4.6(571 reviews)From $68 per person

Traveling through the Algarve offers plenty of options for exploring Portugal’s charming countryside, but one experience that genuinely stands out is the 4×4 Off-Road Safari combined with a wine tasting at a local vineyard. This tour promises a mix of adventure, scenic views, and delicious regional wine—great for travelers who want a little bit of everything.

What we particularly like about this experience is how it blends the thrill of off-road driving with the relaxed pleasure of wine tasting. Plus, it’s a good way to see parts of the Algarve that many visitors miss—think orange groves, cork forests, and rolling vineyards. That said, it’s worth noting that the tour runs rain or shine, so if you’re hoping for clear skies, check the weather forecast.

This trip is pretty flexible and suits those who enjoy a mix of outdoor adventure and cultural indulgence—whether you’re a solo traveler, couple, or even exploring with friends. It’s especially good if you’re into wine, nature, or just want a break from the more typical beach days.

We had a really good time on this tour. We were picked up by the guide on time. He was a very friendly and informative guide. He made us feel very relaxed on the journey. We visited a small farm up in the mountains first where we sampled homemade liquers and honeys. Next we travelled to the vineyard where we were shown to a table where we could leave our stuff. From there we were given a tour by a lovely lady around the gardens and inside where they make the wine. Finally we were able to sample 5 wines and had nibbles of meat and cheeses. At the end we were able to buy bottles of wine ranging from 10 to 12 euros a bottle. The whole trip lasted just over 4 hrs.

Absolutely loved this tour!! The tour guide was fantastic and very informative and passionate about the area and what tourism brings to the area but also what a lot of tourists miss just by not going out of the main city/towns. The only thing I would recommend would be to definitely take cash with you because card transactions in the villages is basically non existent.

The Good and the Not-So-Good

Many reviews highlight the value for money—$66 for a 4-hour tour that combines scenic driving, cultural insights, and wine tasting is quite reasonable. The quality of the wines and the friendliness of the guides earn high praise, with many calling it a “fantastic experience.”

However, a few reviewers pointed out that the safari trucks are somewhat worn, and on days with bad weather, the off-road sections can get muddy or slippery, which might not suit everyone. Also, since lunch isn’t included, those with a bigger appetite might want to plan for a meal afterward.

This was so much fun! Picked up directly at hotel and taken out in the 4×4, with local music and taken to a small farm to sample so local produce and then to the winery via a village. Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the Algarve. The only thing I would note is to eat a big lunch before going as it’s just nibbles with your wine tasting. Take water as you’ll be in the sun a bit too. Overall, a fab day and would recommend!

Really cool that we could get picked up near where we are staying, that helped a lot. Our guide Joao was super friendly and very informative along the tour! We learned a lot about local farming and vegetation. The wine tour was also informative about the entire process, and tasting the wine was delicious!

It was perfect in every way. The driver arrived at our hotel on time and took Us straight to the mountains. Explaining and pointing out sites as he drove. No hard sale at their tour place. Then headed on to the wine tasting place. Again a lovely relaxed time with bread, cheese, meats and 4 wines to taste again with no hard sale.
