Planning your trip to Ohrid and wondering if a day trip around Lake Ohrid is worth it? This private tour offers a comprehensive look at the area’s highlights, including both North Macedonia and Albanian shores. From historic monasteries to scenic villages, you’ll get a taste of what makes this region so special.
What we love about this tour is its personalized touch—being private means your guide can tailor the experience a bit and give you undivided attention. Plus, the seamless round-trip transport and included lunch make it a convenient way to see a lot in just one day.
On the flip side, a potential consideration is that the tour is mostly by vehicle, with limited time on the water—something to keep in mind if you’re expecting a boat experience.
Fantastic excursion from start to end. Our driver and guide, Tony was extremely knowledgeable and gave us so much interesting information about the country and all that we saw. Every stop was well planned and we were able to take in all the highlights and points of interest around the lake. Tony was very flexible around what we wanted to do. One of the highlights for us was the boat trip with Nikola at the springs next to Naum Monastery which was an optional extra, and well worth it. We were never rushed, and had a really lovely day out. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Full day tour by car around the lake! Stops in several key sights and small towns. If you have one day to see this area, this tour is a great option. Tour guide was perfectly fluent in English and shared tons of detailed info. Since it's a private tour it would be cool if you had some choices since there is so much to do. Overall really recommend though.
Driver and guide Goran was very good. Turns out he has a German drivers license so kudos to the company for hiring such a good driver. We stopped at three places in Albania. A beautiful spot for coffee looking out on the water, a town to walk around and do a little bit of shopping, and a third place that was absolutely gorgeous for lunch. The restaurant was right on the water. You do two border crossings, one in Albania and one back into Macedonia. As other of you are so said, there is no walking tour of Ohrid. But The tour was great because you got to see the monastery and bay of bones. And Albania. My son is excited to take Albanian money out of the ATM. Check with your guide, most places…
This tour suits travelers who are short on time but eager to see the key sights and learn about the region without the hassle of organizing transport and logistics themselves. It’s especially good for first-timers or those who want a flexible, guided overview of Lake Ohrid and nearby Albanian sites. If you’re after a deep dive into local culture, history, and landscapes—all in one day—this tour could be a good fit.

Starting with the Bay of the Bones Museum
Your day kicks off with a visit to the Bay of the Bones Museum, a reconstructed Bronze and Iron Age village built on stilts over Lake Ohrid. It’s a fascinating snapshot of ancient life, with displays of recovered artifacts. While the admission isn’t included, the site offers some of the best lakeside scenery and an interesting historical context. We loved the way it sets the scene for the ancient lake ecosystems and human history intertwined with the region.
The Monastery of Saint Naum
Next, you’ll visit the Monastery of Saint Naum, a peaceful and beautiful Eastern Orthodox monastery founded by the saint himself. Sitting right along Lake Ohrid’s shore, it’s a perfect spot for photos and absorbing some spiritual atmosphere. The guide will share stories about its medieval roots, making the visit more meaningful. Keep in mind, entrance tickets aren’t included, so you might want to have some cash handy for that.
Pogradec, the Albanian lakeside town
After the monastery, the tour crosses into Albania to explore Pogradec, a charming town on the lake’s southeastern shore. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional Albanian-style lunch, which many reviews praise as tasty and satisfying. Pogradec offers a different vibe—less touristy, more authentic—and it’s a chance to see how Albanian life centers around Lake Ohrid.
The River Drim and Struga
Driving along the River Drim, which flows out of Lake Ohrid into North Macedonia, you’ll get glimpses of the natural beauty of the region. Brilliant day. I’ve forgotten our guides name already (sorry, I think it was Vladimir) but he was fantastic. Answered every question, went into so much depth and, most importantly, was very patient with us with our two-year-old daughter. Everything was super. Thank you so much.
Great opportunity to see the Bay of Bones, St.Naum Monastery and Albania’s Lake Ohrid coast in one day. Igor was a wonderful guide and an expert on Macedonian history and culture. Great experience.
I did full day tour private tour of Lake Ohrid and Albania and had guide Martina and driver Jordan, both were excellent. The tour is a loop around Lake Ohrid and covers all the main sights including St Naum Monastery and bay of Bones and Struga in Macedonia side. It also includes the Albanian side of the lake with a stop in Pogradec where the highlight is trying Ohrid river trout. Martina gave lots of useful information and the pace of the tour was entirely up to me which was great so we could spend more time at the nicer places and no time wasted going to souvenir shops for example. Highly recommend this tour especially if short on time in Ohrid (otherwise boat tour to St Naum is a whole da…
However, some expressed disappointment with the water aspect, noting that since most of the photos feature boats, they expected more boat time. One reviewer pointed out that they spent the day mainly traveling by car, which might not meet everyone’s expectations for a lakeside experience.
The consensus is that if you’re looking for a comprehensive, well-organized tour with cultural and scenic highlights, this tour delivers. Plus, the included lunch and transport make it a convenient package, especially for first-time visitors.
