The Katherine Gorge Cruise: A Highlight of the Day

The two-hour Katherine Gorge cruise is undoubtedly the centerpiece. Carved by the Katherine River, these gorges are famous for their towering cliffs—some reaching 70 meters—and the stunning play of light on the sandstone. As you glide through the water, you’ll get close-up views of ancient rock formations and spot native wildlife, including birds, reptiles, and perhaps even a crocodile, as some reviews mention. Guides share cultural stories and Dreamtime legends of the Jawoyn people, giving this scenic ride a deeper significance that many travelers appreciate.

Edith Falls: A Refreshing Break

After the gorge cruise, the tour heads to Edith Falls—also called Leliyn—where you can enjoy a peaceful, natural setting. The tiered waterfalls cascade into a tranquil plunge pool, which is perfect for a swim, especially on hot days. Many reviews emphasize how the swim at Edith Falls is a highlight, with some describing it as a “life experience.” Even if swimming isn’t your thing, the surroundings invite you to relax on the banks, take photos, or explore the area on foot.

Fantastic day the gorge was beautiful, we spotted a crocodile while on the boat, the guide Jason was knowledgable and gave so much info. The swim at Edith falls was nice as it was a hot day, the creek was a highlight. Take note it is a very long day spending 10+ hours on a bus but it’s worth it and comfortable.
