Golf-Juan: Lérins Islands Sailing Discovery, Snorkeling — A Practical Look

If you’re thinking about exploring the South of France’s coast from the water, the Lérins Islands Sailing Discovery tour is something that’s caught quite a bit of attention. It’s a 4-hour trip that promises a blend of sailing, snorkeling, and a touch of history, all centered around the stunning backdrop of the French Riviera.

From what we’ve seen in reviews and the detailed itinerary, this experience seems to cater well to folks who want a relaxed, engaging day out on the sea without overdoing it.

The tour was awesome, great guide, beautiful water perfect for snorkeling. The paddle board was super fun as well. It was a 10/10 experience!

On the day of our trip, the weather was rainy and windy so we pushed the trip back a couple of hours to ensure that we could still go. However, similar weather persisted throughout the day. Our guide, Joseph, when it was getting a bit too choppy on the water booked us a lunch reservation and made sure we had seen some sites before hand. We had an amazing lunch and walk around Lopud, and eventually we found the sun and followed it to a couple of beaches. Joseph really went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time and took us to some GORGEOUS places. Wouldn’t have traded the day for anything, was a real highlight of our trip! Would recommend to anyone.

Valentin was amazing as a skipper and guide. We had so much fun swimming, snorkelling and paddle-boarding. 100% recommend going on this boat trip!

What really draws us in is how this trip combines hands-on sailing with some excellent opportunities for snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. Plus, the chance to learn some local stories, like the legend of the Man in the Iron Mask, adds a bit of storytelling charm that elevates the experience beyond just lounging on a boat.

On the flip side, a small consideration might be the limited time for swimming if you’re hoping for a full day of underwater exploration, especially since the water can be colder outside the peak summer months.

We think this tour suits travelers who enjoy a bit of adventure but prefer a more laid-back pace—perfect for couples, small groups, or even families with older kids who are comfortable around water. If you’re keen on sailing and want to combine maritime history, scenic views, and marine life spotting in one go, this could be a great fit.

Just keep in mind, if you’re after a very private or exclusive experience, the group size of up to 9 might feel a little crowded for some.

The Highlights of the Tour

Golf-Juan : Lérins Islands Sailing Discovery, snorkeling - The Highlights of the Tour

The first major highlight is sailing past Sainte-Marguerite Island, famously associated with the legend of the Man in the Iron Mask. As you glide past, the silhouette of Fort Royal adds a mysterious, historic vibe. While you probably won’t be able to explore much on this trip, the panoramic views and storytelling easily compensate.

Next, the swimming/snorkeling stop is a definite crowd-pleaser—if you're visiting between May 15 and September 15, you’ll anchor in a turquoise cove beneath Fort Royal, where the waters are clear and lively with marine life. Many reviews mention how stunning the water is, perfect for dipping in and exploring with provided masks. One reviewer said, “great water, perfect for snorkeling,” which shows how much people enjoy this aspect.

When the weather isn’t ideal, the tour nicely switches to a stopover on Saint Marguerite Island for nearly two hours. Here, you have time to walk around the old village, see the old prison, or explore the coastline at your own pace. Reviewers have appreciated this flexibility, especially those who enjoy a bit of free time on new islands.

The stop at Sainte Marguerite Island includes a photo opportunity, some free time, and the chance to snorkel or just soak up the sun on the boat deck. During this time, you'll be able to explore the island’s old village or visit key sites like the natural salt lake and surrounding forests.

The final stop at Fort Royal is both picturesque and fascinating, with enough time to snap photos, explore, or relax on the boat. Many reviews mention how the boat is kept clean and comfortable, and the small group size creates a more personal experience.

Not all reviews are perfect—some mention that the snorkeling might not be as vibrant as expected outside peak season, or that the two island stops felt quite similar. But even then, people generally agree that the boat’s comfort, the friendly guides, and the stunning scenery make up for these minor points.

A standout quote from a review: “This day has been the highlight of my holiday! Our guide was so accommodating,” which emphasizes how flexible and friendly the experience can be, especially if you’re a small group or traveling with loved ones.
