Best way to appreciate Athens
Excellent orientation to the city sights, safe riding, and provided interesting background to the historical development of Athens. Stavros was knowledgeable and personable. His directions while riding were excellent, I felt safe in every way navigating foot traffic, city traffic, and a few small hills. His in-depth knowledge at each stop sorted out the ancient history of the ruins to make them memorable and also were insightful in the context of the city's history. This was a great tour of Athens due in large part to the excellent guide. A must for every first time visitor.

Fantastic, covering so many place with great knowledge
This was fantastic, we looked at a lot of options before booking this, Seqways and other electric options but decide to do the normal bike. When booking I struggled to understand why this one had a lot more that it visited, when we started the tour we saw all the other tours and due to the road and amount of tourists they struggle to get around to all the areas we were able to. This really was a highlight of our trip to Greece, our tour guide Stavros has a very in depth knowledge of the areas history and made the experience really enjoyable. I highly recommend this experience

Fun and informative bike tour of Athens
Stavros is the owner and guide. He tailored the tour to our speed and interests. He was knowledgeable and made the tour interesting by taking us to back alleys, flea markets, fish/meat market, and many historical sites. We were mostly on quiet roads that were flat and easy to pedal. There were a few short hills.

History can be fun!
What an excellent way to be introduced to all that Athens has to offer! Stavros is an excellent guide; his knowledge of Greek history is impressive and his enthusiasm is infectious. The biking was not too hilly and Stavros navigated to avoid the worst of the vehicle and pedestrian traffic. My wife and I recommend it highly! David from Canada

Greece, gears and gyros- the best way to experience Athens
It was my first time visiting Athens and only had the Sunday afternoon to see as much as i could before a busy few days of meetings. The bike tour with Stavros could not have been more perfect!! Stavros is incredibly friendly and welcoming and his knowledge of Athens was exceptional. The route is easy to cycle, with lost of variety of scenery- from cobbled streets to shaded gardens and a stunning viewpoint stop. Stavros also gave some fantatsic tips on local spots to visit and his suggestion of one of the oldest grillery in town, with the best souvlaki, was spot on! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would 100% recommend Flat Tyres to anyone visiting Athens.

That said, a potential consideration is the pace and physical demand. It’s designed to be easygoing, but if you’re not comfortable on a bike or have mobility concerns, it’s worth noting the tour involves some pedaling through city streets.

All in all, this bike tour suits travelers who want a lively, interactive way to understand Athens’ history, culture, and urban vibe—especially if you enjoy being outdoors and active.

The Itinerary: What You’ll Experience

The tour kicks off at Flat Tyres Psycling Club, conveniently located in central Athens. Here, you’ll meet your guide and hop onto a 28″ Trekking Bike, which is comfortable and easy to ride. Once geared up, you’ll set off along the city’s bike lanes, which immediately give you a sense of how accessible cycling in Athens can be.

The first stop is Kerameikos Cemetery, an ancient site that offers a glimpse into the city’s past. From there, the route takes you through the Psirri district—a vibrant neighborhood full of character, where you might get lost in the narrow streets and lively atmosphere. This is where the tour feels particularly authentic, away from the typical tourist crowds.

Next up is the famous Plaka district, often called the neighborhood of the gods. Cycling through its labyrinth of paved streets, you’ll see colorful houses, cafes, and shops, all layered with history. Approaching Syntagma Square, you’ll get a good view of the Greek Parliament building and the National Gardens—perfect spots for photos and soaking in Athens’ political and natural beauty.

From Syntagma, the tour heads toward the Zappeion Hall and the Panathenaic Stadium. As you pedal past these landmarks, you’ll get a sense of Athens’ sporting and ceremonial history. The Kallimarmaro stadium, with its marble seats, is especially impressive and a favorite among travelers, as one reviewer mentioned, “We cycled around the Acropolis which gives a very good impression of the city.”

Leaving the stadium, the route takes you to the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch—massive monuments that highlight Athens’ ancient grandeur. The Museum of Acropolis, located right beneath the sacred rock, is another highlight. Here, you might find a quick pause worthwhile, as it offers deeper insights into Athens’ ancient civilization.

Midway, there’s a break at Filopappou Hill—a spot renowned for panoramic views of Athens. This break is not just about catching your breath but also about taking in the cityscape from a stunning vantage point. From here, the tour continues through the bustling Monastiraki area, famous for its open market, and then through the charming streets of Thiseio.

The final stretch takes you back to Petralona, completing the loop with a sense of having truly explored the city’s layers, from ancient ruins to lively neighborhoods. One reviewer summed it up nicely, saying, “The route was well thought out, and we covered a lot during the tour,” which is consistent with the overall experience.

Value for Money

At around $39.50 per person, the tour offers a good bang for your buck considering the extensive itinerary and personalized experience. Practical Tips and Considerations

  • Comfort and fitness: While the tour is described as easy-going, some pedaling is involved, including a few short hills. Most travelers seem to manage comfortably, but if you’re very new to biking or have mobility issues, consider your comfort level.
  • Weather conditions: The experience is weather-dependent, and poor weather could lead to cancellations or rescheduling. If it rains, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
  • Timing: You can choose from several start times, making it flexible to fit into your day. Booking about a month in advance is recommended, as it tends to fill up.
  • What’s not included: Snacks and drinks aren’t provided, so bringing some water or a small snack might be a good idea if you’re hungry afterward.

Who Will Enjoy This Tour

This experience is best suited for active travelers who want a quick, fun way to see Athens’ top sights. It’s perfect for first-time visitors eager to get their bearings, or those who prefer an outdoor, less conventional sightseeing style.
