mind is that Troy today is mostly ruins—so while you’ll get a good sense of its ancient significance, it’s not a lush cityscape. Also, since the tour involves some walking around archaeological sites and battlefields, it’s not ideal for everyone, especially those with mobility issues. Still, if you’re okay with a busy schedule and want a rundown, this experience fits travelers eager for history, culture, and a bit of reflection. It’s especially suited for history buffs, couples, or small groups who like guided insights.
