Exploring Huatulco by Yacht: Is This Private Cruise Right for You?
If you’re considering a day on the water in Huatulco, this private yacht cruise might catch your eye. It promises a day of sailing along the coast, with options to sunbathe, snorkel, and enjoy drinks while soaking in the stunning scenery. Whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic escape or a small group wanting a personalized adventure, this experience offers a lot to like.
What we particularly appreciate is the customization potential — you can tailor the itinerary to your preferences, choosing where to stop or what to focus on. Plus, the inclusion of complimentary beers and sodas adds a relaxed, festive touch. That said, there are some considerations to keep in mind: reviews mention a slow start and a boat that might not always match expectations, so managing those expectations is wise.
This was a wonderful tour. The yacht was very nice and well kept. Omar, the captain, and Carlos were outstanding. They adjusted the schedule to every request. We had two 3 year olds and they were great with the children and had appropriate sized life jackets for the children. We had one adult in a walking boot with crutches and Omar and Carlos made it easy for her. When we went to the beach for lunch, Omar arranged for her meal to be taken to her by a dingy to the yacht. I cannot recommend this tour enough. The views are spectacular and the snorkeling was very nice. You will not regret signing up for this activity.
De ervaring was aangenaam maar we begonnen pas met varen 45 minuten later, de service was goed en het varen was ook leuk.
This tour seems best suited for travelers who value scenic cruising, enjoy snorkeling, and want a flexible, intimate experience on the water. If you’re after a lively party boat or highly structured tour, this might not be the perfect fit. But if a chill day on the coast with personalized touches sounds appealing, it’s worth considering.

What You Can Expect from a Day on the Yacht

Let’s walk through what a typical day might look like. From the moment you’re picked up from your hotel in La Crucecita, the anticipation builds for a luxurious day on the water. The transfer is straightforward — a driver in a blue shirt with the Paraiso Huatulco logo will arrive promptly, aiming to get you to the boat on time. You’ll be sailing in a private yacht suitable for up to 11 guests, which makes this a very personal experience.
Once onboard, the yacht’s captain will start guiding you along Huatulco’s coast, where you’ll have sweeping views of white sandy beaches and secluded bays. This part of the trip is especially delightful for snapping pictures or simply soaking in the scenery. Keep an eye out for dolphins; some reviews mention spotting these playful creatures during the cruise, which really adds to the magic of the day.

The Bay Stops — Your Choice
The tour covers several iconic bays like Santa Cruz, Organo, Maguey, Cacaluta, and Chachacual. Of course, you’ll have the chance to stop at a bay of your choosing for a relaxing walk or swim. Whether you want to paddle in the clear waters, lounge on the beach, or explore the shoreline, these stops are the highlight for many. You might also find local seafood restaurants nearby, where you can sample traditional dishes, although food at the stops isn’t included in the base price.
Sunbathing & Snorkeling
Most guests love the chance to sunbathe on deck, with plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the sun. The boat comes stocked with 24 bottles of beer, sodas, and water, so you’ll stay refreshed throughout the day. Snorkeling is another popular activity, with some spots offering calmer waters and vibrant marine life. However, some reviews note that certain snorkeling locations can get crowded or busy with larger boats, which might detract from the experience a bit.
Customization & Flexibility
The standout feature of this tour is its flexibility. Unlike rigid group tours, you have the ability to tailor your day — whether that means spending more time at a particular bay or skipping a stop altogether. The captain and crew are there to accommodate your interests, whether you want a slow, relaxing day or a more active adventure.
Estuvo genial el paseo solo faltó más comunicación de los lugares que se hiba a visitar faltaron algunos
It was a good experience overall although we found the cost for lunch unexpectedly high at about $700 MX pp. Some of the snorkeling spots were too busy with large party boats constantly ferrying people to and from the snorkeling area in smaller boats that we had to swim around. The smaller snorkeling area that did not have the large boats was much better. The water was a little rough and our ride appeared much better than it looked like people had in the smaller Panga boats.
excelente actividad y la tripulacion de lo mejor
The Value in the Price

At $746 for your group (up to 11 people), the price might seem high at first glance. But when you consider it covers a full 8-hour private experience, with an expert captain, all drinks, and hotel pickup and drop-off, it starts to make sense. For small groups, this can be a cost-effective way to enjoy a personalized day on the coast, especially since you have control over the itinerary.
That said, some reviews bring up the cost of additional items. For example, snorkeling gear costs about $12, and entering the Huatulco National Park is extra at $4 per person. Food and extra drinks are also not included, so if you plan to indulge in meals or additional beverages, factor those into your budget.

How Do Travelers Feel About the Cost?
Opinions vary. Some say the experience is worth the cost given the exclusivity and flexibility, especially if you’re traveling with a small group. Others feel it’s a bit pricey compared to other tours that might include more activities or meals. For those who value privacy and customization, it’s likely a worthwhile splurge.
The Experience: Highlights & Challenges

What Travelers Love
Many reviews highlight the knowledgeable crew and their attentiveness. One reviewer called the staff "very attentive, informative and enthusiastic," and appreciated the crew playing music on request. The scenic views of the bays, combined with dolphin sightings and snorkeling, make for a memorable day.
The comfort of a private yacht is also a big plus. It allows for a relaxed pace, plenty of sunbathing, and the freedom to spend as much time as you want in each location. The opportunity to stop at a beach for a stroll and enjoy fresh seafood nearby is a draw for many.
What Could Be Better
Some guests mention that the boat was not always what they expected — one person received a fishing boat instead of a yacht, and others reported slow sailing or delays. The initial start can sometimes be a bit sluggish, with one reviewer noting a 45-minute delay before setting sail. These are minor hiccups but worth keeping in mind if you’re on a tight schedule or expecting a certain level of luxury.
The snorkeling spots, while generally enjoyable, can sometimes be crowded with large party boats. Smaller, quieter areas tend to offer a more satisfying experience, so if snorkeling is a priority, you might want to discuss the best spots with the crew beforehand.
Who Will Love This Tour?

This private yacht experience is perfect for travelers who want a personalized, relaxed day on the water. It’s ideal if you prefer flexibility over a fixed itinerary and enjoy swimming and snorkeling in calmer waters. If you're traveling with a small group or a partner, it offers an intimate setting with plenty of space.
However, if you're expecting a luxury vessel or a party boat, you might find the boat’s setup more modest. Also, if your plan is to visit popular, crowded spots or you’re not interested in snorkeling or beach stops, this might not be the best fit.
Final Thoughts

The ability to tailor your stops, combined with the inclusion of drinks and a knowledgeable crew, makes it a solid choice for those who want an authentic coastal experience without the crowds. It’s especially suited for small groups who value privacy and personalized attention.
While there are a few hiccups reported, such as delays and vessel mismatches, overall, many find it to be a delightful way to enjoy Huatulco’s bays and beaches. The price reflects the private, customizable nature of the experience, making it a worthwhile splurge if you’re after a relaxed, scenic day on the water.
If you’re ready to enjoy a day of sunshine, sea views, and snorkeling in a flexible setting, this tour could be exactly what you need.
