If you’re eyeing a day trip that combines stunning scenery, history, and a bit of legend, this Giant’s Causeway Tour from Belfast might be just the thing. While we haven’t taken this trip ourselves, there’s a lot to appreciate about what it offers. It’s designed to pack a full day with visits to some of the most iconic sites along the Antrim Coast, all while cruising comfortably in a luxury bus.

What we really like about this tour is its balanced mix of natural wonders and historic landmarks—and that it offers a pretty good bang for your buck at just around $33 per person. Plus, the tour’s itinerary is thoughtfully curated to hit the highlights without feeling overly rushed.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that some travelers expressed disappointment about certain activities not being included, like the rope bridge experience.

Great time. Great stories. Amazing sites. Thank you for the adventure! The family would do it again.
Mary O
I booked this tour because it said I could actually do the rope bridge. That wasn’t part of the tour at all! We ended going to two castles that I could not have cared less about. Also, the place we stopped for lunch, The Hedges Hotel, was beauti…
Orla O
Wow what a great way to spend a day! Stunning views and great historical snippets from our driver/guide David to better understand what we were seeing. Thoroughly enjoyed and it seemed everyone else on the packed bus did too. One cave…

This experience is best suited for those who enjoy scenic drives, outdoor exploration, and a touch of Irish mythology. It’s also a good fit for travelers who don’t mind a full, sometimes lengthy bus day, and who want a guided experience that keeps things organized. It’s a long day, but well worth it. Our driver was keen we kept to his schedule and returned to the bus on time at each of the stops. This is the only way that you will get to make the most of each location. Our driver Dave was good fun and very knowledgable. What I did not expect was the Game of Thrones influences and locations, so that was an added bonus!
Declan M
Really good day out. Driver was half a comedian and half a tour guide. He really made our day so enjoyable. The sights

Our driver, Dave was so funny and had so much personality with the over all tour! The tour and destinations were amazing and didn’t feel too long between them

Carrickfergus Castle: A Historic Landmark

Your first stop is Carrickfergus Castle. While admission isn’t included, you’ll have around 40 minutes to explore the ruins and snap some photos of this impressive medieval fortress that’s been a dominant feature of the harbor for centuries.

Reviewers often mention that the harbor and the quaint Irish coastal village are charming, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s past. Ruth_R describes it as a “wonderful adventure” and a great photo opportunity.

The Scenic Coast and Photo Stops

Next, the tour continues with a slight detour for photos at the Portaneevy Viewpoint, where you can enjoy sweeping views over the coast—an excellent spot for taking in the rugged landscape. This stop lasts about 20 minutes and is free of charge, making it a simple yet rewarding addition.

The Dark Hedges: A Must-See

One of the most Instagram-worthy spots along the route is The Dark Hedges. Known as one of Northern Ireland’s most photographed sites, these intertwined beech trees form an atmospheric tunnel.

Bert N
Wonderful experience by bus. The driver was very knowledgeable and gave us good tips. Very convenient pick up.
Claudia G
We saw some beautiful sights with just enough time to enjoy each place. Our tour guide Dave was hilarious and really added to the experience. The price was also amazing.
Siri H
Very informative and lively tour guide/driver. He was friendly and answered customers questions efficiently. Enjoyable tour all round.

It’s a fairly lengthy stop—about an hour and a half—so you’ll have enough time to wander, take pictures, and soak in the scenery. It’s worth noting that this natural phenomenon has become popular with travelers from all over the world.

The Giants Causeway: Natural Wonder and Mythology

Of course, the main event is the Giants Causeway—Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have around 90 minutes here to walk among the iconic basalt columns, take photos, and enjoy the views of the wind-swept Atlantic. Many reviewers have described this as a highlight; Orla_O calls it a “breathtaking” experience, praising the stunning vistas and the stories behind the formation.

However, it’s important to note that the tour does not include the visitor center (which charges £12.50), and some reviews warn that the gift shop and restaurant there are a bit commercialized.

Instead, many suggest spending your time exploring the Causeway itself—the natural formation—and ignoring the tourist traps. You can clamber over the rocks, marvel at the myth that a giant built this causeway, and get some fantastic photos.

