If you’re considering visiting Slovenia’s famous Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle, this tour might just be the most convenient way to do it. While we haven’t personally taken this exact trip, the reviews and details paint a pretty appealing picture for travelers looking for a well-organized, informative experience that packs a lot into a half-day.
What really draws us to this tour are two standout features: the small-group setting, which promises a more intimate experience, and the hotel pickup and drop-off, saving you the hassle of navigating public transport or waiting for large bus groups. Plus, the guide’s knowledge seems to shine through in the reviews, adding a layer of genuine insight to the visit.
However, one thing to keep in mind is the entrance fee not included in the price—it’s an extra €44 per person. That’s something to budget for, but considering the convenience and guided insight, it’s a reasonable addition. This tour would suit anyone eager to see these iconic sites without the fuss of planning every detail themselves, especially those who value a guided experience with a small, friendly group.
Very good experience. Our driver and guide (Nate) was very knowledgeable and funny. He talked us through the fun facts in his own entertaining way throughout the ride to the venue. He also engaged small talk with us which was very much appreciated. The Castle built on the Cave was very special. You need to see it for yourself! The Cave inside is breathtaking, I couldn't stop spamming photos inside. To enter, I also sat a roller coster style train inside to the main chambers which was very cool. The English guide spoke clearly, sharing interesting information. Lastly, the tickets to the Cave and Castle were well discounted for myself as a student. 100% would recommend!
Amazing trip. The castle and then the caves. Due to foggy weather conditions in Ljubljana i thought that it wouldn't be worth going. Out further the weather changed we were able to see the scenery, then onto the castle where we walked round. From there onto the caves. This was all made very spectacular by our super guide Nate. He was very informative. Telling us the history and the dates of what had occurred in the past. I would highly recommend it.
We had an excellent experience on our Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle tour with our English speaking guide, Jerry. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and well organised, sharing fascinating insights that brought both sites to life. Jerry’s warm personality and professionalism made the entire day smooth, enjoyable, and memorable. Highly recommended

The Itinerary: What You’ll Experience
Postojna Cave: A Journey Into the Ancient Underground
The first stop, Postojna Cave, is a natural wonder that’s been welcoming visitors for over 200 years. With nearly 38 million visitors since its opening, this site has a well-earned reputation as a must-see in Slovenia. The cave’s formation involved the Pivka River carving its way through limestone, creating an extensive network of tunnels, halls, and passages.
Inside, you’ll find an array of spectacular stalactites and stalagmites, stalactite curtains, petrified waterfalls, and even cave pearls—natural sculptures that have formed over millennia. One of the most fascinating creatures here is the “human fish” or proteus, a blind amphibian perfectly adapted to thrive in total darkness.
As the tour is guided, you’ll learn about the cave’s geology, formation, and unique features. The cave’s interior is large enough to be impressive but manageable in a two-hour visit, allowing plenty of time to absorb the sights without feeling rushed. Keep in mind, admission to the cave is not included in the tour price, so you’ll need to purchase tickets (€44) on the spot or through your booking.
Reviewers like Liesl_H praised the experience, calling it “an absolute must-do,” emphasizing the small group and how well the guide knew his way around. It’s clear many appreciate the combination of natural beauty and the personal touch that comes with a guided tour.
Predjama Castle: A Medieval Fortress Clinging to the Cliff
The second highlight, Predjama Castle, is a jaw-dropping sight perched on a dramatic cliffside. This 16th-century castle has a fascinating story and architectural charm that makes it a favorite among visitors. Its position makes it look as if it’s defying gravity, and exploring the castle offers a glimpse into medieval life and defensive ingenuity.
This tour was not completely what I expected. Our driver, David, was very knowledgeable and imparted some great information about Slovenia and the region we were headed to. But I didn't realize he was not our tour guide for the two places we visited. For the Predjama castle we were given audio guides which I tend to not use (preferring having an actual guide with me), but which did impart some interesting tidbits about the various rooms & items within the castle. And while I do like having an in person guide, having an audio guide instead did give us the freedom to spend as much or as little time in each section of the castle as we wanted, take time for various photo ops, etc. For the Pos…
This is an absolute must do when you visit ljubljana. The group is nice and small and the guide knows his his way around
Great day at the castle and the caves. Well organised, informative and fun. David was an excellent tour guide, and looked after us. 10/10 would highly recommend to anyone visiting Slovenia.
A self-guided audio tour is available, providing detailed insights into the castle’s history, architecture, and legends. You can wander at your own pace, soaking in the views and learning about the castle’s role in local lore.
Nikita_B mentioned that the castle and caves are both worth a visit, especially praising the guide’s friendliness and knowledge. Although the time at Predjama is about an hour and a half, some reviews suggest that, on busy days, a little more time would be appreciated, especially if you’re a history buff or want to take photos.
The Benefits of This Small-Group Tour
Traveling in a group no larger than eight means you'll likely get more personalized attention and the chance to ask questions. The guide’s commentary seems to be a highlight of this experience, with reviews mentioning helpful, friendly, and humorous guides like Nate and David.
Having hotel pickup and drop-off included simplifies your day. Instead of hunting down bus stops or navigating public transit, you’ll be comfortably transported in an air-conditioned minivan, which is especially nice during warm months or if you’re arriving from a central Ljubljana hotel.
The Price and Value
At $85.38 per person, this tour appears to offer solid value. For that, you get transportation, guided tours at both sites, and the convenience of door-to-door service. The discount on tickets (10%) through the agency adds to the savings, though the entrance fee (€44) is paid separately.
Some travelers might find the cost slightly higher than buying tickets independently, but for the peace of mind, guide insights, and ease of logistics, many find it worthwhile. Plus, reviews like Bayan_J’s describe the entire day as “well organized, informative and fun,” which suggests the experience lives up to the price.
Who Is This Tour Best For?
If you’re someone who appreciates a guided experience, values small group size for comfort and personalized attention, and prefers not to worry about logistics, this tour is a great fit. It’s especially suitable for those who want to see both Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle in a single morning or afternoon, making the most of a limited time in Slovenia.
While not specifically tailored for families with very young children or those with mobility issues—since the cave and castle involve walking and exploring—most travelers in decent shape should find it manageable.
