Exploring the Private Astronomical Tour: Sunset, Astrophotography, Stars, and Dinner
If you’re dreaming of a night under the stars paired with a taste of local Canary Island cuisine, this private astronomical tour on Mount Teide could be just what you’re looking for. Designed for up to 20 guests, this six-hour experience promises a mix of stunning sunset views, guided star gazing with telescopes, and a delicious Canarian dinner—all in the heart of Teide National Park.
What immediately appeals to us are the professional telescopes used for star observation and the chance to improve your astrophotography skills, capturing images like the famous Andromeda Galaxy. Plus, the inclusion of a typical Canarian dinner adds a warm, local touch that transforms a simple stargazing outing into a full cultural experience.
The guide ( Pietro) is very nice and knows a lot of nice spots to visit. We never saw so much star in the sky. This is for sure one of a kind experience that everybody in Tenerifa should do. The transport was also compfy! Thanks to Pietro, Rata and Rush for the wonderful experience!
Our guide, Pietro, collected us from our hotel in Costa Adeje before we began our ascent into Teide national park. There were 5 of us on the tour in total making for an intimate experience. Our first stop above the clouds was spectacular, we made another stop just below mount Teide before settling elsewhere to watch the sunset. Pietro new all the best spots away from tourists and shared information about the island and volcanic history. The stargazing was a lovely experience with the opportunity to see the stars, Saturn and Jupiter with professional telescopes. Pietro had tea, biscuits and blankets to keep us comfortable- sunglasses and warm clothes are a must though! We finished our evening…
Looking up at the brilliant starry sky, we not only see amazing stars and the vast ocean, but also capture the fascinating figures of Saturn and Jupiter. Every delicious dish enjoyed during the journey was unforgettable, adding a unique flavor to our journey of exploration. Everyone used their lenses to capture this magnificent starry sky, leaving behind many amazing photographic works. This journey is full of surprises and wonderful moments
However, it’s worth noting that weather can sometimes affect the star sightings, which might be frustrating if you’re eager to see the sky in all its glory. Still, the organizers ensure you’ll enjoy the sunset, dinner, and visit to Pino Gordo even if the stars don’t cooperate—so no matter what, it’s a well-rounded evening.
This tour suits travelers who love nature, astronomy, or simply want a memorable, high-quality evening with expert guidance. It’s especially good if you prefer small groups for a more personal vibe, and if you’re comfortable with some chill outdoor conditions.

What We Love About This Experience
This tour offers a fantastic blend of natural beauty, culture, and science—a combo that can really elevate your Tenerife trip. The guides are praised for their knowledge and friendliness, sharing fun facts, legends, and insights about the landscape and the stars, which makes the whole journey engaging and accessible.
The sunset view from the mountain is often described as spectacular, with one reviewer calling it “one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Canary Islands.” Watching the sky change colors as you sip local wine or an aperitif really sets a magical tone for the evening. Plus, the visit to the monumental Pino Gordo adds a touch of nature’s grandeur that’s worth the short detour.
The star gazing part, especially with professional telescopes, is a real highlight. These aren’t just average binoculars—guides help you identify nebulas, star clusters, planets, and even the Milky Way with clarity. One reviewer loved that they could take home a photo of the Andromeda Galaxy—a souvenir that’s more meaningful than a typical tourist shot.
And let’s talk about the food—the Canarian dinner is described as authentic and hearty, creating a cozy atmosphere that complements the outdoor experience. Several reviews mention the value for money, saying the meal alone was worth the trip.
There is a great benefit to a small group tour. We saw a brilliant sunset and later the stars and planets through a telescope. Unlike some other tours we saw this on flat land. Later the food and drink at the restaurant was very generous.
the food at the restaurant after was great . But Astronomy could of been a bit better and was very very cold
A fantastic trip from start to finish. Our guide picked us up from our hotel and took us first for a lovely meal at a very nice restaurant. Then we were whisked up the mountain, through the clouds, to watch the sun set. There was a bit of a wait between the sun setting and the stars coming out but we were provided with drinks and snacks. Then the main event, the stars came out and we were shown a whole bunch of different astrological things, with the naked eye and through telescopes, including nebulas, star clusters, the milkyway and even Saturn. We were then taken back to our hotel. The trip exceeded our expectations.

Sunset Experience
Next, you’ll head to a panoramic vantage point to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets in the Canary Islands. A toast and aperitif accompany this moment, making it great for photos and just soaking in the view. The changing colors of the sky, with Mount Teide silhouette in the background, create an unforgettable scene.
Night Sky Observation
Once darkness falls, the real magic begins. The guides set up professional telescopes for nighttime star gazing. You’ll explore stars, planets, galaxies, and star clusters, guided by knowledgeable experts. Many have described this as a remarkably clear and detailed experience—especially with the telescopes' help.
A highlight for many is the opportunity to capture astrophotos. The guides assist with live astrophotography, including the chance to take a picture of the Andromeda Galaxy, which you can keep as a special souvenir.
While the sky weather can sometimes be cloudy or unpredictable, the tour is flexible. If stars aren’t visible, you still enjoy the sunset, dinner, and visit to Pino Gordo, making the evening worthwhile regardless.
Return and Drop-Off
After the star gazing, you'll return to your hotel, often feeling like you’ve experienced something rare—something that combines natural beauty, celestial wonder, and local culture.
Transport, Group Size, and Overall Value
The small group size (up to 20 guests) helps create a more personalized experience, avoiding the crowds of larger tours. The transportation is comfortable and reliable, with guides sharing interesting commentary along the way.
Pricing is generally considered fair when you factor in the meal, transportation, expert guides, telescopes, and astrophotography. Several reviews mentioned that the value for money was excellent, especially considering the memorable sunset and star views.
Weather and Flexibility
A key point to keep in mind is Tenerife’s microclimates—cloud cover can sometimes obstruct the star sightings. The organizers are transparent about this, noting that if the sky isn’t clear, the trip still proceeds with the dinner, sunset, and visit to Pino Gordo. If stars are missed, a free reschedule might be offered, but no refund is given if the skies stay cloudy.
This flexibility is reassuring, especially if you’re visiting during seasons known for variable weather. Pack warm clothing, hat, long sleeves, and closed shoes, as mountain temperatures can be chilly even in summer.
Who Should Consider This Tour?
If you’re a nature lover, astronomy enthusiast, or just someone looking for a unique evening experience with beautiful visuals and good food, this tour is a strong choice. Plus, the small group size and guides make it suitable for travelers who want an informative, personalized outing.
It's not ideal if you're uncomfortable with cold weather or if you need absolute certainty of star visibility—though the overall experience is still rewarding even without perfect skies.
