Exploring the Jungle and Beach Horseback Ride Tour in Pacific Coast

If you’re looking to add a touch of adventure to your Mazatlan trip, this horseback riding tour offers a unique blend of natural beauty, local flavors, and laid-back fun. While we haven’t tried it ourselves, the glowing reviews and detailed descriptions give us a pretty good sense of what to expect.
What immediately catches the eye is how well-organized and family-friendly this experience seems, especially with a maximum group size of just 10 travelers, making it more personal than many large tours. Plus, the combination of jungle, beach, and cultural tasting is quite appealing.
My driver, Juan, was fluent in English, and we had a great conversation there and back. He also educated me on tequila production, and that was fascinating. I was served cafe de olla and a pastry upon my arrival; both were very good, and I will make that henceforth. My guide and I tried to have a conversation, but neither of us spoke the other’s language very well, but we got by, and the ride, although quite warm, was enjoyable. I really enjoyed my day at Mr Lionso’s ranch. I hope my Padre enjoys his tequila I bought there!
We had an excellent time! The one place for improvement is the initial contact. When I downloaded the event description the form said our driver would call us when he met us at the port. I was awaiting a call or text but the office sent an email
This experience was awesome ! I enjoyed the horseback riding and the beautiful view. The food was really good. Its nice to experience authentic cuisine.
On the flip side, the tour spans about 3 hours — a decent chunk of time — which might be a bit long if you’re not used to active outings or if you have young kids. But overall, it’s well-suited for those wanting an authentic taste of local scenery and traditions without feeling rushed.
This tour tends to attract travelers who enjoy nature, good food, and cultural experiences, making it a solid pick for anyone wanting a more meaningful day out. If you’re after a relaxed, scenic adventure with friendly guides, this could be just the right fit.

What to Expect from the Tour

This tour is a well-rounded experience that starts with a simple but crucial detail: pickup from your hotel, condo, or the cruise port. Once you’re on the road, the drive to Mr. Lionso Ranch takes about 15 minutes from the Golden Zone, which keeps things convenient and hassle-free.
The Horseback Riding Adventure
Once at the ranch, you’ll choose your horse — and here, we love the fact that there’s a leader horse guiding the group, making it more accessible for riders of all skill levels. The ride itself lasts about an hour and a half, during which you’ll stroll through agave fields, lush jungle, and along quiet beaches.
Multiple reviews mention how gentle the horses are and how accommodating the guides are, especially for families with children or those new to riding. An attendee noted that “the horses were very gentle,” and another appreciated how well the staff explained everything beforehand.
Expect scenic views that blend earthy greens of the jungle, the sandy tranquility of the beach, and the vibrant blue of the ocean. The riding experience is designed to be relaxed and scenic rather than intense, making it suitable for most physical fitness levels, but some reviewers recommend a moderate level of fitness.
I enjoyed the time riding along the beach. Beautiful scenery. Would have liked to have moved a little faster. The group I came in was split between horses or ATVs. I had to wait around quite awhile waiting on the ATV riders to return. Communication wasn’t great.
This was a great tour. Our guide didn't speak english but he was very nice and we were definitely able to figure it out with our tiny bit of spanish. Our 9&7 year olds rode together (being led by or guide) and our toddler shared a saddle with a parent. Adults should wear pants if possible. Lunch was delicious.
Such an amazing time! Horse ride was awesome…Guide didn’t speak much English but didn’t need to much anyways LMAO led the way just fine! Lunch was FABULOUS and store owner went out of his way to make sure what we purchased we were happy with!! Unfortunately my husband got the wrong size shirt and he came to our hotel to exchange the size for him!! Over and beyond and incredible experience…. I would recommend this tour over and over !
Lunch and Tasting
After your ride, a hearty local meal awaits at the ranch's restaurant. The menu includes cheese flambée, beef burritos (machaca), homemade tortillas, guacamole, salsa, and nopales (cactus). From reviews, we gather that the food is genuinely tasty and well-prepared, with one reviewer specifically mentioning the “delicious lunch” and “great food and drinks.”
Following lunch, the experience gets even more local — a visit to their own mezcal factory, where you'll see the process and taste multiple flavors like reposado, white, coffee, almond, mango, hibiscus, and tamarind. Lovers of spirits will appreciate how the tour offers a chance to sample a variety of flavors, often highlighted as a standout part of the experience.
Shopping and Additional Tips
Finally, there's a chance to browse the ranch’s shop, which is a nice touch for souvenirs or gifts. A few reviews pointed out how friendly and helpful the staff are, making the whole day smooth and enjoyable.
Why This Tour Stands Out

The combination of horseback riding, scenic views, local cuisine, and mezcal tasting makes this tour a well-rounded outing. Unlike some tours that focus solely on riding or sightseeing, here you’re immersed in various facets of local culture and nature.
The small group size enhances the experience, allowing for more relaxed interactions and personalized guidance. Plus, the pickup service means you don’t need to worry about logistics — just show up ready to enjoy.
The value at $90 per person seems fair considering the variety of activities, food, and tastings included. Many reviews praise both the quality of the food and the professionalism of the guides, emphasizing that you get a lot for what you pay.
Who Would Love This Experience?

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family (kids as young as 2 are allowed), you’ll find it approachable and engaging.
It's especially great if you appreciate small-group tours, being outdoors, and discovering authentic local flavors in a relaxed setting. Those seeking a more laid-back, scenic, and flavorful experience will likely walk away satisfied.
Final Thoughts

This horseback riding tour in Mazatlan’s Pacific Coast is a genuine opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and local culture of the region. We love how it blends scenic riding, delicious regional food, and mezcal tasting into one enjoyable outing. The knowledgeable guides, gentle horses, and beautiful setting make it suitable for a broad range of travelers, especially those craving a mix of adventure and relaxation.
The tour’s small size and pickup service add to its appeal, offering a personalized touch that larger excursions often lack. The included lunch and tasting are definite highlights — a chance to savor Mazatlan’s flavors while surrounded by stunning scenery.
On the downside, the three-hour duration might feel a tad long for some, especially if you're not used to active outings. Also, if you’re traveling with very young children, be sure to check the physical activity level and comfort with riding. But overall, it seems like a memorable way to spend part of your Mazatlan visit, offering both scenic views and authentic flavor.
