We thought this was a good idea for something different to do in New York if you’ve been there a number of times already. The food on the tray was very good. It was cute to be able to sit at a little table on the bus and see the city from a different perspective. The only thing I would change is that the tea server did not come around often enough. Also, they could narrate a little more of what you’re seeing as you’re going along the streets. I know they have their standard things they point out, but there’s a lot more they could add to make it more interesting rather than to just point out a few buildings.

My reservation was never sent to Tea Around Town for our 1:30 trip. After some of us traveled from Philadelphia and Atlantic City we ended up having to contact their customer service and had to wait for the 5:00pm.

Nonetheless, if you’re someone who appreciates a leisurely way to see Manhattan’s highlights while enjoying a warm drink, this tour might just be your vibe.

This experience suits travelers who want a relaxed, social outing with a focus on comfort and charm. It’s also great for anyone who loves tea, wants to see iconic landmarks without rushing, or simply needs a break from more hectic sightseeing schedules.

The Concept: Combining Sightseeing & Comfort

The Mobile Tea Room is more than just a bus tour. It’s an experience that revolves around enjoying city views while indulging in high-quality teas and delectable snacks. For many, the real appeal lies in the novelty of being on a bright pink, stylish bus that offers a cozy, temperature-controlled environment.

Imagine gliding past New York’s skyline, sipping tea, and nibbling on treats, all without feeling pressed for time or overwhelmed by crowds.

The Itinerary Breakdown: What You’ll See and Experience

Starting from Midtown Manhattan at Bryant Park, the tour kicks off surrounded by the city’s bustling energy. The park’s central location makes it easy to access, and it’s a great spot to begin your relaxed adventure.

From there, the bus meanders past Grand Central Station, an architectural marvel with its Beaux-Arts charm and busy concourse. You’ll get a good look at this historic landmark while sipping your tea, which makes the moment feel special. The next stop is the Chrysler Building, with its striking Art Deco spire that exemplifies NYC’s architectural elegance.

I was surprised that hot tea is not available. Only cold flavored tea is served in a plastic tumbler. The finger sandwiches were OK and the scones were tiny. The best part was the fun with my friends. I felt like I got dressed up and wore a hat for nothing and did not enjoy it enough to go again. If you really want a great tea time select a tea-time someplace not on a bus. The tour itself was just OK. Better to do a tour of Midtown New York without the cold tea.

As you continue, the Empire State Building comes into view. This towering icon needs no introduction and offers a fantastic perspective from street level. Moving onward, you’ll pass St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a Gothic Revival masterpiece that’s both beautiful and historically significant.

Next up is Rockefeller Center, home to the famous ice skating rink and NBC Studios. Here, the guide’s narration can enhance your understanding of the city’s entertainment hub. Radio City Music Hall, with its Art Deco grandeur, is also visible, adding to the tour’s cultural richness.

The bus then circles around Columbus Circle, offering views of upscale shops and the famed fountains, before heading into the heart of Central Park at 59th Street. The park’s vibrant life and open spaces contrast nicely with the urban scenery.

Finally, the tour reaches the dazzling Times Square, with its bright lights and energetic vibe. After soaking in the sights, the bus returns to Bryant Park, leaving you conveniently located for further exploration or a relaxing afternoon.

What’s Included & How It Feels

The included treats elevate this experience. You get to taste up to three different teas—a lovely touch for tea enthusiasts—and enjoy three tiers of scones, along with a selection of sweets and savory bites. While some reviews note that the quality of snacks can vary, most agree they’re a nice addition to the relaxing ride.

The souvenir tumbler is a thoughtful keepsake, and many travelers appreciate the opportunity to learn about the city from engaging live commentary. The fully temperature-controlled bus ensures comfort regardless of weather, making it a good choice for chilly or hot days.
