Once again, another amazing tour by Naxos Cultural Tours, led by Labrina. She was quite passionate about her job and telling us about the wine, culture and sights around the town. We also got a chance to do an extra olive oil tasting, and once again, the lady who did the tasting was so passionate about the choices of olive oil that are made on the island. I would highly recommend this tour, and if you get Labrina, you would be so lucky.
Jennifer
Our guide not only covered mythology but some history of the town as well.

Our guide, Christos was very funny and was most engaging. His relaying of the myths had us all laughing. The wines we sampled were delicious and the walk through the old town, although steep at times, took us to amazing sites with spectacular views.

On the flip side, if mobility or strict schedules are a concern, the fact that it’s mainly a walking tour with some uphill parts could be a consideration.

This tour is ideal for travelers who enjoy history, mythology, scenic views, and a touch of local gastronomy. It’s not a full-on historical deep dive, but rather a relaxed, storytelling-focused experience that’s great for those wanting a taste of Naxos’ cultural soul without the rush.

Our guide was fantastic! Elleanna(?) was so knowledgeable about the town, mythology, & the wines. Having such a nice sized group (7 of us) made for a very casual and interactive tour. Highly recommend!!

This tour was the highlight of our time in Naxos. Ilyana was incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly, she provided a great tour and answered questions from the group perfectly. She also encouraged the group to mingle in our own “symposium” during the wine tasting which was good fun. They do not skimp on the wine measures and there is a lot to go around beautifully paired with local fruits and cheeses. Due to bad weather we couldn’t go to the temple of Apollo however they substituted this by bringing us to try local Citron which was appreciated as we didn’t feel we missed out on time on the tour. Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes myths, history, wine or idea…
Thomas
Maybe the sunset could last longer 😉 Really, it was a great tour.

The Viewpoint Overlooking Apollo’s Temple

The highlight of the walk is heading uphill toward the top of Naxos’ medieval town, where the Portara (the massive marble gate of the ancient Temple of Apollo) stands. This spot offers breathtaking views of the Aegean, especially at sunset. Imagine the sky painted in shades of pink and amber as Helios himself dips below the horizon—this is a picture-perfect moment.

Was a wonderful walking mythology tour. We loved the company of the other participants and the wine tasting in the castles cellar was the high light. Highly recommend this tour

This was a lovely tour. Our guide was very informative and even curated a personal guide for touring the rest of the island for us. I would highly recommend it! The wine and snacks were also great. I highly recommend this trip if you’re looking to learn and have fun!
Dave
We had a wonderful tour with our guide, Christos. He was very knowledgeable about Naxos and Greek mythology and was very entertaining. With healthy pours, the wine tasting was more like wine drinking, as Christos put it. The sommelier, Maria Daphne was very charming and knowledgeable. Over the wine, tasty snacks and palette cleansers the group had a fun symposium to discuss our favorite gods from Greek Mythology. Christos did a great job of making both mythology newbies and experts feel comfortable during the discussion. After finishing our walk through the castle, we ended the tour with a view of the sunset from the Temple of Apollo. Highly recommended!

This tour was such a pleasant surprise! I loved how intimate it was in a small group. Our tour guide was so friendly and welcoming and gave us an informative tour that encompassed the making of Naxos, Greek mythology stories and even finding out about their wine and cheese culture was so fun and something I normally wouldn’t do without the help of a local. Three wines, a shot and a platter along with a breezy walk through the city up to the temple of Apollo was such good value for money and such a beautiful sight.
