If you’re looking for a memorable way to connect with the waters off Tenerife’s coast, this whale watching cruise from Los Gigantes might just be what you need. We haven’t personally been on this exact trip, but after digging into the details and reviews, it seems to offer a well-rounded, respectful, and genuinely enjoyable experience.

What we love most? First, the small-group vibe—max. 9 passengers—means you won’t be lost in a crowd, and you get plenty of time to ask questions and really soak in the surroundings. Second, the focus on marine conservation and responsible whale watching is both commendable and reassuring, especially if you’re eco-conscious.

The chance to spot pilot whales and dolphins, and even snorkel beneath the cliffs, adds a layer of adventure that feels authentic.

What an unforgettable cruise! Our guides, Jakob and Miguel, were outstanding, friendly, attentive, and full of fascinating knowledge about the animals, the sea, and the respectful way we approached them. The small group of just nine tourists made the sailboat feel cozy and personal, creating a relaxed atmosphere throughout. After swimming in a beautiful bay, we were treated to delicious food and drinks that perfectly rounded off the day. Truly a special experience, highly recommended!

Amazing cruise! Jakob and Miguel were fantastic guides, making the trip fun and informative. We really appreciated their extensive knowledge of the animals, the sea, and the respectful way we approached the wildlife. The small group of only nine tourists created a cozy atmosphere on the sailboat. After swimming in a beautiful bay, we enjoyed delicious food and drinks, a perfect day!

A potential consideration is the trip’s duration—about 3 to 4 hours—which might be a bit short if you’re hoping for a longer day out at sea. Also, the tour’s price at around $85 per person is fair, given the inclusion of snacks, snorkeling gear, and guides, but it’s worth comparing with other options for value.

This tour suits travelers looking for a small, eco-minded boat trip that balances wildlife spotting with relaxing sailing and a touch of local flavor. It’s ideal for those who appreciate a calm, informative atmosphere and aren’t expecting nonstop action or intense excursions.

It was a fun activity (except if you suffer from seasickness like me and my partner; didn’t expect it though). Our guides were very lovely and accommodating and helped us through it. We loved seeing the pilot whales, and swimming near the los gigantes cliffs afterwards was amazing. There were tapas and drinks on board that you can enjoy right after swimming. All in all a fun experience minus the seasickness 🤢🥹😅

From Los Gigantes: Whale Watching Sailboat Cruise - The Itinerary and Experience Breakdown

While exact timings aren’t specified, expect a flexible 3 to 4-hour window. The trip begins at the port of Los Gigantes, where the boat, affectionately called Aemon, awaits. You’ll board a well-equipped vessel with safety gear like life vests and snorkeling masks included. The crew is friendly and eager to answer questions, making the whole experience stress-free and personable.

Once underway, the guides share insights about the island’s geology, especially the famous cliffs, and the rich marine environment teeming beneath the waves. The main highlight is whale and dolphin sightings—many reviews mention dolphins playing around the boat, which adds to the fun.

Even if whales aren’t spotted every day, the guides work hard to find wildlife, and the reviews suggest that most trips do yield sightings.

If you are trying to decide which whalewatching boat trip to do from Los Gigantes, this is the one! I couldn’t recommend it more highly, it was the highlight of our trip. Sara and Felix were lovely, and the atmosphere on board was calm and relaxing – with just 7 guests and no music. Sara was extremely knowledgeable about the marine life and the islands (in Spanish, English and French!). We saw a beautiful family of pilot whales, which was incredible. It’s clear Sara is passionate about the conservation of these beautiful creatures, and I’m really glad we maintained a respectful distance from the Whales to enjoy watching them in their own environment. Even if we hadn’t found them, it …
Sebastian
Sarah and the crew. The ship is nice. All perfect!
Gabriel
Overall was a very pleasant cruise. Sarah (the guide) was very nice and friendly – explained us a lot about everything, starting with the marine fauna and the whales and ending with Los Gigantes and the hiking tracks. The boat was perfect for 8 people like we were. We also liked very much the traditional snacks. If i were to improve something, would be the total time, even if would be just by an hour, so a total of 4 hours instead of 3 would be much better.

Next comes snorkeling time. Anchored near the cliffs, you’ll have the chance to float in clear waters, observe marine life up close, and enjoy the scenery from beneath the surface. The snorkeling gear is included, but you’ll want to bring your own towel and high-SPF sunscreen.

To top it off, a homemade tapas menu is served onboard. Many reviewers love the quality and freshness of the snacks, especially vegetarians who note the variety and flavor. It’s a relaxed moment to chat with fellow travelers and enjoy local flavors amidst stunning views.
