If you’re dreaming of a day on the water in Crete, a cruise to Balos Lagoon might just be what you need. We’ve looked into this particular sailing adventure, and it seems like a solid choice for travelers who want a mix of relaxation, stunning scenery, and a touch of luxury. While we haven’t taken it ourselves, the reviews and details paint a pretty inviting picture.
One thing we really like about this cruise is how comfortable the boat sounds — a large, modern sailing yacht designed to make your journey smooth and relaxing. Plus, the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters of Balos Lagoon and enjoy local snacks with unlimited drinks is quite appealing.
On the flip side, a consideration worth noting is that some reviews mention limited swimming time and occasional issues like rough seas or equipment hiccups, so it may not be ideal for everyone.
It was an absolute amazing evening sailing with this crew! Very professional and knowledgeable skipper and crew, Michalis and Giannis! The Balos experience, the sunset and the last hour sailing under the moonlight and the stars was the ultimate start of our holidays. Great vibe, great atmosphere, amazing hospitality and tour guide. The crew makes you feel part of their family, as we say in Greece! Ευχαριστούμε παρα πολυ για την μαγική βόλτα! Καλή αντάμωση! Τζίνα, Ξενια, Πωλινα και Ραούλ! 🤍
Amazing and unique experience with a lovely and caring crew. The time is perfect as well because Balos is already empty again at this time and you can enjoy this lovely lagoon in its natural beauty.
The guides have been super helpful, they waited for us as we were 15 minutes late because of the traffic. The boat ride was stunning, the sights are great, a bit rough on the sea so if you know you get sea sick, be really careful. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time swimming at the Lagoon, most time is spent on the boat. We also couldn’t swim in the sea because the boat latter was broken. If you want to use the. Peddle board, it’s tricky because there is lots of wind and they didn’t let us. The food and drinks were plenty and very good. Staff was very kind too
This experience is most suited for those who appreciate scenic sailing, enjoy water activities like snorkeling and paddleboarding, and want to catch a memorable sunset over the Greek coast. It’s also a good pick for travelers valuing good food and drinks combined with a relaxed, friendly crew. If you’re after a laid-back day with beautiful views and some quality time on the water, this cruise could be just right.

Very very lovely tour. Everything was easy, we were able to get transformation to the departure port even though we were an hour away, they arranged everything very easily by sending a taxi to us. Beautiful views, yummy snacks and wonderful boat crew. I want to give a huge shoutout to Tina – she is THE BEST!! She showed true Greek hospitality. More Great Tours NearbyPractical Aspects and Considerations

The cruise costs around $96 per person, which may seem reasonable given the included food, drinks, water activities, and scenic sailing. However, some travelers might feel that the limited swimming and water activity time doesn’t fully justify the cost if they’re eager for a longer beach stop. Also, the trip is about 4.5 hours long, with some flexibility depending on sunset timings.
The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off if you choose that option, which adds convenience. The group sizes seem manageable, and the crew is frequently praised for their helpfulness and friendliness, ensuring you feel well cared for throughout.
A few practical points: bring a towel, sunscreen, and your ID or passport (necessary for check-in). The tour isn't suitable for pregnant women, people with mobility issues, or those prone to seasickness, as some reviews have indicated.
