Planning a trip to Lake Como and feeling overwhelmed by the countless villages, villas, and scenic spots? You’re not alone. This full-day guided tour offers a well-structured way to see the best of the lake without the hassle of planning every detail yourself. It’s perfect if you want to maximize your time, enjoy expert insight, and take in the region’s iconic beauty all in one go.
What we love about this experience is how it combines convenience with expert guidance—you get to skip the confusing logistics of navigating multiple boat and ferry rides, and instead focus on soaking up the views and stories from a guide. Plus, the small group size (max 8 people) means it’s more personal and less rushed than larger tours.
One thing to consider is that the tour involves some walking and boat rides, so a moderate level of physical activity is recommended.
Took the tour for (Naboo) the villa del balbianello during the off season so it was me and another person and the tour guide. Everything about the experience was magical and lived up to everything I hoped it was.(rainy) but quiet peaceful without trouble
Despite the rain in the early morning by afternoon it settled, this was such a beautiful and breathtaking experience. Highly recommend. I loved how we took our time at Villa Del Ballbianello and then got to explore on our own at Bellagio. Michele was an amazing tour guide. He was knowledgeable and kind. Would do any tour with him again.
This was a great way to have an overview of the lake, visit an amazing villa and beautiful gardens. It was a long day but very lovely and our guide was particularly informative and really knew the ins and outs and details of so many sites. Violeta was wonderful to spend the day with. She made a lunch reservation for our group at a lovely location in Bellagio that was not overwhelmed with tourists. I would highly recommend this tour.
If you’re eager to see the highlights in a single day, this tour offers a balanced mix of sightseeing, history, and picturesque moments—ideal for travelers with limited time or those who appreciate a guided experience.

Why Consider This Tour?
Lake Como is renowned for its stunning scenery and historic villas. But exploring it on your own can be tricky—public transport schedules, long queues at popular sites, and rushing to fit everything in. This tour aims to free you from those worries, letting a guide handle the logistics while you enjoy the scenery.
We appreciated how the tour starts in Como’s Piazza Cavour, where the guide gives a quick rundown of the area’s main sights. It’s a helpful intro, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the region. From there, you’ll hop onto a boat, giving you the chance to admire Lake Como’s signature landscape.
The views of villas along the shore are postcard-worthy, and the commentary from guides about who owns which villa makes the scenery even more engaging.
Violetta was phenomenal. The entire day was perfect. She was knowledgeable, personable, and genuine. We started the day in como and took the ferry to Varenna and she told us all about the lake on our journey. Once in varenna she made time for me grab a quick snack because I’m always hungry while she showed us all the top sites. She even showed us clips from movies that were filmed there. Next we took the ferry to Bellagio where we stopped for a wonderful lunch arranged by violetta. Next we took the ferry back to como. It was all around the perfect 1 day to spend in como!
What a beautiful place and the tour was fantastic! Our tour guide, Elena made the whole day smooth and simple. They navigated the many boats and walking paths seamlessly and kept in communication sharing interesting details about each location. Even when there was a mechanical issue with our final boat, they were able to pivot and get us all home safe and sound. We enjoyed the entire experience and were so thankful to have a knowledgeable tour guide to help us travel in this unique place!
We were extremely disappointed in this tour. Firstly, we were booked on the 13th of September but were texted the day before that because we were the only participants they would not run the tour (apparently it required 4 people). We were offered the Bellagio/Varenna tour on the following day and then subsequently the original Bellagio/Villa tour with 6 other people the next day which we accepted. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the tour we were told by Violetta that because of the wind we would only be offered either the Bellagio part of the tour or the Villa Balbianello tour. The consensus from the group was the tour to Bellagio. Violetta was very good as the guide and even managed to…
A standout part of the day is visiting Villa Balbianello, considered one of the most beautiful villas on the lake. The guide explains its 700-year history and points out filming locations for Star Wars and James Bond, which adds a fun touch for fans or history buffs alike.

