Amazing experience and very insightful. A romantic calling!
Tal
Beautiful music and excellent musicians. I enjoyed the evening, a special experience to have in Coimbra. The explanations in English were very helpful. The place is quite cosy with great acoustics.

However, one potential consideration is the duration—at only 50 minutes, it’s a bit on the shorter side. So if you’re used to more elaborate shows or want a longer culture, this might feel like a quick peek rather than a deep dive. That said, it’s great for those with limited time or travelers who want a concentrated, authentic taste of Coimbra’s musical soul.

Overall, if your idea of travel includes discovering authentic local traditions in a relaxed setting, this Fado show could be a highlight. It’s well-suited for anyone curious about Portuguese music, culture lovers, or those wanting a meaningful experience without a hefty price tag.

We attended the Fado event in Coimbra, and it was a truly beautiful and authentic experience. The performance was of high quality and managed to bring Portuguese culture even closer to us, while at the same time transporting everyone back in time. The only downside was the screen hanging above the stage. While it projected images for the audience to see and complemented the performance, it created a very bright background in the otherwise dimly lit setting, which made photographing the event more difficult. Overall, it was a memorable evening and a wonderful way to connect with the tradition of Fado in its historical setting.
Brian
The quality of the music and the dialogue was excellent!

I absolutely LOVE this experience – this was the third time I've gone in one year! 😀 The fado from Coimbra is absolutely beautiful – more gentle than the fado from Lisbon, I think. João Farinha explains the art in superb English, while he and Francisco Costa (my favourite) sing the beautiful ballads, accompanied by superb Coimbra guitarists. The port and chat at the end is a pleasant way to end the evening. Well-worth a visit!!!
