I would have liked to have a little more time on top of mountain. It felt a little rushed. Felt like I had to rush around to get in every thing. Would have liked to relax after all walking and enjoying a refreshment.
Abigail
Our guide (rose I believe) was fantastic, great knowledge of the area and always ensured we go the best seats and views! The experience was truly amazing. A little more time at the top would have been nice but still managed to squeeze in what I wanted to do. I left the group early to try out the toboggan on the way down and was given very thorough instructions for how to get back to the station which was fantastic! Would recommend to anyone
Diane
Our guide was knowledgeable and shared a lot about the nature we saw, the traditions and everyday life in the area.

What we really appreciate about this experience is how it combines different modes of transport—the boat, cogwheel train, and cable car—all in one seamless journey. Plus, the guides consistently earn praise for their knowledge and friendliness.

On the flip side, some reviews point out that the schedule can feel a bit rushed, especially at the mountain top, where more time would be ideal for relaxing or taking in the views at a slower pace.

This tour is best suited for travelers who enjoy scenic landscapes and want a taste of Swiss mountain life without dedicating an entire day. It’s also quite manageable for those with limited time, and the small group setting makes for a more intimate experience.

If you’re traveling with others who love nature, or simply want a beautiful snapshot of Switzerland’s iconic scenery, this could be a good fit.

Our guide, Leighton was fantastic! He shared a lot of information about the history of the country while also leading us on an awesome adventure! We would highly recommend this tour for people of all ages ! Don’t think twice about this small group experience!
Janet
Jonas was an excellent tour guide and very informative. It was nice it was a small group We thoroughly enjoyed the trip
Clark
We had an excellent tour with Gustavo. He was very well informed and quite entertaining! Very patient with the group also as there were a few older folks. Really can’t say enough good things about him and the way he guided our experience. The cog wheel train is amazing and while it was fairly foggy/cloudy today, as the clouds passed the views were breathtaking! It was raining heavily when we came back to town so we skipped the boat tour part. Unfortunately, I forgot to return the audio set when we left. I have sent a message that it can be picked up at the front desk of the National Hotel and I hope that reaches him!

The Experience: What You Can Expect

Lucerne: Mount Pilatus Peak Trip and Lake Lucerne Cruise - The Experience: What You Can Expect

This five-hour trip begins in Lucerne’s main train station, where your guide will meet you with a friendly demeanor and all the necessary gear—like a hikers backpack for those venturing further on the mountain. From there, you’ll hop onto a boat for about an hour and a half across Lake Lucerne, arguably the most relaxing part of the day.

The views along the water are captivating, with Bürgenstock, Rigi, and Pilatus mountains on the horizon, giving you prime photo opportunities.

The boat cruise is a gentle start, setting a tranquil tone before you switch to land-based exploration. As you arrive in Alpnachstad, the real adventure begins with the cogwheel train, which is often considered the highlight for many. This is the world’s steepest rack railway, ascending to 2,073 meters—an engineering marvel that’s been running since the late 19th century.

During the ascent, your guide will share stories about the region’s history, culture, and even some of the legends tied to Mount Pilatus, like the tales of dragons and Pontius Pilate’s supposed resting place.

Matthew
It was great! We really enjoyed our time both going up the mountain and touring the lake. Rose was friendly, full of information, and very accommodating.
Colin
Our guide Rose was excellent. Very knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend. I think overall the tour was a little expensive.
Douglas
What was best about the tour was the guide. I believe her name was Sasha, she also went by Rose. Her skills was above board. She loves talking and working with a group of people. She gave me an email at the end of the tour and wanted my evaluation but I lost the email. Please give her my regards, I have never had a better guide anywhere. She was caring and showed great knowledge. The main problem with the tour is that it rained all day, but she made it the best she could do.

Once at the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views that seem to stretch forever. Several options await you: relax at a summit restaurant, take a leisurely walk or hike to soak in the scenery at your own pace, or just stand on the viewing platform and marvel at the lakes and mountains below.

Many reviews mention the guides’ knowledge and how they help make sense of what you’re seeing, adding layers of context to the visual feast.

A key moment for a lot of travelers is the descent via the aerial cable car—an experience that’s been described as floating in a glass cabin with 360-degree views. Passing over mountain streams and pastures, you’ll get a fresh perspective on the landscape that’s hard to match.

As you glide down, the scenery, once again, changes with every turn, providing a different visual story with each passing moment.

The tour was great! Our guide Jonas was the best. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, adaptive, answered to all different questions. He made sure that everybody in the group felt comfortable. The weather at the day of our tour was not favorable. There was a cloud covered the top of the Mount Pilatus. However, we had a great experience and fun to get there and see the center and facility. The boat ride around beautiful lake Lucerne was also wonderful. I highly recommend this tour. I want to extend my thanks to Jonas for his understanding and help to my daughter with special needs.
Dara
Our tour guide Santiago was absolutely amazing. The views were great and I would absolutely recommend this.
Apryl
We had a wonderful day with Santi! Highly recommend this tour. Because it was April, we did not get to experience the Cogwheel Train, but it was still highly worth the time.

Back on the cable car, the approach to Lucerne is just as spectacular. The views of the lake and surrounding peaks as the town comes back into focus are a fitting end to a day packed with beauty.

It was a fabulous day and our guide. Michael was incredible. We would highly recommend this adventure.
Wayne
Michael was an excellent guide. He was friendly, energetic, and knowledgeable. As we approached each leg of the adventure he explained what to expect and how to proceed. He was also able to easily answer most questions group members had about the area. Was he responsible for the beautiful blue sky that greeted us as we broke through the clouds while on the inclined railway? We don't know for sure, but we are willing to give him credit for that too. It was a wonderful adventure made even better by Michael's expertise as a guide.
