When it comes to scenic escapes from Porto, few experiences deliver quite like a well-rounded day in Gerês National Park. While I haven’t personally taken this exact tour, the reviews and details paint a vivid picture of what such an adventure entails — and honestly, it sounds like a real treat for nature lovers and those craving a taste of authentic Portugal.

What really caught our attention are the small group size and expert guide, which mean you’ll get personalized attention and insights into the area’s hidden gems. Plus, the chance to swim in crystal-clear lagoons and enjoy a homemade picnic set the scene for a memorable day.

One downside to keep in mind is the duration of around nine hours, which is quite full-on and might be tiring for some. Still, if you’re someone who loves a mix of activity and relaxation, this tour seems well-suited. It’s especially appealing for travelers who want a genuine local experience, combining outdoor adventure with cultural insights.

Had a fantastic experience with Ruben today, he was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of insight about Geres and the nearby village. We were well fed and were supplied with plenty drinking water. The hike itself was great and went at a steady pace, even in the heat! The lagoons were obviously the star of the show and it was good that we got plenty free time to soak it up and relax. Would definitely recommend!

It was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys nature and physical activity. The guide was very nice, funny and helpful – he created a positive atmosphere. The whole experience was well planned and everything went at a pleasant pace. It was not boring, but there was also time for everything. There are cool views along the way. Swimming was the highlight for me! 🙂 We also got a delicious lunch and one of the best Pastel de nata for breakfast I have tried!

If you’re after a day where you can stretch your legs, breathe fresh mountain air, and indulge in great food, this tour could be just what you need. It’s perfect for those who want a taste of Portugal’s rugged natural beauty without the hassle of planning every detail.

We had such an amazing day with Ruben (apologies if the name is spelt wrong). He made our day enjoyable and gave us a lot of insight into Porto and about the area whilst on our hike. The packed lunch was perfect and as a non-hiker, I didn’t find the hike too difficult, and the swim in the lagoons made it all worth it. Would highly recommend!
GINA
Excellent activity. The hike was beautiful and not too difficult. We only wore runners and didn’t have hiking poles and it was fine. The pools were gorgeous and the water was very cold because it has rained the day before but once you were in it was great. Highly recommend this tour and having a guide took all the stress away – knowing we wouldn’t get lost and showing us the best spots.

Rubén was great. He was funny, prepared hand made lunch to each and every one of us, water bottles for all. Had a nice little surprise personal touch at the end of the hike. He knows the trail well, friendly and well organized.

The Real Value of This Experience

Porto: swimming, hiking, picnic in Gerês National Park - The Real Value of This Experience

Now, let's talk about the cost — around $85 per person for a full-day adventure. That includes transportation, a guide, all the food, water, and even photography services. Considering the quality of the experiences — from scenic hikes to a well-curated picnic — it offers good value. The small group size (limited to 8 participants) also ensures you'll get attention and plenty of room for questions and photos.

Why This Tour Stands Out

The knowledgeable guides are often praised for their friendliness and awareness of local secrets, which elevates the experience beyond just a walk in the park. Plus, the opportunity to swim in lagoons and waterfalls is a highlight for many, offering a chance to cool off in pristine waters that feel miles away from city life.

Potential Drawbacks

The main consideration is the length of the day — nine hours can be tiring, especially if you’re not used to long outdoor activities. Also, the hikes are relatively short, but if you’re looking for a more intense trek or multi-day adventure, this might not be enough.

Lastly, while the tour is family-friendly in terms of ease, younger children should be supervised around water and uneven terrains, especially during swimming and hiking.
