What an incredible experience for our family to see the manta rays up close. Monet & Brandon were great and made us feel very comfortable from the beginning. It was a small group and we never felt crowded or rushed. Monet stays in the water with you the whole time and the videos were amazing! Highly recommend Eco Ocean Tours and definitely try to do the offshore safari with them. That was the highlight of our whole trip!!

Thanks Monet and Brandon for being friendly and cooperative making our dive enjoyable. Brandon was amazing with piloting the zodiac making the ride to the dive site pleasant. Monet was amazing with the support and photography and explaining about mantas. There were only 12 people on the zodiac. We saw around 3 mantas in our 30 minutes in the water. We are not good swimmers but are comfortable with snorkeling in water using the life vest. However, they don’t provide life vest but rather waist floatation noodle which is more than enough for a comfortable and safe dive. PS: There were other tour operators at the same site who had noodles that looked not as good as the ones we had and also the…

Great captain and guide. Small group, clean boat, very knowledgeable, worked hard to get the most sightings we could

First, what really stands out are the stunning sunset views during the start of the tour, setting a picture-perfect scene for the evening. Also, the inclusion of free underwater videos of your manta encounters is a real bonus; it means you go home with a tangible memory of one of nature’s most peaceful spectacles.

On the flip side, one thing to keep in mind is that this experience is weather-dependent—if the skies are cloudy or the sea too rough, the schedule could be affected. While the small group size (max 12) enhances the personal vibe, it’s worth noting if you’re someone who prefers larger tours or a more energetic crowd.

This experience really suits travelers who appreciate gentle, awe-inspiring moments with marine wildlife, especially those comfortable in the water, regardless of skill level. Families with older kids or anyone who loves unique natural encounters will find this particularly rewarding.

Night Manta Ray Snorkel with Videos - An Honest Look at the Night Manta Ray Snorkel Experience

Planning a night snorkel with manta rays is a bit of a gamble weather-wise, but when conditions are right, it’s truly a magical experience. We loved the way the tour kicks off with a spectacular Kona sunset, giving you a chance to unwind and soak in the scenery before heading out into the night. Watching the sky change colors over the ocean is a calming way to set the tone for what’s to come.

Once aboard, the boat ride itself is comfortable and well-organized, with staff ready to fit you with all necessary gear—snorkel, wetsuit, and mask. The small group size really helps here, making it easier to connect with guides and ask questions, which adds to the overall comfort level.

What Makes this Tour Stand Out?

The main highlight is, of course, swimming alongside the manta rays. These enormous, graceful creatures are fascinating to watch, especially at night when they gather to feed on plankton attracted to the lightboard. Expect to spend about 40 minutes in the water, which is enough time to really observe their slow, elegant movements without feeling rushed.

Did the night manta ray tour and it was an absolute highlight of my trip! Monet and Brendan were great guides who made you feel very welcome. They were down to earth, knowledgeable and had a very respectful approach to their tour. They sent the videos before I even got back to my accomodation and the quality of those videos were unreal. My only regret was not booking the offshore safari tour, but I’ll just have to save it for next time. Mahalo for having me, until next time!

Was great!! Small group of fellow travellers. Nice guides. Saw a few mantas. Snorkeling was relatively easy (did it once before).

Really fascinating and exhilarating. I think you can simply sum it up as that. If you on't do what you want to know what you missed. Like life, don't let this pass you by.

Reviewers often mention how fascinating and exhilarating the encounter is. Roy_Y described it as “one of a kind,” noting the presence of what he called “acrobats”—a colorful way of highlighting how these rays seem to perform gentle, effortless maneuvers in the water.
