If you’re considering a day trip to Sicily’s most iconic natural wonder, the Mount Etna Tour with Lunch offers an engaging experience that combines geology, stunning landscapes, and delicious local flavors. This 6-hour guided journey is designed for those who want a comprehensive look at Europe’s most active volcano without the hassle of planning every detail.
What we really appreciate about this tour is the expert guidance — many reviews highlight how knowledgeable and friendly the guides are, making the experience more enriching and approachable. Plus, the opportunity to walk around dormant craters and see the lava fields up close adds an adventurous touch that many travelers cherish.
However, it’s worth noting that the tour may feel a bit rushed at times and involves some vehicle transfers, which might not suit travelers who prefer a purely hiking-focused day or those with mobility issues. But overall, this tour is a fantastic fit for those craving a balanced mix of geology, scenery, and Sicilian culture in a manageable half-day outing.
The guides are definitely a plus, knowledgable, friendly and engaging. The tour itself was easy, with a few stops. Our guide (Raul if I remember well) was a good driver and gave explanations in an entertaining way in three languages (we were a group of 5 plus 2 guides in one car). He could answer most of my questions (and I had many…). I also opted previously for a lunch mainly to have a community experience but it turned out that I was the only one in the car who signed up for it so ended to eat alone in a restaurant with a nice view and missed one hour of the tour. The lunch was 30 EUR plus and the food was good but way too much so for me it made the tour less cost effective. The car its…
The guide and tour was fun and in particular Reggie our guide tried hard to ensure everyone in the family were well taken care of. Pity it snowed so unexpectedly heavy and we could not see the crater. But everything ended well and we did enjoy seeing outside of Catania!
We had Ortazio Romano as our main guide and driver. As well as his co-worker Fabio. Both were very informative and took us to places that no other tourists were to be found (until the location where the tour buses collected.) Our trip included lunch and we asked both to join us (at our expense) as they would have been left to grab a sandwich on their own. We had a lovely discussion during a lovely and abundant lunch which included sports and international politics. Both were well informed. The walks on the lava extensions, into the caves and along the crater rim (of volcano #3) were super interesting.
This experience is especially suitable for first-time visitors to Etna, curious travelers who want a guided overview, and anyone eager to enjoy some authentic regional food and wine amid spectacular volcanic scenery. If you’re after a well-organized and informative tour with comfortable logistics, this one’s worth considering.

Luca was wonderful – he was so informative and went at a great pace for us. He gave us details but also saw where we were interested and allowed us to experience that. The entire day was organized so well and became the highlight of our trip. We felt lucky that Luca was our guide!
Our guide Alessio was really knowledgeable and great to chat with. He gave us lots of information along the way, and also was great with our children who asked him a million questions. The lunch was lovely too before we returned back. We all really enjoyed our day and the visit to Etna.

More Great Tours NearbyLava Cave & Torch Adventure
A fun part of the tour is exploring a lava flow cave. Carrying a torch, you’ll walk inside this natural formation, which adds a sense of exploration and adventure. This experience is straightforward and accessible, but do keep in mind that it involves some walking on uneven terrain.
Our guide Stefano was an amaizing man. He tells us many interesting and funny things. Tasting of vine and honey was a nice experience. Lunch was delicious. Views were breathtaking. I recommend everyone who want to explorez but don't know how to start!
would def recommend. kevin is a great and fun guide
We were a small group of 6 plus our guide, Luca. It was an extremely enjoyable and relaxed tour thanks mainly to the interaction with Luca and the other tour members. The lunch was very good too.
Lunch at 2000 Meters: A Volcanic Feast
A key highlight for many is the lunch at 2000 meters altitude. Here, you get to taste local Sicilian products, which often include regional cheeses, honey, and the famous wines of the area. Reviewers consistently praise the quality and abundance of the food, noting that it’s a great way to relax and socialize after the morning’s excursions.
Some guests mention that the lunch feels generous, with plenty of food and drinks, making it good value. However, a few mention that the lunch adds a €30 cost on top of the tour and might be more than some want to eat, especially if they prefer lighter meals.
The Overall Experience
Many reviews love the guides. One reviewer said, “The guides are definitely a plus, knowledgable, friendly, and engaging,” which really sums up the overall tone of this tour. Guides tend to speak multiple languages, making it accessible for international visitors.
Others appreciated the small group size, which they say makes the experience more intimate and personalized. With groups limited to six, you’ll likely find it easier to ask questions and spend quality time at each stop.
The communication regarding pick up was clear. guide: kevin was a lovely young man and explained things very well and did not rush anyone.
Wonderful tour with so much information shared by out guide. Frequent stops for pictures and loves that the size of the group was so small – only six of us.
This was a fantastic tour! Our guide, Kevin, was very personable and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Etna history and geology, as well as Sicilian culture. The tour was well paced, with several crater stops and a wonderful wine, oil, honey, olive, etc., tasting at mid-morning, and a three-course lunch at the last stop. I booked this tour to let my family, who was visiting from the US, experience Etna; in a 10-day tour of five Sicilian towns, this excursion was my sister’s favorite. Definitely worth the price!
What Could Be Better?
While most travelers love the tour, some note that the vehicle comfort isn’t top-of-the-line, and the pace can feel a bit hurried, especially if you enjoy more walking or exploring at your own pace. Also, the walks are somewhat limited; if you’re hoping for a hiking-focused day, this might not fully satisfy.
A reviewer mentioned, “I was expecting a bit more walk,” suggesting that if physical activity is a priority, you might want to consider other options. Also, those with mobility limitations should be aware that the tour isn’t suitable for wheelchair users or people with significant mobility impairments.
Is This Tour Worth It?

Considering the price, the tour offers excellent value — combining transportation, expert guiding, multiple scenic stops, and a meal of regional specialties. The small group setting enhances the experience, making it more tailored and less touristy.
The reviews consistently praise the knowledgeability and friendliness of the guides, which can make a big difference in how much you learn and enjoy the day. The stunning views and opportunities to walk on volcanic terrain are unforgettable for geology buffs or lovers of dramatic landscapes.
Enjoyed all five stages of the tour. Started at the base, drove up to the ORO d Etna honey winery, went to a lookout (great for pics), went down into a cave, and ended at the mountain top for exploration. We then proceeded to lunch on Etna. Great day, and hats off to our wonderful guide!!!
Tour guide, Alessio, was knowledgeable and added a lot of value to the trip. Would definitely recommend.
However, if you're someone who prefers long, strenuous hikes or needs assistance with mobility, this might not be the best fit. The tour is designed more as a rundown with some light walking rather than an all-out adventure.
Who Should Consider This Tour?

This tour is ideal for first-time visitors to Etna who want a structured, informative experience without the hassle of planning every detail. It’s also great for those who enjoy a blend of scenery, culture, and food, and appreciate guides who can bring the landscape to life with stories and explanations.
Travelers who enjoy small group settings will find this appealing, as it allows for more interaction and personalized attention. If you're eager to taste regional wines and products while surrounded by volcanic landscapes, this tour hits those marks well.
