If you’re heading to Lagos and want a taste of Portugal’s renowned wines combined with a bit of history and stunning scenery, this small-group wine tasting tour might be just what you’re looking for. Designed to give a relaxed yet informative experience, it offers a chance to sip local wines, explore charming villages, and see the gorgeous Algarve countryside—all in about four hours.
What makes this tour particularly appealing is its intimate size—limited to just eight people—allowing for a more personalized experience. Plus, the combination of wine tasting, sightseeing, and visiting a traditional winery makes it stand out as a balanced day trip.
On the downside, some travelers note that the wine tasting itself is rather superficial, but most agree the experience is enjoyable and well worth the price.
A great tour with an exceptional guide. Phillipe is an excellent guide and we learned so much about the area. The wine tour was fabulous. We never felt rushed and had ample time for picture taking and wine tasting. Would definitely recommend this tour and Phillipe as a guide. You won't regret it. Anne and family.
Filipe was EXCEPTIONAL! His vast knowledge of the town, the region, and honestly the country was impressive. Not to mention his knowledge of wine and the winemaking process. He went above and beyond to make our tour the best it could be – it seems to come from a place of genuine enthusiasm and love of his country. I'd give 10 stars if I could and I hope to join another one of his tours. Thank you!!
Fun 4 hours with a very nice guide. The winery was beautiful and the Cabernet was so good!
This tour is ideal if you’re a wine lover, enjoy scenic drives, or simply want a relaxed way to explore the region beyond the beaches. It’s also suitable for those who appreciate local culture and want to combine a bit of sightseeing with tasting some of Portugal’s finest wines.

Visiting Silves, a Historic Highlight
Your first real stop is the medieval town of Silves, spending about 45 minutes wandering its cobbled streets. This is a highlight for many, offering a glimpse into Algarve’s Moorish past. The castle here is a popular photo spot, and you’ll have the chance to explore on your own. As one reviewer mentioned, “the castle is cool,” and it’s a great way to stretch your legs before wine tasting.
Wonderful tour…Natalia was so knowledgeable of local cuisine and the history of Lisbon
I really liked it being a very small group. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about his heritage. It was lovely to visit Silves although we had very limited time to look around and we had to leave ourselves plenty of time to walk down the hill to the pick up point so we had to forego the church visit sadly. However we really enjoyed the wine tasting and tour. The wines were delicious, as were the tapas, and the setting was beautiful and peaceful. It gave us a taste of how the old Algarve must have been. It was a pleasure to see the owners' dream realised and successful.
What an amazing afternoon with Filipe. He is a very informative guild and spoke excellent English. He could not do enough for us from start to finish. The winery was fantastic and Filipe explained everything with passion This trip is a must.Highly recommend it
The Winery Experience
After Silves, your journey continues to a local winery where you’ll spend around 2.5 hours. This is the core of the tour—tasting three local wines paired with a selection of tapas, including cheese and sausages.
The tasting isn’t a formal wine class but rather a relaxed sampling, so don’t expect detailed wine education. Instead, you’ll get a chance to enjoy high-quality wines and learn a bit about their production.
The winery visit includes a look at the production room and wooden barrel cellar—great for those curious about how Portugal’s wines are made. Many reviews praise the beauty of the winery and the quality of the wines. As one guest put it, “the wines were good,” and another added, “Antonio was fantastic and the wine was excellent.”
The Scenic Return and Free Time
After sampling wines and snacks, you’ll hop back into the van for a short drive home. Before returning to Lagos, you get some free time in Silves to explore further or just soak in the atmosphere at your own pace.
Felipe was extremely knowledgeable and passionate when talking about Silves and giving a history of the winery we visited. Lovely choice of wines. A great morning trip out.
Loverly mixture of historic Silves and wine tasting with so delicious wines. Filipe was an excellent guide on wine history of the Algarve and knowledge of his country.
Our guide Filipe was really informative, he was easy to listen to and a great driver. The winery we visited was a beautiful family owned buisness that really took the time to do things right, definitely worth the time if you love wine.

Great tour and winery. Very knowledgeable tour guide Rui made it super fun. Nice stop in a small village of Silves. Highly recommended!
This was a truly fabulous excursion from start to finish. Our guide, Roy, was personable, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about the region. He shared so many interesting facts and local insights throughout the day, which really enriched the experience. The brief stop in Silves was a great addition — it gave us time to explore the historic Castelo de Silves and take in the charm of the town before heading to the winery. The winery tour itself was well-organized and engaging. Roy answered all of our questions with ease and depth, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. The highlight was relaxing on the terrace with a delicious selection of tapas and wine tastings, all set a…
Filipe is a walking gem. So knowledgeable, very informative and passionate about his work and wine. The ride to the Castello de Silves was immersive and enjoyable. And the wine tasting was an experience in itself. So good we bought a bottle of Rose to take home.
