If you’re considering a day on the water in Cozumel, the El Cielo Beach Snorkeling Adventure by catamaran might catch your eye. It’s a popular choice for travelers looking to combine relaxing boat rides with the chance to see vibrant marine life and enjoy a few hours in the sun. The tour promises beautiful shallow waters packed with starfish, rays, and colorful fish, plus an opportunity to visit a turtle sanctuary.

What we really appreciate about this experience is its straightforward nature—it’s a well-rounded trip that offers both guided snorkeling stops and plenty of leisure time on a comfortable boat. The crew’s reputation for friendliness and safety is also a big plus, according to many travelers. However, it’s worth noting that this tour isn’t perfect—some reviews mention issues like equipment quality and the refund policy.

Overall, it’s best suited for those who want a relaxed, guided day with easy access to the coast’s underwater highlights, especially if you’re traveling with a group or family and prefer a hassle-free experience. If you’re after a more adventurous or exclusive outing, this might not be the right fit. But if soaking up the sun, spotting starfish, and enjoying good company sound appealing, this trip could be a solid choice.

The whole family was pleased with this excursion. The snorkeling views and instructors were very safe and knowledgeable. They helped us and we saw a nurse shark, multiple sting rays, one small jelly fish, barracuda, sea turtles, and many many fish. The food and drinks were fabulous and so so fresh. Best ceviche we had on the whole trip.

Absolutely the best boat tour we’ve ever taken. There were 4 stops, generous tequila shots on board, and though we got on the water a bit late due to a handicapped individual and trying to get his chair on the boat, they did not rush us and actually we got in late, having had gotten an extra hour out of the excursion. This was a stellar trip!

this was a great experience. The guides were great, and we really enjoyed all the sites that we were able to see.! the weather was beautiful we could not have asked for a better experience

The Itinerary Breakdown

Your day begins at the Marina Cozumel ASIPONA, where the friendly staff will meet you around 9:30am. The group size is capped at 27, so it’s not overly crowded, allowing for a somewhat personalized vibe. After a quick safety briefing, you’ll board the well-maintained catamaran that sets sail along the coast of Cozumel.

The first stop is typically at a renowned reef—likely Columbia Reef or El Cielo—where you’ll have roughly 45 minutes to snorkel. This spot is famed for its shallow waters and the chance to float amongst starfish and other marine creatures. Reviewers like Jennifer_J mention how beautiful the weather was and how much they enjoyed “all the sites” they saw, which includes the reef and marine life.

Next, you’ll cruise along the coast, taking in the views of Cozumel’s shoreline from the water. During this ride, many find it relaxing to just kick back, listen to music, or sip on the complimentary drinks—beers, soft drinks, bottled water, and even margaritas are available. Some reviewers, like Nikkita_B, note that while the entertainment and crew were fun, the food and drinks could be better, though they were sufficient for a day on the water.

The final snorkeling stop is at Turtle Bay, where you can observe and learn about the turtle sanctuary. This is especially great if you’re interested in conservation or just want to see these gentle creatures up close.

Snorkeling and Marine Life

The reef stops are the core of the tour. You’ll snorkel in shallow waters that are perfect for beginners or those who prefer to stay close to the surface. The water is clear and inviting, and you’ll see starfish in their natural habitat—a real highlight, as many reviews rave about. Mammiyoko_C and SBFREED1120 both mention how the crew is accommodating and friendly, making the snorkeling experience smooth and enjoyable.

The Boat and Crew

The vessel itself is described as roomy, clean, and well-maintained. Many reviewers (like Russell_B and Jaime_D) highlight the crew’s helpfulness, friendliness, and professionalism, emphasizing how they go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a good time. Safety measures are taken seriously, and the captain is certified, which adds peace of mind.

The cruise was awesome!! I didnt give it 5-stars due to the food & drinks not being the greatest, but the entertainment was perfect!! The staff is so helpful and fun, and they go above & beyond to make everyone feel welcomed and to make sure every person onboard is having a great time!!! Dance contest and the Conga line was fun! Sunset and water were amazing! One of the snorkeling stops is in fairly shallow water. Im not a swimmer, so I was shocked for the opportunity to safely get off the boat into the ocean. I did still use a life vest though. I highly recommend this cruise, just eat first and BYO small personal cooler. They only have beer, not so great margaritas, water, and soda. Book it…

Haven't had a bad tour yet, while on the island, and this one is no exception. These guys were wonderful and impressive. The catamaran was roomy and clean. Took precautions to ensure everyone's safety. Snorkeling was great. We were taken to a spot where there was lots to see, but nothing protected. This meant were able to "free dive," without worrying about accidental damage. Lunch was incredible. However the best part of the tour was how well they had taken care of an older gentleman with some type of muscular/nerve disorder. They took really great care of him and they were fun to boot. For that, they deserve even extra stars.

The team was great and very accommodating. What a beautiful day! We had a blast!!! Thank you! Can’t beat the price and for that please tip the team well!!! They work hard!

Food, Drinks, and Extras

Included snacks are described as tasty ceviche and chips—perfect for a light lunch or snack. The drinks menu is basic but refreshing, with the inclusion of bottled water, soft drinks, beers, and margaritas. Some reviewers felt the food and drinks weren’t outstanding, but they appreciated having refreshments included, especially on a hot day.

The Turtle Sanctuary Visit

A notable feature is the visit to the Turtle Bay, making this tour more than just snorkeling. It offers a quick educational component and a chance to see conservation efforts firsthand. If you're into wildlife, this is a definite plus.

Value for Money

At $90.25 per person, the tour is priced competitively. Considering the inclusions—multiple snorkeling stops, gear, drinks, snacks, and a scenic boat ride—it’s generally seen as good value. However, a few reviews touch on the cost of the marine fee ($11 USD), which is an extra expense that travelers should budget for.

What's Not Quite Perfect

El Cielo Beach Snorkeling Adventure by Catamaran - Whats Not Quite Perfect

While many reviews are glowing, some travelers did face issues. For example, a review from Richard mentions that their ship's port change caused them to miss the tour, highlighting the importance of confirming your schedule. Others pointed out that the snorkeling gear could be improved, with some masks leaking or fitting poorly.

Plus, a review from Barbara_P expressed disappointment that the tour didn't include sailing as advertised, which might be a bummer if you're expecting a sailing experience. The tour's main focus is snorkeling and relaxing on the water, not sailing per se.

The refund policy is straightforward but strict—full refunds are only available if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Last-minute changes could be problematic, so plan accordingly.

Who Is This Tour Best For?

This tour suits travelers who want a relaxed, guided experience with plenty of opportunities to see marine life without needing advanced snorkeling skills. It’s ideal for families with kids aged 5 and up, especially those looking for a safe, hassle-free day in the water. If you're traveling with a group or prefer a small, intimate vibe, you'll appreciate the capped group size.

It's also a good pick if you're interested in visiting El Cielo Beach—a famous shallow sandbar with starfish—and like the idea of combining snorkeling with a laid-back boat ride. The inclusion of food, drinks, and snacks makes it suitable for those who want a stress-free outing without additional costs.

However, if you're after an exclusive, high-end experience or want to snorkel in deeper, more remote reefs, this tour may feel a bit basic. It’s less about adventure and more about enjoying the scenery and marine life comfortably.