Breaking Down the Itinerary

Stop 1: Piazza Cavour
Starting in the main square of Como, the guide provides a quick orientation—highlighting main sights, top activities, and practical tips. Reviewers have found this initial chat helpful, especially as a way to set expectations for the day. It’s a short 30-minute stop, but it’s a good way to gear up before heading into more immersive experiences.
Stop 2: Lake Como Boat Ride
The journey across the lake is one of the highlights. You’ll see the region’s diverse landscape, from pre-alpine to Mediterranean influences. The boat ride lasts around two hours, during which you’ll get a panoramic view of lakeside villages and historic villas like Villa d’Este and Villa Carlotta.
Travelers often mention how stunning the scenery is and how much they appreciated the guide pointing out notable properties. One reviewer said, “We loved the way our guide described the villas and their owners, making the scenery even more interesting.” The boat ride also offers excellent photo opportunities, especially from the deck.
We only had one day to see the highlights of Lake Como and this is the tour we booked and you should as well! The day was unusually windy so many smaller, private boats had cancelled their tours but because ours was through this well established group, we were able to get on the larger ferries and resume our tour. It's a must to see Lake Como on a boat, surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes and the charming, picturesque towns dotting its shores. Our guide, Violetta, provided fun historical as well as current facts about the towns as well as pointing out venues from famous scenes filmed at the different villas such as James Bond and Attack of the Clones. And Bellagio was so enchanting wi…
Violetta our tour guide was a wealth of information, she was fun and knew the history and pointed out all the important landmarks. It is spendy however and you do have to pay additional fee for the ferry and entrance into the Villa. Also LOTS of walking, but well worth the effort once you get to the Villa. We could have done without the rushed lunch in Bellagio, very overpriced bland sandwich. Overall, it was a great experience and a great way to see the sites, I would recommend it.
Our guide Violetta was great, providing info and assistance to all guests. On ferry ride, it was nice to experience the beauty of Lake Como and small towns. We hit the highlights in Bellagio and enjoyed the beauty of Villa Balbianello. Be prepared for a lot of walking to include uphill and steps, especially at Villa Balbianello if the boat from the ferry to the villa is not available.
Stop 3: Villa del Balbianello
This is the centerpiece of the tour and rightly so. The villa’s gardens and terraces are breathtaking, and the guide shares its 700-year history. The villa has been featured in Star Wars and Casino Royale, which adds a layer of fun for pop culture fans. Entrance fees aren’t included in the tour price, so plan for an additional cost if you want to explore inside.
Many reviews praise this stop, with one saying: “Villa del Balbianello exceeded my expectations—it’s simply gorgeous from every angle.” The guided visit is about two hours, giving you enough time to stroll through the gardens and enjoy the views.
Stop 4: Lenno Village
A short walk takes you through Lenno’s charming old town. This stop is more relaxed, giving you a chance to wander narrow streets, browse local shops, or enjoy a quick coffee. Reviewers note that it’s a lovely, authentic glimpse into lake life beyond the tourist hotspots.
Stop 5: Bellagio
Known as the “Pearl of Lake Como,” Bellagio is a must-see. The tour includes walking through its narrow streets, enjoying views from the promenade, and seeing the monument to JFK. The hour and a half here isn’t enough to fully explore, but it’s sufficient for capturing the essence of Bellagio’s beauty.
Overpriced for what it is. You can totally do this tour on your own and you won't be limited in time at the Villa and Bellagio. Cons: 1. Unable to reach the tour operator on Viator app/website. I had some questions before booking the tour, but alas there was noone to help me. The only way to get a hold of your operator was to actually book the tour (non refundable!) and contact them on WhatsApp. 2. Not all tour stops were covered. 3. To access Villa de Balbianello you need to take a good 30 minutes uphill hike, which was not advertised in the tour description. The tour guide's pace was quite fast and he was not waiting for anyone. Also, the proper footwear recommendation would have came in h…
The gardens were amazing. Walking along the lake shore, gelato, walking through Belagio town center, window shopping.
Excellent tour, Violetta is absolutely brilliant and knowledgeable. Villa del balbianello is absolutely stunning and a must see if you are visiting lake como, the tour is extremely well organised and also allows you to save time by skipping long Queues. Violetta also took the time to help us take some beautiful pictures and showed us all the best spots and celebrity villas. We would highly recommend this tour!
Stop 6: Basilica di San Giacomo
This historic church in Bellagio offers a peaceful stop. The guide explains its architecture and art, adding context to your visit. It’s a quick 20-minute look, but it’s meaningful if you’re interested in local architecture and religious art.
Stop 7: La Punta Spartivento
The tour wraps up at this panoramic viewpoint. Here, you get a spectacular vista of the lake, Alps, and surrounding villages like Menaggio and Varenna. Many reviews mention how worth it this stop is for photos and soaking in the scenery.
What’s Included and What’s Not

Included in the price are the live guide and tickets for boats and ferries (EUR 35 and EUR 14, respectively). Entrance to Villa Balbianello isn’t included, so keep in mind additional costs if you want to explore inside. Lunch isn’t covered, so you might want to bring snacks or plan to eat in Bellagio or Lenno.
While the tour is designed to be comprehensive, it’s quite a full day—about 8 hours—so packing comfortable shoes and being ready for some walking is a good idea. The group size is limited to 8 travelers, which reviewers say makes the experience more personalized and flexible.
We loved our tour with Violeta! She was extremely knowledgeable with the history of Como, was very responsive, and even gave great lunch recommendations. My husband and I noticed there are so many things to do and see in Lake Como and didn’t know where to start and this tour has helped us get around the different areas. Would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking to learn more about Bellagio & Villa Balbianello!
This was an excellent tour and our tour guide was very good. Our ferry was cancelled at the last minute and she got us to our destination regardless. Only negative was that we signed up for a small group tour and at the last minute they combined 2 groups and made us a much larger group. Not the tour guides fault but the tour company’s fault. I believe they should have advised us of the change. Otherwise, Would highly recommend it.
Great day on Lake Como! Violetta is an amazing guide. Genuinely friendly and fun. She goes out of her way to ensure you have a great experience. Highly recommend this tour if you only have 1 day to visit.
The Real Deal: What Travelers Say

Several mention how guides shared interesting tidbits and managed boat logistics smoothly, even when some boat cancellations occurred.
One traveler remarked, “Our guide Elena made the whole day smooth and simple,” emphasizing how helpful having someone manage details is, especially when coordinating between boat, ferry, and walking segments. Others appreciated the ability to skip long queues at Villa Balbianello thanks to the pre-arranged tickets.
There are some mixed reviews about the value—some find it pricey, especially considering the extra costs for entrance fees and ferries. But most agree that the experience is worth it if you want a curated, efficient way to see Lake Como’s highlights without the hassle.
Final Thoughts: Is This Tour Right for You?

If you’re looking for a well-organized, insightful day with easy transportation and a small group, this tour could be a great pick. It’s especially suited for travelers who want a rundown without the stress of planning logistics or dealing with large crowds. The guide’s knowledge and friendly approach help make the experience more enriching and memorable.
However, if you prefer to explore independently, are on a tight budget, or want more time at each site, you might find the extra costs and fixed schedule limiting. It’s also worth noting that the tour demands some walking and boat rides, so those with mobility issues should consider this.
