A long night but filled with such fun, positivity and enthusiasm. Great group. Lots of photos. Tasty home cooked food. Knowledgeable guide who gave us so much information – thank you Linda. Great confident driver who worked really well with Linda. And we saw the lights in about 4 or 5 different locations thanks to Linda’s persistence and excitement! We loved it!

We had a fantastic Northern Lights trip from Tromsø with Blue Puffin and would definitely recommend it, small group tour def worth the extra. Linda was our guide and Maciek our driver. Everything was really well organized, with clear and quick communication both before the trip and on the day. They told us exactly where to meet, what to bring, and even asked about food allergies in advance, which was great. The group was small (about 14 people) and we traveled in a comfortable minibus. We drove out toward the Finland border chasing the Northern Lights due to lot of clouds and ended up finding them in a beautiful, clear spot by a frozen river, surrounded by snow and trees where we got to eve…

Nature didn't help. We barely saw a glimpse of Northern light. The guide tried very hard to find a place for us to see it through his camera. We wished it was better but how can we win the nature.

However, a key thing to remember is that, like all Aurora tours, there’s no guaranteed sighting—nature can be unpredictable, and cloud cover can obscure the sky.

This tour is ideally suited for travelers who want a well-rounded, comfortable experience with a good shot at seeing the Aurora, especially if you’re not keen on risking cold, dark evenings with uncertain results.

It’s also great for those who appreciate extras like cozy campfires and tasty homemade meals. If you’re after a straightforward, reliable Northern Lights chase with guides, this could be a great pick.

Had the most wonderful time with Linda (our guide) who is very fluent in German and English. There was a REALLY low chance of catching the lights but Linda was experienced and we were so blessed to be able to watch the lights dance in the sky. This tour comes with warm soup and blueberry tea – super yummy. 10/10 recommend!

Awesome evening particularly having small group. Driver and guide lovely and very experienced. Having suits was great. Would recommend sock/hand warmers. Feet with 2 socks were a bit cold but warmed up in the bus. So pleased we had a clear evening and so only needed to drive an hr out of Tromso. Driving time depends on finding cloud free area.

Long long away from city centre but it let us enjoying a fantastic screen of Aurora full in the sky. Warm to hot soup and sweet hot drink protected us from cold low temperature (it was much important for us living in a place without snow). With experience & friendly tourist guide, our first night in Tromso became wonderful & memorial.

Getting Started in Tromsø

Your journey begins at the Scandic Ishavshotel, a central spot in Tromsø, making it easy to meet your guide and fellow travelers. From there, you’ll hop into a comfortable, air-conditioned mini bus that seats up to 18 people—small enough to keep it intimate but enough for a lively group. The tour is conducted in either German or English, so you can follow along with ease.

The Journey into the Arctic Wilderness

One of the highlights? The drive itself. We loved the way the guides take you away from the city’s light pollution, into the snowy stretches surrounding Tromsø. It’s a scenic ride, with many stops possible depending on weather conditions and Aurora forecasts.

The reviews show that flexibility and local knowledge are key in maximizing your chances to see the lights, with guides willing to go the extra mile—sometimes even into Finland—if that’s where the best viewing conditions are.

Warm Clothing and Comfort

The inclusion of warm winter overalls is a real plus, especially if you’re worried about the cold. You can focus on the sky without constantly battling chilly temperatures, which is a common concern among Aurora chasers. Some reviews mention that next time they’d add toe warmers, so pack some extra layers if you’re particularly sensitive to the cold.

The tour was amazing! Our Guide Linda and the driver Adam did a fantastic job. Linda knew the best places and we saw amazing northern lights. She took amazing pictures as well! For the cold we were provided with special overalls, which helped a lot. The minibus was very good and comfortable. Tour could not have been better and we loved it!
Haziati A
An amazing tour guide who truly went above and beyond — checking more than 10 meteorological maps on a night with only a 0–12% chance of aurora sightings, just to give us an unforgettable two hours of dancing Northern Lights. The tour itself was fantastic, with comfortable bus transport and a knowledgeable guide who shared not only insights about the Northern Lights, but also fascinating information about the Nordic countries. He even helped us capture beautiful photos to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Truly unforgettable.
Cynthia M
Amazing experience! As many other tours have gone, we had to drive all the way to Finland, but the bus was super comfortable and our guide and driver were the best! I highly recommend Blue Puffin!

The Aurora Hunt

While the lights’ appearance remains unpredictable, the tour’s focus on finding clear skies and remote locations means you’re set up for the best possible chance.

The guides are experienced and enthusiastic, with reviews highlighting how Linda, Victor, and others make the experience both fun and informative. They tell you about the science behind the Aurora, making it more engaging than just waiting in silence.

We did our tour on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025 with the amazing Joan, who did an excellent job finding the Northern Lights for us as well as being a fantastic, knowledgeable tour guide. We really appreciated all that he did and the countless photos he took of us as well. He also dropped us off at our hotel Skaret by Vander so that was greatly appreciated as well. Overall, a 5/5 experience. Will definitely come back to go again to Tromsø with this tour!

This was ok. Guides were knowledgable and did their best but I think the company should have cancelled given how cloudy it was. Overall, I would recommend checking the weather predictions yourself and waiting to book day of instead of booking weeks in advance
Elisabetta C
We had a low chance of success, but our guide was determined to find the lights for us, and he did! It can be cold out there, so be prepared.

Duration and Group Size

The tour lasts around 6 to 8 hours, giving enough time to chase the best conditions without feeling rushed. The small group size helps keep things personal and flexible—the guides can adapt the itinerary based on weather, ensuring you get the most out of your trip.

The feedback from others who’ve experienced this tour is overwhelmingly positive. Several mention how Linda and Victor go above and beyond as guides—sharing facts about the Aurora, making everyone feel comfortable, and taking lots of photos. One reviewer called it the “best tour in Tromsø,” thanks to the combination of stunning Aurora views, good company, and caring guides.

Considerations

The main thing to keep in mind is that Aurora viewing depends heavily on weather and solar activity. If clouds roll in or the sky remains overcast, the lights might be elusive. However, the guides’ flexibility—sometimes traveling into Finland—means your odds are maximized.

Fantastic guide. Saw the lights, great experience all around. Tour made everything easy and enjoyable.

We had a great time. Our tour guide Linda was super friendly, knowledgeable, and did her best to find the northern lights for us. It was a cloudy night so unfortunately, we were not able to see them but Linda stopped at so many different spots to see if anything was visible. We even drove into Finland to try and get a glimpse of something. Shout out to our driver Adam. Linda seems to really love her job and it shows. Even though we were unable to see the lights, she made our trip interesting and fun. The bonfire and treats we had were great. It was something I never thought I would do, be out in the middle of nowhere in the snow, eating soup and talking with strangers. I cannot recommend thi…

This trip is excellent. Dont hesitate to book this. They are professional, on time, knowledgeable and make this an unforgettable experience. We traveled and found the perfect spot to see the lights dance for us. The pictures that were captured are the highlight of our trip.

Also, if you’re sensitive to cold, bringing extra layers or toe warmers is advised since, despite the thermal suits, prolonged outside time can get chilly.
