While we haven’t done it ourselves, reviews and details paint a vivid picture of what to expect: unforgettable scenery, guides, and some great photo opportunities.
The trip was spectacular and I enjoyed every part of it.
It was an incredible experience—everything went very smoothly with the transport and the cable car, and we had plenty of time to explore everything. I have a huge fear of heights; however, our guide Tony was incredibly supportive and helped me through it, which I’m so grateful for.
Coach very comfortable, cable car amazing experience. Train and ice cave fantastic. Our guide Chris was well organised and gave lots of information. Highly recommend booking this trip a life time /bucket list adventure.
What we really appreciate about this experience is the combination of cable car rides and mountain train journeys — they let you get close to the mountains while feeling secure and comfortable. Plus, the fact that it’s a full 10-hour day means you get to explore at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to soak in the views.
On the flip side, potential travelers should consider the weather variability and the fact that some activities, like visiting ice caves, aren’t guaranteed every day.
Still, if you’re after an accessible, scenic adventure with a good mix of guided and free time, this trip could suit you well.
Perfect for those who love nature without the hassle of planning every detail, this tour is ideal for travelers who want to see the Alps without committing to an overnight stay. It’s also quite suitable for anyone comfortable with a full day of outdoor activities — just remember to dress warmly!
Had fun today! Spectatucar view and experience. Thanks to Tony and our driver.
Very good organized, enough time to explore by yourself but also be guided!
The day was easy and ran very well. The guide is so clear with what is needed and how things run for the day. The overall experience is one to not miss. If you are staying in Geneva and have a spare day or are trying to plan something this is 100% worth it and you will not forget this experience. I would highly recommend December and onwards as the snow just makes this place magical.

Getting Started: From Geneva to the Alps
The journey begins with a comfortable bus ride from Geneva, taking about 90 minutes to reach the charming Chamonix-Mont-Blanc village. It’s a scenic drive, with views of Swiss and French landscapes along the way. The meeting point at 8 rue François Bonivard in Geneva makes for an easy start, and since the activity ends back at that same spot, logistics are straightforward.
Travelers often appreciate how smoothly everything runs. The transport is included, and the timing allows for a full day of exploration without feeling rushed. We’ve seen reviews noting that the bus ride itself is pleasant, with some commentary on the surrounding scenery and local insights from guides.
The Cable Car Experience: Reaching New Heights
The highlight for many is the cable car ride to the summit at over 3,842 meters. Imagine ascending into the clouds, with views that stretch across the Alps, from Mont Blanc to the Bossons Glacier. Being able to see the peaks from above is something special.
For the more adventurous, there’s the possibility of stepping into the “void”—a glass box with three walls, a glass floor, and ceiling panels that give a sensation of floating over the mountains. Many reviews describe this as a thrilling, safe way to feel a bit of adrenaline while marveling at the landscape.
Fantastic day out. Well organised and informative "Tony" was an excellent tour guide ..he even booked the sunny weather! 😊 would recommend
The activities themselves were fantastic. My only complaint was the train to and from the ice cave. Way too many people for the train, especially coming back. It was farcical. We were late getting back to our coach despite only spending 30 minutes or so at the ice cave
From the moment we departed Geneva, we felt relaxed, comftable and had a good feeling. We arrived at Charmonix after a great journey and lots of information and places of interest along the way. When we arrived the cable car wasn't running due to high winds which is completely understandable, we then went to the alternative cable car, which was 10 minute walk from the original station, the only downside was the climb up the hills to get there, with medical conditions it was a bit stressful but we took our time and got there, it was great. The train was dissapointing through no fault of Swiss Tours, it took nearly an hour to queue to get on, which limited time when we got up to the glacier. A…
Once at the top, you can stroll along panoramic terraces, take photos, or enjoy a hot drink from the shop. The views on a clear day are reportedly jaw-dropping, with multiple reviews mentioning how awe-inspiring the scenery is. However, weather conditions can affect visibility, so it’s worth keeping in mind that sometimes clouds might obscure the peaks.
