It was a blast! Highly recommend going. If you have the option ask to go ask for Troy's tour he was a great entertaining host and driver.

The tour was a long one but wholesome at the same time. The tour guide Lisa is special, I enjoyed her tour and she literally spoke through out the tour and had a lot of interesting facts and stories about Northern Ireland. The driver Jim is a class man. My wife had not brought her jacket on tour and he offered his jacket to her as we were going the giants causeway.

Our host Andrew was great. All the stops were timely and fun. Loved the Dark Hedges and Giants Causeway of course. Thanks Andrew for making it so fun.

The Itinerary in Detail

Starting bright and early at Donegall Square West in Belfast, the tour kicks off with a friendly face and a lot of enthusiasm. The guide, who has appeared in the show, brings a genuine passion for both the series and local history. It’s immediately clear that your guide’s knowledge and storytelling make a difference, helping to bring the locations to life.

First stop: Carnlough, where Arya Stark’s character falls into the water after being wounded. This is a fairly quick visit—about 25 minutes—but it’s a memorable spot for fans. You’ll get to see the place where Arya’s story took a dramatic turn, making it a highlight for many.

Next, you’ll visit Bushmills Distillery—Ireland’s oldest whisky producer. While some reviews mention disappointment about not touring the distillery itself, you will stop here for roughly 45 minutes, enough time for a quick look around or a photo. It’s an interesting stop, especially if you appreciate Irish spirits, but keep in mind it’s more of a photo op than a full tasting experience.

The highlight for most is the Giants Causeway—a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring majestic basalt columns formed by ancient volcanic activity. It’s a natural spectacle that makes you feel like you’re walking on a different planet. You’ll have about 1.5 hours here, which is enough to walk around and soak in the scenery.

The whole trip was great and lived up to our expectations. The causeway was breathtaking. Our guide was engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining. Would recommend this tour based on our experience.
Vicki H
Stuart was our guide and did a fabulous job giving us both the history of Ireland as well as Game of Thrones. The coastline was beautiful and it was fun to walk through the Dark Hedge and down to the Giant Causeway. Would definitely recommend.
Peter Y
Exceptional tour with a great guide and driver-Karl. Really appreciated the time and effort made by the tour company but especially Karl who was knowledgable and approachable and made the toue such fun.

Dunluce Castle is another brief stop, where the ruins served as the exterior of the Greyjoy’s stronghold in Game of Thrones. It’s a quick photo opportunity but no less dramatic, perched dramatically on the coastline.

Finally, the Dark Hedges, a natural tunnel of intertwined trees, is probably the most iconic Game of Thrones filming location. Arya Stark’s escape route famously runs through this haunting, beautiful avenue. You’ll spend about an hour here, great for snapping some photos and getting a dose of that cinematic atmosphere.

What Reviewers Say

Many travelers praise their guides for being knowledgeable, engaging, and funny—making a long day enjoyable. For example, one reviewer mentions, “Stuart was our guide and did a fabulous job giving us both the history of Ireland as well as Game of Thrones.” Others highlight how the stops were well-timed, ensuring they weren’t stuck on the bus too long, which can be a real plus in such a full itinerary.

Some reviewers, however, pointed out minor frustrations like the lack of photo stops on the bus and the absence of vegetarian lunch options. One disappointed traveler wanted to walk across the Rope Bridge, which was off-limits during their visit, illustrating how specific expectations about certain sites may not always be met.

Vicki K
Loved the Dark hedges and the Giant Causeway. The driver was very informative and funny. He was an excellent driver.
Audrey
Our guide Stuart was great! Long day, but made enjoyable by the frequent stops so we were not on the bus too long for any given amount of time (until going back to the city after the causeway – which was over an hour away). It is a bit of a hike to each of the main sights, so plan on wearing walking shoes. Causeway was quite a hike down and back, so the shuttle may be worth it coming back up. Bring cash for the shuttle!
Ping C
Pretty sure I read on the ad that we were able to go across the rope bridge ( which was why I chose to go on this viator tour rather than others) and was disappointed to learn it was off limits to people on tour buses.. Besides, the Dark Hedges was not at all like what the pic shows on your website.. It's almost like false advertising! Glad the tour ended with the Giant's Causeway which was quite a spectacle. Stuart ,our tour guide and driver, was informative and pleasant with us although he did show his impatience/ annoyance at certain drivers throughout the trip which I found not too great and which made me anxious being seated directly behind him on the coach. Not a bad tour on the whole…

Transportation and Group Size

Transportation is by coach, which is generally comfortable, and the group size is capped at 45 travelers. That helps keep the atmosphere friendly and manageable, especially when navigating busy or scenic spots. The tour begins at 9:00 am and ends back in Belfast, around 6 pm, making it great for day-trippers eager to see a lot but not wanting to extend their day excessively.

Value for Money

At $48.31 per person, this tour offers a surprising amount of value. For the price, you’re getting transportation, a guide, and access to multiple top sights, including the Giants Causeway. While food and drinks aren’t included, the stops for lunch in Ballycastle give you the freedom to choose according to your taste and budget.

A quick note from reviews is that meal options may be limited, so packing snacks might be a good idea if you have specific dietary needs.

Who Would Love This Tour?

This trip is best suited for fans of Game of Thrones, given the focus on filming locations. But even if you’re not a dedicated fan, you’ll appreciate the stunning scenery and the chance to see Northern Ireland’s coastline and castles. It’s also a good choice if you prefer organized, guided experiences over independent road trips, especially since the stops are well-planned to avoid long bus rides.

Fantastic day trip to the Giant’s Causeway, Dark Hedges and other picturesque sites. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the trip so much fun!
Cathy P
My daughter came over to Northern Ireland with me specifically for the Game of Thrones tour as we are both fans of the series. We both really enjoyed it and although it would have been nice to have a tour purely around the GOT filming sites, we wouldn't have got to see the Giants Causeway if that was the case. Stuart our driver and guide was very entertaining. Just one tip for improvement – I would have liked it if the actual scene from GOT being referred to was shown on the screen in the coach – would have added to the relevance but thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Mary M
The whole journey was equally enjoyable. Stuart our guide and driver was exceptional and made the tour a true experience of Ireland.

The Sum Up

If you’re after a full day of sightseeing with a touch of fantasy, this tour offers a convenient way to tick off several of Northern Ireland’s most iconic sites. The combination of Game of Thrones filming locations, dramatic coastlines, and UNESCO-listed marvels makes it a well-rounded experience. The guides, often praised for their knowledge and humor, enhance the trip, making it memorable.

However, keep in mind the long duration and the limited meal options—these are minor bumps in what is generally a solid, enjoyable tour. It’s a great pick for fans, curious travelers, and anyone wanting an overview of the region without the hassle of planning multiple day trips.

All in all, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced, engaging, and scenic tour that captures the essence of Northern Ireland, this one’s worth considering.