Darren P
A great day, well organised and our tour guide Dave was very informative! We loved it and would recommend the trip to anybody!
Lucy V
This day trip was the highlight of our Belfast stay. The giants causeway was an amazing experience. The castles had lovely views, worth going into Carrickfergus castle, Dunluce has a free way down into a cave. Just about enough time in each of the castles, would have liked longer for Giants Causeway. The dark hedges were a nice sight and they served a lovely buffet. We also drove past other game of thrones filming locations. Our tour guide and driver Dave was amazing! He was so funny, knowledge and attentive. He was so interesting to listen to and made the journey quick and enjoyable.
Melissa C
This was a fun tour. You do a lot so it may feel like you aren't getting a lot of time at all the places but you are seeing so much and our tour guide Stuart was funny and informative. The lunch at the hedges hotel is good and the dark hedges aren't that far from the giants causeway. Overall it's a good day out and you get to see alot. Definitely good value for money as they also get you discounts at the castles and the lunch as part of the tour.

Dunluce Castle and A Bit of Game of Thrones

Following the Causeway, the tour stops at Dunluce Castle, where you can explore the ruins and imagine the medieval battles fought here. The castle is rich with history and also served as a filming location for Game of Thrones, adding a pop-culture twist for fans.

The 30-minute stop offers a quick walk-through and some great photo opportunities. Admission isn’t included, but many visitors find it well worth the short visit.

The Return Journey and Belfast City Hall

As the day winds down, the group heads back toward Belfast, stopping briefly at Belfast City Hall for some final photos and a chance to reflect on the day’s adventures. The tour ends at the original meeting point, giving you ample time to head out for dinner or explore more of Belfast.

The Experience: What Do You Really Get?

Giant's Causeway Tour from Belfast - Luxury Bus + Castles Tour - The Experience: What Do You Really Get?

Transportation & Group Size

Traveling in a luxury bus makes the long day much more comfortable. The group size, up to 53 travelers, is fairly standard for such tours, meaning you’re part of a sizable group but not crammed in like sardines.

Wayne H
It is a great choice to explore the Antrim coast with lots of stops to visit the castles and other attractions The lunch stop is well planned and the food was good value and plentiful Our driver Dave was brilliant. Knowledgeable and humorous and a real character (as well as being a great host and driver) He pointed out all the points of interest as we went, answering all questions and even providing props for photos
Gladys S
Highly recommended tour, very efficient and informative us our tour guide Tommy, well not only he gave us a glimpse history of Belfast and the places but able to crack some jokes along the way!
Taryn S
Excellent tour. Whilst my partner isn’t a fan of long bus rides, we stopped frequently, and had good opportunities to explore and take photos. The scenic views were breathtaking- even in winter on a rainy/snowy day. Our driver (Tommy I think?) was excellent. Very knowledgeable, personable and gave clear times to be back. Really enjoyed this day trip.

Guide & Commentary

Our sources praise the guides—whether David, Tommy, or others—for their lively commentary and storytelling. Several reviews mention the guide's sense of humor, knowledge, and ability to keep everyone engaged. This makes a big difference in how much you’ll enjoy the ride and learn about each site.

Duration & Pacing

The tour lasts about 9.5 hours, which is quite a long day but typical for a full-day excursion. While the stops are fairly well spaced, some reviews note that there’s limited free time at each site, especially at the Giants Causeway, where about an hour and a half is allocated. If you love to take photos and explore at your own pace, be prepared for a somewhat brisk visit.

Cost & Value

For around $33, this tour offers a lot—multiple sights, a comfortable ride, and the chance to learn from guides. While extras like the visitor center at the Causeway or the rope bridge aren’t included (and the rope bridge is only accessible March-October, for an extra fee), the overall value seems good based on reviews.

Many mention that the tour includes discounts at sites and a well-planned lunch stop, making the day feel like a well-rounded experience.

Potential Drawbacks

One of the main complaints is that some advertised features, like walking across the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, are not part of the actual tour—a disappointment if that was your main reason for booking. Also, some travelers felt that the guide's knowledge varied; Ruth_H found Louie’s explanations somewhat lacking, relying heavily on the driver for details.