The Mountain Train to the Ice Sea (Mer de Glace)
After descending from the summit, the tour takes you back to the village for some free time. The next exciting part is the mountain train ride to the Mer de Glace, France’s largest glacier. Many travelers find this part of the trip particularly memorable, quoting the “spectacular” views and the “quaint” train experience.
The train journey is a chance to see the glacier from a different perspective, with some reviews emphasizing how the scenery looks even more dramatic from this vantage point. If open (which isn’t always guaranteed), there’s the option to visit ice caves and the museum, and enjoy panoramic terraces.
While these activities can be highlights, a few reviews mention they weren’t available every day, so flexibility is needed.
myself and my daughter did the full day with guide, chris was amazing and the day was so memorable, I would not hesitate in booking with Swiss tours again, communication from when I booked as another provider let us down, 5 stars from Irene & saoirse
The day started early and was well worth it, our guide was both attentive and knowledgeable with a bit of humour thrown in, Chamonix was beautiful and interesting at the same time, the cable cars were brilliant and the views spectacular although very windy at the top, the only disappointment was not being able to go down to the Glacier due to the high winds but we still enjoyed the train journey there and back and once again amazing views, all in all a very enjoyable trip that was definitely worth the money , thank you
It was amazing, weather was lovely, stories from the guide were very interesting.
Exploring Chamonix Village
Post-train, you have some free time in Chamonix itself. Many recommend grabbing a bite at local cafes or shopping in the town’s boutique stores. It’s known for its lively atmosphere, cozy restaurants, and friendly vibe. Some visitors wish they had more time here, but overall, the scheduled free time is enough for a quick stroll, a coffee, or souvenir shopping.
Practicalities: What’s Included and What’s Not
The package covers transportation, the cable car, the train to the glacier, bottled water, and maps. It’s a comprehensive deal considering the cost of individual tickets and transportation. Not included are lunch (which you’ll want to plan for) and a guide (though the reviews suggest guides are friendly and knowledgeable). The tour is run in English, making it accessible for most travelers.
Considerations and Tips
The tour operates daily regardless of weather, but the cable car and train’s functioning depend on conditions. If activities like ice cave visits are off-limits, alternatives are offered, but no refunds are issued for these changes.
Bring warm clothes — reviews repeatedly stress how cold it gets at the top, even in summer. Some mention that even thermal layers might not be enough, so packing extra warmth is wise.
it was beautiful trip and we were lucky with the weather.although by the end of the day the wind increased.due the weather conditions we got only up to 2300 m we could not get to the very top there was a strong wind.our guide was with humor and the day went well. recommend this trip
it was a fantastic day with breathtaking views of the Alps. The cable car was amazing and we had lunch up the Aiguille du Midi. We also went to Montenvers taking the train and the Glacier was fantastic to see. our guide Chris was great throughout the day. He gave us a lot of information and stories about Chamonix. A trip that must be done!
Couldn’t recommend enough was absolutely amazing! Book, book, book. One of the most amazing days.
Also, note that the trip isn’t suited for pregnant women or pets (assistance dogs are allowed). No clothing is provided for children, so plan accordingly. Since activities are weather-dependent, it’s good to stay flexible and have a backup plan in case of closures or delays.
Final Thoughts: Who Will Love This Trip?

This full-day adventure is great for those who crave stunning mountain scenery but prefer a hassle-free experience. If you enjoy guided tours with well-organized logistics, you’ll love how smooth everything runs and how much is packed into a single day.
The views from the cable car and train are often described as breathtaking, making it a memorable way to see Mont Blanc and the surrounding peaks without the need for overnight stays.
Travelers who appreciate good value will find this tour offers a lot for its $239 price tag — especially with the included transportation, cable car, and train rides. It’s especially suited to those comfortable with outdoor activities and cold weather, as some parts of the trip can be quite chilly, even in the summer.
However, if you’re seeking a leisurely, relaxed visit or want to explore Chamonix at your own pace, you might find the schedule a bit packed. Also, those with mobility issues should be aware that some activities involve short walks or climbs, and the ice caves aren’t guaranteed every day.
Overall, if photographing stunning alpine vistas, experiencing the thrill of high-altitude cable cars, and riding historic mountain trains sound appealing, this trip from Geneva offers one of the best ways to tick those boxes.
